Welp, that was something. The AOS part was kino, but they should have just fucked off with the decay part. Really, a mission pack was all you had to show? Then they just announce 2 codexs? My favorite part is that when they were talking about the dark eldar codex, they just go in and cope talking about how the old models are based and amazing. Oh but I guess its okay, it showed that a single eldar unit arent a complete joke anymore! That totally makes up for 4 years of primaris.

You know its fucked when they spend almost the same amount of time talking about an ent for the fucking LOTR as they do the 40k segment of their show. Im also guessing next week will be dry, since thats usually the case after one of these.

My biggest question is why this even had to be a preview "event".

They also announced a new Vigilis-style campaign series. "War Zone Charadon."

Which will have updates for Death Guard, AdMech, Imperial Knights, and Dark Eldar.

Wasn't aware DG needed an update already, but whatever. Wondering if Imperial Knights will get something new. An Armiger Moirax 40k release in plastic would be nice.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable 9th edition Chaos Space Marine Codex at this point (maybe a Black Templar supplement).

Well I mean fuck bud, the DG codex comes out in a few weeks, and dark eldar get theirs in early 2021, so why the fuck aren't they in there? Why are factions getting """updates""" and not codexes when the 8th ed codexes were supposed to be kept in mind.

I'm thinking positively about this in that were getting a campaign book that doesn't involve Space Marines. At least no loyalist/Primaris ones.

The 8th Ed codex’s were kept in mind as a found memory before being thrown to the curb by the index they placed on the website.

Glad I didn’t watch the previews since I obviously haven’t missed much.

I really just wish they said this was another Fantasy oriented event so I could have just done something else. I mean I didn't have to watch this stream to find out they are making codexes out of date before they even come out. That could have been like a Tuesday community article. Really this just makes me want to start a AoS army rather then start the Dark Eldar army I've always flirted with.

Hell, I'm probably gonna start an Idoneth Deepkin army sometime soon. I like their aesthetic and fluff and it sounds like they got a pretty decent update in that new Broken Realms book.

So I want to start building an Army but I dont want to drop hundreds of dollars on a starter pack. Anyone got some advice? Is there a second hand market? Or should I just resign myself to selling a kidney in order to get into this game.

I also kinda wanted to do sororitias as my army, but fuck me the models are absolutely hideous. GW clearly hates women. Option 2 would either be Blood Angel's or Craftworld Eldar.

First, what army are you trying to build?
If you want to talk Blood Angels, @Love_Machine011 will give you pointers.
As for Craftworld Eldar, I'm sure we have someone here who is an Eldar player who can give you an idea.
As for Sisters, yeah the faces on the models are shit.

For the question about second hand market, Ebay is usually a place to check but there are other online stores.

eBay for second hand stuff but quality of build will vary a lot.

As for starting an army there are plenty third party companies who do alternate heads for Sisters just buy those.

Edit: I believe I’ve mentioned earlier in the thread about Fantasy Flight constantly losing game licensing well its happened again

They lost the Star Wars games! These things are basically their bread and butter at this point. I can see Asmodee sunsetting FFG in the near future.

Look into "Kill Team" and whatever the equivalent for AoS is, if that's your thing. Easiest way to get started.

2 other options for second hand models would be your local game store & conventions. Game shops sometimes give store credit for models that they then resell at lower prices, and Cons will usually have a flea market/trade area where you can find great bargains. Your local pandemic situation may have these shut down, so ebay & forums with trade sections are your best option right now.

China has recasters that sell at 33-50% of retail, but you order at your own risk. The quality can be subpar and parts may be incorrect. i.e. 2 left legs but no right leg. These guys are breaking copyright laws so when GW finds them they get shut down pretty quick, which could leave you without your money & product.

These will probably end up being a good deal by Warhammer standards. Probably 150-170 ish. Do any of these strike your fancy?

Did anyone notice the Jakkob Bugmansson toon on the GW site logo? *yawn*

First, figure out what you want. Look up the rules for the army by going on the The Trove or /tg/. Read their lore and write up what you want your army to be, both in terms of fluff and points values.

Second, for whatever army, buy an HQ character and a Troops unit. That way you can make a patrol detachment and utilize all of the strategems and artifacts in your army. The other value of buying the Troops unit is that you can use it to create additional characters. For instance, buy a tacitcal unit and only use five of the models for your troops. You then have the parts for the five other models to create characters. For marines that could be your captain, company champion, ancient, etc. For Sisters: canoness, paladin, imaginifer. For Eldar: farseer, autarch, warlock.

Of course it may be helpful to have another unit that you can use for bitz, which again depend on the army, but I have used this method on my own sisters and I have not needed to buy any character model except the hospitaller.

Also, if you are going for sisters, I'd recommend picking up the flagellants kit. Not only is it a good replacement for the arco-flagellants unit but they can also be great for preachers/missionaries and contain alot of religious themed bitz.

The cheapest way if you're not picky is to split a starter box or two with some one. If you want Necron or Space Marines and can find someone interested in the same, splitting two Elite editions for 100 bucks each, or an elite and a recruit for $75 will get you a decent pile of troops, two HQs(though some modification may be required with double elite). Of the top of my head for the elite recruit split that would be:

  • Necron (over?)lord
  • Royal Warden
  • 3 Skorpehk Destroyers
  • 20 Warriors
  • 6 Scarab Swarms
  • Plasmacyte
Or

  • Bladeguard Captain
  • Bladeguard Lt.
  • 10 assault intercessors
  • 3 Outriders
At 75 dollars those are both more than half of the cost of getting those units separate is your okay with a swarmy Necron or melee Astartes list.

If you can find it, an Indomitus box can be an even better split than double elite at $100. They're spotted in stores, mine had 6 but all that's printed has been, so if you can't find it now you won't. They give you a similar pile of units with more HQs, and units of lessor (reanimator) or better (OP Eradicators) usefulness. There is also a limited edition rule book that you can offer to pay more of the split to get for cheap (a $120/$80 split seems fair to me) to save you a $50 book purchase and make it easier to convince someone to buy the half you don't want.
