I'd usually disagree but I think his latest TTS videos is as dry as a sand dune.
Yeah, I think he's suffering from TFS syndrome. What was once a series of skits which explained the lore in a humorous fashion is now just "The Gathering Storm: Abridged." He's taken the series a too seriously. And much like TFS, he has a fan base which will just consume it and laugh because it used to be a great series. (And even then his jokes were a little hit or miss, but that's just me.)

Which of the primarch books are worth getting, and do I need to be caught up in the HH books to read any of them? I stopped reading after Pharos, for no particular reason, and haven't started back up. I did read everything up to Pharos.
I've read Guilliman, Magnus, and Perturabo's books. All three were set during the great crusade and had no heresy spoilers. You do get some hints and foreshadowing. I have the Russ and Fulgrim books on back log but I don't know their time.

I enjoyed all three but YMMV.

Im speaking as a person who used to be part of his old fan group where we just shitposted and played Dawn Of War 1+2 and TF2 all day. He basically disbanded it since he grew tired of the memes we made about the Alfa Legion and felt they weren't funny anymore. I kinda grew a little miffed as the years went by with TTS since frankly those memes were just as annoying and are way more popular than what our little shitposting group did. Its kinda autistic but the episode of TTS where I grew to not like anymore was episode 26 where it was a confirmation of him killing off the Alfa Legion entirely with the entire end bit of Magnus killing off all the members.

Damn. I knew he kinda through it out the window, but I always assumed it was just because he got to busy with TTS to really put any effort into it, and so it just kinda broke apart. I didn't know he just nuked the thing cause he found more popular shit. Did he ever have/mention a desire to go big/mainstream? Asking because I feel like that's what he wants. I think he saw how fucking massive something like DBZA got, saw that normie jokes did well, and so quietly murked his older, more lore based humor, and went for something "the public" could appreciate. Exhibit A, turning the Harlequins from Eldar who understand why the Eldar fell and are more eccentric guardians of history and knowlage, to just "haha internet humor BAZINGA". I get that everything in TTS is overly satirized, but even the Custodes were still kinda accurate depictions in spite of the JoJokes.

Definitive proof dat orkz iz best, are the other factions even trying?

Of the ones I've read, Perturabo, Angron, Guilliman, the Lion, and Magnus were the ones I liked best. None of them are really connected to the HH series in any substantive way.

Their new model trailor literally only shows 1 mechanicus dude we have seen since the start of 9th, and a fucking 'nother titan for titanicus.

After several weeks of on and off painting when time permits I finally got my Chaplain entirely base coated

Having watched the “reveals” video the Slaanesh guy looks pretty cool.

Well I mean it's all been hedonites. Will another month if hedonites start making AOS players go crazy? They got the luminenth out the door quicker.
Well COVID has fucked up GW's release schedule as Death Guard was supposed to have been released in December. Not to mention that Slaanesh is the last to get their mortal devotees range and I'm glad they get the full range unlike Luminenth who have their Tyrion side missing along with their other elemental-focused units.

Though from the newest video, I'm most intrigued by the model with the vampire hunting stakes and the model with the ruined axe and green skin. At first I thought that green skin model was an orc, but it was too human-shaped. Maybe its a zombie faction character?

Nice brushwork! What chapter are you painting it up as?

A Dark Angels successor chapter called Blades of Vengeance because only the edgiest of names will do for my dudes. Despite being a primaris only chapter in the cannon I already had my first born marines painted in a similar scheme so it kind of works out.

His humour revolves around "hahahaha look funny meme" and "hahah look this character does this!" It gets old really quick.

TTS was never funny to begin with.

I watched his older episodes(and some more recent ones) and just found almost all of them to be the same overused and unfunny trash jokes recycled time and time and time and again.

I don't think you need to get caught up with the rest of the Horus Heresy to be able to read the Primarch novels in their full context. All of them I've read are usually self-contained/stand-alone stories.

I've had a generally stellar experience reading them, but David Guymer seems to have gone fucking spastic when writing the Lion's book (I'm still in the middle of it).

There are numerous instances in which I have to re-read a paragraph, multiple times, to understand what the fuck is actually being said. This one, for instance:

In addition to the guardian at the door and the guide four knights stood at the points of the compass rose detailed around the sarcophagus. Each was of a similar height and, girt in war-plate beneath their plain white robes, of similar build. None had come armed and all stood with crossed arms in identical fashion. The one point of disambiguation was a small thing, but as striking to the eyes of one attuned to subtlety as a rosary of coloured lights.
-Lion El'Jonson - Lord of the First (pg. 51)

There are multiple paragraphs like this in the book, and I actually had to get up off my fat ass and look into a dictionary to see what particular words mean. Girt, seriously? Guymer could have just fucking said clad, but he decided to go full-retard to the point that G.R.R.M. would tell him to tone it down.

You know, there isn’t anything that says that a chapter that starts as primaris only must stay primaris only. The primaris marines only have three additional organs and the only wargear difference is the boltgun type and the power armor, which probably would not be hard to acquire either from the battlefield or from another chapter.
