But anyway I think one of the big issues with the Guard was that so many of them were based off of real world armies. Or in the case of Catachans: Rambo. Copyright issues a plenty. Sadly though this probably led to the guard being more niche.
This is why any IG players should go printed. We have great DKoK, Elysian, Vahallan, Tanith, Cadians, maybe some steel legion, etc. GW doesn't give a shit about the Guard, so fuck em'

Victoria Miniatures, too, if you don't have a printer. She does pretty good work filling the Guard void.

Oh, yeah, there's quite a few great boutique options out there as well. My progression went GW > Recast > 3rd Party > Printed. If anyone just wants some pretty alright but very cheap Guard proxies, look at Raumjager and Grognards from Wargames Atlantic.

*Edit* Looks like they also got a production license for the Dreamforge Eisenkern troops too. Man, I had an absolute ton of Dreamforge stuff, it's a shame what happened to them. Also lol. Victoria used to be the expensive stuff. Now GW is charging almost as much :D

IG may be less popular since their infantry isn't as fun as orks, and you need way more overpriced plastic than lets say a Custodes or SM army. Also tanks aren't cheap either.

I got involved with Dawn of War 1 too. The idea that a teenager can afford tabletop 40k outside of the richest 1st world cities is kind of silly. Maybe in the Rogue trader era where models were relatively cheaper and battles smaller, but definately not in the last 15 years.

I feel a little conflicted on the TTS stuff. On one hand, I don't like TTS and it's tard fans that think this stupid fanfiction should be canon. On other hand, GW going around tearing posters off the wall is just dumb and shitty. Regardless of the legality of any of it, its just petty.

Well, good news for you then about TTS: THAT IS NOT FUCKING CANON. That said, I miss the very early stuff when it was just the Emperor alternating between reeeing and sobbing at what the High Lords had done to his precious Imperium and all of his hopes and dreams.

I think that's why Kill Team is a thing. It's a gateway drug of sorts.

Oh yea, I got some WA Grognards and painted them up as Praetorian redcoats. Really impressed with their stuff.

only if they all wear red headbands, jungle fighters isn't really something you can copyright. who's gonna come after you, the us government for basing your army on the vietnam war? same for other national or historical armies (germany would just complain about the triggering imagery, not that krieg violates their ww1 copyright...)
like most things GW bases their releases on sales and the money they can make, as @Male Idiot said IG has the same problem WHFB had where the entry price is just too high, meaning less (potential) players, thus no buyers. can't really blame them since physical production capacity isn't free and unlimited. but do they even produce on pre-order these days?

at least they can't squat it this time...

Yeah some of those consoomers are really something else...
Oh wait I've got a reasonable sized container full of unpainted minis. Never mind.
you only bought those for the tactical options, right?

You wont see any huge overhauls for 'nids and guard infantry because very few people wants to but 70+ guards as an entry cost and established players probably wont swap out the hundreds of tyranid/guardsmen they have for the new one. Best youll see is new monstrous creatures or tanks.

Anybody care to recommend a good alternative site for minis? I can't buy a 3d printer for now and the GW guard lineup is pretty stale

I am open for anything honestly.
Well bang for buck is the Raumjager/Grognards/Eisenkern over at Wargames Atlantic. Nice, cheap plastic that is a lot nicer than shitty Cadians. Only downside is it's only infantry.

For a larger budget, Victoria Miniatures has nice resin of tons of IG regiments. I think the prices were $50/ 10 man squad.

Anvil Industries has a regiment builder that lets you fully customize your regiment bit by bit I think. Edit - prices are pretty much the same as UK Cadians. No contest here.

If you're in the US, Mad Robot Miniatures also makes customizable squads with tons of different bits. Edit - also around the same price as Cadians. No contest. Also has a neat panther-esque Leman Russ proxy.

Those are the big ones off the top of my head. Much more flavor than GW cares to shit out for anything non-super human.

Edit - if you want to try fem-guard, the French company Raging Heroes makes some very intricate resin figures.

Feel free to pm me if you have more questions. I went down this rabbit hole in the past lol.
