All I got from that video was that Cathay is the mandatory appealing to the Chinese gimmick of the game and that new, non-daemon things will probably suck.

Someone who knows fantasy, please correct me if I'm wrong. But weren't the Cathay and ice bear people around for a while in the lore, but just never developed upon? Or am I going schitzo.

Kislev had the biggest prominence but not really

Cathay/Nippon/Araby we’re typically minor lore mentions with random ass models maybe showing up. All I remember is Nippon Ninja trained Clan Eshin.

Cathay is going to be designed mostly by Creative Assembly from the ground up since they didn't have models. They also fleshed out the vampire coast units, including one OC commander. CA did a great job I think and they're a fun faction, plus one of the designers actually wrote books for some of the characters in the past.
Designing a very alien faction on scraps of lore? Well the balloons look dumb but every faction has THAT unit and they'll probably end up fine.
Edit: im wrong. According to Total War blog, GW designed the entire faction, and allegedly table top rules too but I can't find the source for that claim.

I don't like the Cathay stuff, but honestly, I'd never play as them anyway. Hell, I don't even play as the Empire, and I actually like them. Daemons are what I care about in III, and once Chaos Dwarfs and Ogres get their obligatory DLC, I'll care even less about Cathay.

I hope we continue to get DLC packs for older factions eventually, though. We don't even have Thanquol!

That kind of high fantasy is pushing it even in AOS. The Kharadron sky-ports are Dorf science.
Warhammer Fantasy had skulls forming out of mountains and rats digging massive tunnels throughout the world. And don't forget the perpetual fog of Tor Yvrasse. WHF can be a little high fantasy in its geography, but not going the AoS route of having something like the land of Ghur fighting against itself because it's the land of beast magic.

So im playing the age of sigmar app in my breaks. Doesnt seem fucked up like the 40k app. Also if you run stormcast stormdrakes. Its actually a 3 box army (970)

I'll probably not play cathay lol
But I think it's neat that you get another faction as a bulwark against chaos. The elves are too focused on fighting each other, the dwarfs got the orks, and the lizards are in the lustria battle royale
It's a good explanation for where chaos is losing a lot of its manpower, and that the empire is bought valuable time by having chaos throw its forces at cathay

As long as the introduction of Cathey doesn't take away from the overall game itself then its a good introduction. Always nice to have more variety of things to play.

Yeah the big boi Stormcasts to run 6 is almost 500 points literally Allarus tier.

It's in Warhammer Community's announcement:

"This iteration of Grand Cathay is a Warhammer Studio creation through and through. Everything from preliminary concept sketches and special character design to how the army performs on the battlefield was established by the same teams working on the wider Warhammer settings. In fact, the Warhammer Studio went so far as to establish each and every unit for use on the tabletop, including stats and special abilities."

CA then took those stats and translated them into Total War. Apparently they used 8th edition rules.

New kill teams announced. T'au and Sisters. T'au are getting a cadian styled upgrade sprue.

Killteam starter box announced. It comes with the ork and krieg killteams, they've also announced their seperate release.

New season of underworlds announced. Showing kruelboyz, and probably the most boring looking stormcasts I've ever seen.
