You already took mine and everyone elses money to make the game worse with every iteration, and now you can't even put out a "complete" offline version as compensation? No, WE have to take weeks out of our schedules to grind out these characters or we will permanantly have no access to them in a fucking offline version. Fuck these cunts, and especially, fuck you, Tony. I'll wait till someone puts out a "complete" re-pack and/or community servers before I ever think about touching this fucking garbage again.
I would hope they WOULD unlock everything by default, and make the achievements obtainable offline before the server closure. I mean Marvel's Avengers did THAT much with ITS post-launch content after that delisting.

There's been leaks out there casting blame on the game director Tony. Someone one reddit gathered quotes from multiple ex-multiversus devs on reddit

It's long so here are some notable parts

So, the goal is to sell cosmetics... but most people won't bother, so you have to figure out how to sell something else.... and the solution you basically always end up on is selling time. I can tell you, I know players will pay for early access, and just as much that the people unwilling to do so will hate it. The thing is, in well over a decade in the industry, I've learned that the people that complain on social media don't really impact the people that spend. And we need that spend (40+ staff and server fees, and in MVS case a surprising amount of licensing fees: there's no goku because the japanese IP holder charges a flat $20,000,000).

Anyways, back to selling time. The logic of early release is easy. All players can get the character for free, but we tax the impatient (and there are more impatient than you think). Everyone else can wait, or pay.

Tony had the great (if obvious) idea and the connections to start a company to pitch it.

He's also terrible at management and all elements of design except for gameplay, while holding a Musk-esque sense of his own genius. This leads to an incredibly chaotic dev environment and incredibly jagged design (as he alternates between ignoring things and hyperfocusing on it - he'll micromanage the things he thinks are cool, like rifts, and ignore things he thinks are dull like missions - and then sweep in one day and demand people change everything). The head of engineering is good in engineering but has the same terrible design instincts Tony does.

So here's the thing.

There is a QA team, but what there isn't is a QA Plan. They just all play the game (largely with Tony) and do feedback about balance, when they're not telling the other designers what to do. This is a problem because they're friends with Tony (or at least he thinks so).

This makes QA incredibly inconsistent and biased, because they just don't bother to test things sometimes, or just don't notice things... And they're immune to criticism (trust me, don't slip up and tell Tony that QA didn't test something, he gets mad).

Chaos and lack of plans is an overall problem at the company, but QA is especially bad because there's no real QA management (note: The positions are technically full) and they mostly just randomly play the game.
^^ This one is really bad. Lack of any quality assurance is belivable with how unbalanced the game got at times.

Put simply, Tony had final say on every decision, and at most WB could pressure him. And Tony frankly has Elon Musk syndrome and thinks he's a perfect design genius.

This is Tony's and the CTO's failure, and it's a failure of leadership and direction. There are plenty of signs

Inconsistent and flip-flopping design decisions (often driven by being overreactive to social media influencers) Features (like rifts) driven into the ground by people who transparently don't understand how a mode like that could be made Monetization decisions that end up in a weird middle space that the players still hate, but also dont' make sufficient money to keep running the game. Truly atrocious testing with both large gameplay bugs and data errors in events going live regularly (Per industry scuttlebutt) A toxic and chaotic dev environment And all of this lands on the Studio Head, especially when they were 2nd party (and let's be honest, by the time of the buyout it was too late). I always presumed the buyout was to try to push Tony aside and get someone competent in place, but that takes time.

So if WB has fault, it's on backing a game with a mecurial would-be genius (with one admittedly great idea) that wasn't remotely ready or qualified to run a studio.

When the game finally closes out i expect a lot of people to come out with horror stories on Tony.

I genuinely enjoyed this game for a while, I haven't played in months although I had recently reinstalled it and was going to get back into it. I really enjoyed shitting on people with that dog and morty and was doing well in random 1v1 & 2v2 ranked. There were definitely a lot of glaring issues like balance and server stability, but when it worked it was fun enough. Now that it is being shutdown is there any smash clones that are f2p that are good on PC? I heard rivals of Aether 2 is pretty good, but the cursory glance I took it seemed like furry slop and it had a price tag.

The final update is here

tl;dr:

-The battlepass, Aquaman and Lola bunny added and are avaiable for FREE
-Shield recovery nerfed and hitpause reduced which is an indirect nerf to shields
-Reduced hitpause also makes a lot of combos and chains come out faster so the game is overall faster
-Significant kit changes to a lot of the cast, like smith losing jab uppercut, shrinking iron giant, killing jasons bounce combos
-Aquaman doesnt look too strong but he's very well animated. He's nubia with water splashes, a tentacle and blowfish summon.
-Lola looks simple, a lot of multihit kicks and strong kicks. She has a heart kiss stun like Bugs and a basketball projectile like lebron but her basketball has no cooldown at the cost of only 1 so i can see that becoming cancer real fast.

Lol I just found out about it, doomed from the start. Also looks like they at least added the cool (albeit furfag bait) Lola Bunny and not the...other one.

I just installed the game, what's the best way to get Jason, Raven, Welma and the iron giant?

This can be read two ways. Either: a. Everything earnable will be automatically unlocked in offline, or b. only what YOU earned will be accessible.
Multiversus shuts down today at 9 AM PST. Which begs the question, say you download it before the delisting at that time, do you obtain all characters or are you left with an incomplete product?

Wasted potential the game like every single Smash clone. I don't get why WB dropped the ball so hard with this when they could've potentially had a winner. Is it that hard to copy Sakurai when you have the characters people like?
TBQH this game has made an impression and built an audience.

If WB chose to re-release it as a standalone smash clone, it will make sales and skyricket off of the momebtum. Give the fans a few more moments to boil mayhaps.

You can live-service it with cosmetics and dlc. It doesn't have to be an alway online, game-as-a-job deal.

But of course that won't make all the money in the entire world and WB heads will be against the isea. They're also trying to actively destroy WB because line not go up always, so no again. Also not banking of a current trend so, again, no!

If I remember rightly you keep the characters you unlock and then the rest are gone forever

The new versions allows access to all rifts from all seasons for play offline, seemingly with unlocks. I already owned every character, so I don't know if any not unlocked are permanantly locked or can be gained via rifts. I do know I have no access to any variants I didn't already own, so half my characters don't have a single extra skin. This also goes for account cosmetics like announcer packs.

Edit: From what I read on Steam, all characters unlock regardless, but cosmetics are forever locked. There's literally 0 reason to of not just have absolutely everything unlock.
