Was Chris' dry-up inevitable?

I kind of feel sorry for the guy. If I were friends with him in high school, I would've done everything in my power to set him on the straight and narrow. I would've taught him how to socialize, get girls. I'd have him try a different hobby, like boxing for example. The kid in me weeps for Christian Weston Chandler. However, as an adult, I regret to say that he is doomed.
I suspect that if you'd known Chris then, you probably wouldn't have seen him as much more than just another quiet, geeky kid. Even if you'd spotted the rot setting in, the issue would be that you'd be fighting against both Chris' resistance to change and Borb's tendency to just let him do whatever the hell he liked as long as it didn't bother them.
