Was Society Created to Drink Beer? - Or, why did man decide to pursue grain instead of game as a source of calories?

Grain was chosen because you could make alot of food from it and that gave an evolutionary advantage to different tribes.

If anything, alcohol was just a byproduct of that.

Yes and no.

Beer back in the eldest days was very weakly alcoholic, but enough not to spoil fast like meat. It was also less filtered. You got more calories, less intoxication.

Same as why watered rum was used in navies.
it is also a great way to preserve. fermantation or distillation always expands the shelf life of things.
More like beer is a safer water source and economy of scale allowed specialized agrarian societies to outproduce and outnumber the hunter gatherers.
eh, the waters in mesepotamia is way more clear than in most toher regions in old world. Yes it is a safer thing to drink but i believe it is a secondary reason.

a way to keep water clean. it was simple survival in a time where running water effectively didnt exist for most populations
