Atlantic Seaflight 70351.41.55 is another candidate. I can get it for $250. It's exactly twice the price of the Timberland. If you think it's worth it, please let me know!
This is the exact watch I picked up for myself because it was on sale after Christmas for $220. If I decide to change the band it might be a hassle but I have black leather for all my other accessories. I don't wear it unless I'm going somewhere formal. Maybe if I didn't work with my hands I would get something with a metal band.

I wasn't completely ruling out bracelets. I just prefer leather because I think it looks better. However, I ruined a leather strap once when I was hiking in the mountains in the summer and it soaked up a lot of sweat. I learned to use transparent leather grease to waterproof it at least a bit.

I was thinking of the face, not necessarily the band. I don't wear watches much anymore, except for occasions. For outdoor I would think something with a silicone band, and no finish would be ideal. Back before cell phones I had to polish scratches off my watch face pretty often.

I have trashy watch tastes but I like having a watch. My all time favorite watch is the Freestyle Velvet Shark, unfortunately discontinued:

- Day, Date, and 24hr hands, not some faux-complications like many budget watches have.
- 100m water resistance, haven't tested to anywhere close to that depth but they've held up in any water I've put them in.
- Fucking sturdy.
- Shocking amount of compliments for a <$100 watch.
Fun one that indulges my weebery, Sakura Storm G-Shock:

And last my least favorite, not really because it's a bad watch but because it's a bit too big for my tastes. A GA100C:
