Wayback/Ghost Archive can archive YouTube

GhostArchive seems cool, but I'd caution against archive.org. They can, and have, deleted all sorts of shit for the flimsiest of reasons. Literally all you have to do is send them an email asking them to take it down and they do so promptly in many cases. (Here's a fun game: pick a long-running lolcow thread that has Wayback archive links from like 2015-2018, and see how many of those links now 404.)

Interesting tip, thanks for sharing! :-) I wonder if Ghost Archive also archive videos posted on Dailymotion, Rumble, Bitchute, Odysee, Vimeo, etc...as well?

easy video archive potential? fuck yeah

Ghostarchive is a web archiving website and platform. It is designed to be fast, versatile, and easy to use. A open source release is planned soon.
Ooh, someday if we don't trust ghost archive, we can in theory have a private instance. It wouldn't be very good for proving we didn't mess with the archive because bad faith actors are going to assume everyone is lying, but at least it'll help for context level proofs.

I agree with you. IA removes content for absolutely no reason at all other than it hurt somebodies feelings and they submitted a request.

Which is funny when you consider that archive.org is often abused by pirates and has tons of software and even entire TV shows uploaded by some randos in an obviously copyright-infringing manner and that stuff is up for years.
While their certainly is abuse on IA what most people don't realize is that IA has been granted an exemption to the DMCA for the purpose of preservation. Anything that is considered obsolete, on media that is susceptible to degrading (thanks optical rot!) and require access to the original media or hardware is considered eligible to be added to the Internet Archive.

SafeDisc, StarForce, and SecuRom finally did something to benefit humanity, oh the irony. :story:
