Angering a client doesn't promise you will get fired. Source - I do it daily.

What all transpired and what makes you assume termination from it?

Streamed at too high of a bitrate. Client has pulled all of their future contracts from us because of it. Potentially lost the company millions.
That could hurt....

Now's the time to rally your wagons. Was there a fail safe to make sure this didn't happen? Were you soley on the project, were you leading a group?

Start putting together a plan of how to undo this or better yet at your junction prevent it from happening again. Showing you learn from mistakes can help a lot.

Best of luck but that sounds rather grim, professional speaking.

I fucked up and a client's pissed off.

How should I deal with this?

If you feel that you will be fired it may be a good idea to resign your position before the firing can take place and begin to actively search for a replacement job. That way you don't have to tell your possible future employer that you were fired and can push forth something along the lines of "I am moving and needed a new job closer to my new house" or something along those lines. Also remember to look to remove any negative social media posts if you have any from an old profile with your real name. Some people forget to do this and it can be costly as HR will always check into such things if the job is worth a damn.

The most important aspect is to not wait and make this situation appear (to your future employer) that it is a choice more so than anything negative taking place at your former position. That way you can circumvent the entire process of explaining why and what happened at your former position to lose your job. Good luck.

Wait, the client has yanked all future contracts over a solitary fuckup? That client sounds like triple-distilled ballache, to be honest. As has been asked previously, is there any kind of provision to stop this sort of thing from happening, or is it entirely dependent on the guy on the ground remembering everything flawlessly? If it's the latter, then it's the company's fuckup just as much as yours.

While I don't know much about tech I don't know if it's a big or little fuck up, so I can't comment if pulling contracts is a warranted response.
You have to accept when you work with clients you aren't in control of the, they may be dicks, may be nice etc. You get what you get even if this is minor and the client is being a dick. It's part of working with clients. If OP's fuck up was mild or major but cost the company it's really up to HR to see if the client over reacted or not. Also end of the day if these contracts cut, OP effected the bottom dollar, that's never a good place to be in.

I don't mean to be bleak just speaking from experience.

Well, most of my jobs for the past fifteen years have been purely technical and clients that are this petulant over a simple screwup are rarely worth the money they bring in, in my experience. OP, I genuinely hope that you don't get done over for this - while I've no idea as to the ins and outs of your specific job, this is an obvious instance of the client throwing their toys out of the pram in a fit of pique.

Sorry to hear that bro.
What's the backstory, do you fuck up regularly, have you angered the management, do you have tremendous BO and everyone hates you, do you creep on your co-workers?

Blackmail an intern into trading sexual favors with the client to keep their business then kill the intern to cover it up.

Use your one-million-folded-over envelope cutting knife and ceremoniously commit seppuku in front of your bosses.

It is the only honourable course now.
