First, he is just too much under the influence of his delusions for me to reasonably believe that his paedophilia is not just another manifestation of his illness. Part of his craziness apparently involves seeing himself as a pure innocent (he uses that word in the dick video above) saviour martyr-figure and I can see the schizo logic that would require his complement to be the same, which in this era of sex-work-is-valid I doubt he imagines finding in an already psychologically formed adult. When he refers to Pygmalion, he means that he wants to create a lover "from the bottom up" (exactly like Chris Chan) which necessarily involves starting with a child, though as raw granite to chisel out his impossibly perfect paramour and not as an end in itself. Wendell unconsciously thinks he is too pathetic to get a woman except by passive deceit -- he needs to shield her from the competition and imprint on her young or else she'll see him for what he is. I see from that video of him watching that rather frightening clip of the asian child posing (uggh) that he genuinely dislikes the unabashed exploitativeness of it all (and it certainly is very gross) and expresses that he wishes she would talk about herself, her likes and dislikes, her crushes, etc. I don't get the feeling he's presently attracted to her as much as he thinks that she'll become an attractive woman at about the time his brainwashing regimen is complete. There are many types of pedophile -- with two broad categories of situational and preferential. Among the latter, we have the subtype being the seductive pedophile; this is what Wendell would be if he actually were one. This is the least dangerous type because they are both obvious in their motivations and do not get off on pain or blatant coercion. But this is digressing a lot. He is just too crazy to be reading anything at all into mindfucked logic.
Additionally, pedophilia is a common subject for delusions (though much more so in respect of obsessive-compulsive disorder) simply because it is widely detested and so one can torture oneself endlessly by worrying that one is a pedophile, unable to stop oneself from hurting children, etc. Four hundred years ago, I am sure crazy people accused themselves of being witches, or worried that one day one would wake up in the middle of the night and not have the self-control to stop from cursing the neighbour's cattle.
Edit: looking through his psychiatry notes, I see that some doctors thought he had schizotypal personality disorder as opposed to schizophrenia. This strikes me as odd and suggests that what we're seeing in the videos is not what they were seeing, although you would think he would come into contact with psychiatry at his worst and not his best. The notes don't make reference to his weird speech affect, either; on the contrary, they either ignore the way he talks or say that he is a little manic or expressing pressured speech. Again, the videos don't show a hint of this, and in fact I am struck by his poverty of thought and droning slow monotone. He supposedly graduated after ten years only two years ago; the guy I see in the videos couldn't pass a class I don't think, not even in philosophy.
