Wendigoon Thread

After watching his videos again, I think his biggest strength is how different his approach is compared to his contemporaries. Compared to people like Nexpo or Barely Sociable that try to make it all mysterious all eerie, or those dime a dozen true crime channels with their almost obssesive approach, Wendigoon is like having a friend telling you about some weird story. You always have that one friend in your circle, and Wendigoon is just like that one friend
Basically all channels like this: OoooOooOoOOOoo spooooooky gay shit oooo

Wendigoon: bro check this shit out. You like the feds? Not for long you don’t.

I avoided Wendigoon for a while as someone familiar with somethingawful and the people who identify as "goons." But he's the anti-goon. I find that largely no matter what the content, people who aren't smug, self-righteous shitheads are viewed much more positively. People are sick of assholes and complainers. Wendigoon is refreshing in that respect, and it's nice to see someone obviously enjoying what they do.

It's great when he laughs at some of the sillier things on icebergs too, because they are funny. You just can't make somethings spooky why not laugh.

If I remember correctly, on a podcast (don't remember which one), he explained that his name is a combination of Wendigo and Gooning, which is from what I understand is a hobby where people hike in the woods at night, wearing night vision goggles.

He comes across as authentic; when he says thank you for watching, I believe him (simp that I am). His videos on the Divine Comedy were excellent but my favorite is probably the NSFW Raft because it's hilarious. Wendigoon's lack of pretention is refreshing as is his ability to be an unapologetic gun-loving sunday school teacher in a niche dominated by wokies and spergs.

Bonus on the last point is that he also isn’t a fucking sperg about it… unapologetic is the perfect way to describe it, he’s got no axe to grind but nonetheless makes his views known passively.

Love Wendigoon's work. Probably the most interesting person I'm subscribed to! I love how in depth he gets and it shows that he really cares what he works about. It's no wonder he's gained a lot of notice so quickly (hopefully it doesn't go to his head, but I don't think it will). I feel like he's just genuinely a wholesome dude.

I have seen a couple of his videos and this is making me want to see more.

However, it's so weird that he says "whenever" instead of "when."

The statement "whenever the cop saw him, he shot him" is different from "when the cop saw him, he shot him."

You can figure out "whenever he graduated from high school, he..." because most people only graduate high school once, but if it's a story about a sequence of events, it goes from a malapropism to actually confusing.

And now that it's obvious to me, it sticks out and it's annoying.

Yeah he's from the southern US so some of his turns-of-phrase and vocal tics are a bit strange. If you watch the early iceberg videos he says "such as" instead of "et cetera" about a thousand times. But midway through the series he stopped saying it so often, so I think he realized and adjusted.

Actually never heard of him until very recently (a few people mentioned him in the Plagued Moth thread and it piqued my interest)

Dude’s pretty good. I checked out his Waco vid as well and subbed after. Nice to find a YouTuber who focuses on the topic and isn’t constantly inserting political bullshit. Interested to see what else he has up.

Wendigoon is based as fuck. I always love having his videos on in the background while I'm playing games or writing.

It might be the most popular video of his but I feel it's worth noting because it's a really good intro to who Wendigoon is and his style of content.

I've always sort of had a morbid fascination with video nasties and the way Wendigoon talks about each film is really engaging even though I've heard it over and over. The music used in the latter half of the video is a bop too.

I actually remembered seeing snippets of the Dark Side of Porn documentaries when I was younger but of course I was too young to watch them. Most of the episodes have been archived except for the very last one - which happens to be the one on Animal Farm.

I decided to try and see if I could find the documentary on Animal Farm and actually found it had been posted to dailymotion. It's a fascinating watch and sort of shows that things aren't really all that different now from way back when this film was created when it comes to bestiality and animal rape. The internet just made it easier than ever to distribute it. And before you ask I have downloaded and archived it (sadly trying to add the video file to this post doesn't work). Enjoy!
