Wendigoon Thread

Did anyone else think that this monument episode seems a whole lot less structured than Wendigoon's other videos? He didn't get to the point like he usually does, he waffled on a fair bit.
He watched all these epsidoes just like a week ago, so he probably really rushed the video out.
I think he mentioned being exhausted throughout and outright said he was about to lose his voice toward the third half. Which makes me wonder if he has been sitting and talking for hours on end, editing it down, and releasing the video.

Which also makes me worry about the stress of it all. That can't be healthy.

Tbf you are basing an entire demographic off a small portion of an online community.
Are we still reaslly doing the #NotAll thing or could you maybe understand that I'm just speaking casually and don't feel like qualifying my statement talking shit about Millennials and Zoomers
I’ll admit that I hate watching ARGs because they suck, but I do enjoy having a nerd explaining how George Washington is the Feathered Serpent and how Nixon became a god.
If it was like a book or something I’d probably be more into the mythos, I just don’t like the formats of most ARGs.
Monument Mythos isn't really an ARG, unless I missed the game aspect of it. It's just alternate reality fanfiction.
Agree that a lot of ARGs are kind of boring though. I like the idea of blending fiction and reality to amplify the horror in your writiing but usually the writing in question is pretty fucking bog standard and is entirely held up by the fact that it's interactive in some way.

Since we're complaining about kids these days, I want to bitch about how they call these things "ARGs" when there's no G. It's the video equivalent of a serialized epistolary novel; the genre definitely needs its own name and they should stop saying ARG. People call Mystery Flesh Pit an ARG and that's just cool worldbuilding.

ARG used to mean that you had to find clues and enter them into a hidden section of a mysterious webpage, email people who were in-character, maybe go to some actual locations. The neat thing about ARGs was not quite knowing if you were in the game or in reality, and if you were in reality on purpose or because you'd gone off the rails and were looking up something the designers hadn't thought of. Sometimes that meant groups of people would mass-delusion themselves into thinking there was an ARG that wasn't even there, like the "MGSV ARG" that was just hyperfocusing on promo art.

Words have meanings damnit. I guess these are webseries, but that's too generic.

You’re right, I guess it’s technically analog horror and not an ARG.

The creator rebooted the entire thing because the original had suicide in it and that's very bad.
I wonder where you heard this, because I can't find anything about this.
They very much are. Which is why they get their knickers in a twist over someone like UrbanSpook who touches on all the dark topics you can think of.

It's almost as if horror is also about the absolute evils of man, descending into the darkest depth and not just FNAF animatronic or whatever the fuck Welcome Home is aside from gay baiting and tranny Muppets with autism.
It's really highlighting to me that each generation seems to be more infantilized than the last.
In particular millennials are perpetual teenagers and zoomers are on track to be the most childish generation given how they respond to any remotely dark or sexual theme in any media they consume.
"But muh hecking valid triggers and trauma!"

Oh but you see, it's totally fine when they can indulge in their gross fetishes. Like FNAF and sexualizing a child murderer!

They'd fucking perish in the olden days when age ratings were the only indicators of media's content.
Apparently I'm weird for my generation because I want to gain greater understanding of the horrors, manmade or otherwise, that surround me. Apparently it is not a universal understanding that the safety and prosperity in first world countries of the 21st century is in fact an irregularity.

At least if it all comes tumbling down I will say "took long enough, bitch" instead of becoming comatose after being confronted with a reality unimagined.
This is very dumb navel-gazing.

This was something I noticed way back in the Marble Hornets days

People were calling it an ARG and was like this is just a web series with some goofy easter eggs thrown in.

Nothing was wrong with what I said. Broad generalisations are just plain silly.

I reckon you mighta nailed it. He's done other long form videos but the quality in each video remains consistent, making me assume he takes breaks and shoots it over long periods of time.
Going by when he did the Mythos stream and the video coming out, it must've been a rush job.
Odd why he did it like that though, the appeal of Wendigoon is quality, not quantity.

I believe that feeling some people have with the lack of structure might be due to the lack of structure of the part three. Parts one and two were concurrent in the same timeline and had set events you could connect together.

Random shit got added to try and make it make sense? The last time I watched Monument Mythos, there were no added videos, you had to find corner folk, and house on the water was delisted. Nixonverse was becoming its own thing.

All of this being added, and the end of part two rendered all of his notes useless. No one new is introduced who is important in part three. No timeline needs to be drawn up. Parts one and two set up world building and then rendered it all useless. Which sucks if you make videos. During the livestream there had to be a recap. The video needed a recap.

The red harring from part one and two also just adds insult to injury.

He did the best with he had to work with. During the livestream he mentioned he just rewatched parts one and two so I think he has been working on this longer than it would seem.

That might be because it was said in a tweet and he deleted his account at some point, rather recently.

However, we do have the end result of the changes.

This is in relation to UrbanSpook and before the deletion. I theorize it might have occurred to him that he had a series with suicide in it and was like "No, that's bad"

And then some silly rumors that most likely are not true but just highlight how rabid his fanbase is in regards to him deleting his Twitter.

What is it with horror series and having the absolute worst fandoms?

Maybe that explains why he seemed to brain-fried by the end of it.

I will admit that I tuned out toward the third half because it kinda fried my brain.

The whole "here is something nostalgic that is actually Cthulu" is just ridiculously overdone by now. It's a crutch to pull in people to overly convoluted media that people will assumed the complexity will mean depth. Like the monuments are just drivel that could easily be replaced with any alternate history fantasy plot.

I brought this up in either this thread or another one, but the term ARG is so watered down most people probably don't even know what it means anymore. Analog horror fits stuff like monument mythos and Mandela catalog much more. I think the term ARG got popular because people actually started talking about ARGs but ran out of topics so just used the term for series that it didn't apply to at all.

I lost interest in monument mythos and the fact it got so fucking retarded after air force one angel makes me glad i jumped ship, seems like all these series just go the way of ridiculous scale and retarded meta plots.

This ARG/Analog Horror shit just reminds how much of a millennial/zoomer wedding is. He dumps the longest vids on tedious autism like this, instead of shit he can actually analyze with hard facts that appeals to his own ideals and views. In no small part because this is the shit that gets the most views, which is aviut as youtube faggot as you can be.

Bible stuff without the Lore Lodge fags, or fed posting/conspiracy stuff is what Wendi does best. Not just because it's stuff he can actually research, not just because the source won't invalidate everything that came before for the lulz, but because it's simply not as retarded.

Washington gets stretched infinitely and becomes some sort of Lovecraft God? Nixon is a jesus/superman like god-being? And the ultimate savior of it all is some niggo who didn't get to be an astronaut so he made art instead? The fuck is this shit :story:

Have to agree with this. I had lot of interest in analog horror at first, but 90% of the time the creators go off the rails. Its free so I can't bitch too much, but its hard to get invested in this stuff as it all starts to come off extremely childish.

Another thing that really ended up annoying me about analog horror and the often used VHS format/filters was how practically every creator fails to understand the physical medium, its limitations of the time, and how to actually incorporate that into the story telling. Magnetic tape doesn't glitch out. Kind of takes me out of the experience as someone who grew up and actually used the tech.

This is the start of a good point. I don't care much about analog horror, so I can't really gauge Wendigoon's reaction to it. Wendi needs to record an episode where he explains Mulholland Drive so I can better calculate his baseline.

How many times do I have to explain this…
Horror is about unveiling the things that make you uncomfortable and even disturbed.
Trauma, monsters, child abuse, drugs, rape, death, the unknown, meaninglessness, responsibility, etc etc. I can name a squillion stories about these subjects and more, and the reason they are impactful is because of the harsh nature of these subjects being explored and exposed. No concept is off limits in horror, it’s part of why it is the greatest genre, the only limitations are how you portray these things.
There is a difference between horror and exploitation, of course, but this is about proper horror and writing, not shock for the sake of it.

I know what you mean, it doesn't have to be autistically accurate but at least get it in the right ballpark.
Reminds me of this video my friend sent me a few days ago
tl;dr
spooky iCarly website with creepy flash games

But the guy describes this as "analog horror" in spite of the fact that it's literally just flash games on a website from the late 00's this is in no way analog horror.
I know it's probably just because the term "analog horror" is really popular right now but still words do mean things.

Sadly, modern horror is about referencing Cthulu or characters hallucinating situations

Tom trying to nonchalantly bait Wendigoon into talking about NSFYT conspiracy theories (David Ike/Covid/ect) and politics was pretty funny.
Tom taking passive-aggressive jabs at Wendigoon's country boy demeanor and lightly trolling his fiance was meh.

Really the whole thing came across as a sardonic zoomer playing Fortnite with an easygoing 30-year-old boomer...
