Wendigoon Thread

A little bit of Wendigoon glaze though, as long as Wendigoon isn't a goon
People disagreed with me, but between the "ironic" references to gooning on CC, associating with open gooners like Hunter, Charlie and Oompaville, and now the "ironic" dress-wearing on stream I'm predicting a Wendigoon degeneracy arc in the next five years. There are no normal YouTubers.

I can see it. Nothing good lasts forever. I am fearful that Wendi goes the ibubbbz route. Meats even been a little more political lately, not overtly, but he cracks snide jokes that appeal to a leftist sense of humor.
I don't want them political at all. I don't give a fuck about their personal politics as long as it doesn't reflect on their content. But sadly, you can't have that.

I can see the arc of Wendi going full lefty fag though.
He clearly doesn't like being hated and I could see him adopting a lefty angle to get less hate
I don't think he takes confrontation well, so yelling at him might be all it takes, sadly
I think he's too normie for that and if the Native American demographics during the last election are any indication than they're further to the Right than people give them credit for.

Call me a fanboy but I don't see it. This is a guy who is already married(no need to look for sex), keeps talking about and leaning into his Christianity(not political but not uncommitted) and has a lot of connections and makes a ton of money and strong(albeit cringy) fanbase. As far as the "ironic" aspect it's probably just him being a normie and not knowing about the rabbit holes out there. Like whenever Hunter talks about "redpill" shit, it's so clear that he hasn't the slightest Idea what it used to mean compared to what it means now. They're not deep internet or politics people basically.

Wendi isn't an edgy creator, so he'll never have Trolls remorse. Idubbbz was the edgiest shit on normie tube for an entire generation of faggots that know nothing about guys like Metokur or the other bloodsport people.

Call me a doughhead but it's more likely that a lefty retard trys something on him and that pushing him into outright Christian nationalism (think Auron MacIntyre, Doug Wilson[Blog and mablog] and the writer of the unprotected class) outright right wing anti-gay, unapologetically Christian and American(obviously), also influenced by libertarianism(Hans Hermon Happe) but not fully committed to it like ancaps are.
I don't think he cares much for politics, plus he just seems like a normie libertarian that doesn't want to rock the boat.

That writer has a word of the day calendar. Pretty good though.
I like words, and personally I’m tired of authors not using good words because the audience might (God forbid) need to look at a dictionary once or twice instead of continuing on with their mediocre-at-best grasp of the English language.
English is an amazing language with so much to learn, and really I want people to use all these different words because I just enjoy that kind of thing.

He's overdoing it though. It's distracting and comes off as forced and pretentious.

By god The Red Tower might just be the worst written story they've covered on the show. It's like the guy read House of Leaves, tried to copy the writing style of the academic paper, but he was retarted and all he understood were the big words and complex sentences. It's the same five points about that fucking factory repeated over and over again but through the most horribly overwrought prose known to man. I swear, half the words he uses (and reuses again and again I might add) don't even make any sense—"seething speculation," what the fuck does that even mean?

Even the guy who wrote Dagon's Mirror would tell him to tone it down.

E: The ideas and images aren't even half bad, but it's dressed up in 20 pounds of frosting that you're left sick of the entire cake

E2: Second story was more bearable, though outside the long dialogues I had a hard time picturing where this thing was supposed to take place, or even what was going on half the time. Read more like it wanted to be a play instead now that I think about it. Think it would work a lot better if it was a visual story tbh.

Ever thought how weird it is that anything at all exists? It would make a lot more sense (as if it would leave anything to make sense with) were there to be nothing at all. But no, there's some underlying ineffable thing, some principle, some first mover, from which all of this stuff that we are and talk about came from, and I really dig The Red Tower for evoking that eeriness in a narrative fashion.

This time they are reading an actual published book that isn't from reddit.
It concerns me that out of all the five dollar words in the stories, the one Hunter fucks up the most is "anonymity". There is zero reason for an alleged college educated individual to struggle with that one.

Why is it that I'm ok with Ligotti's prose in The Red Tower, but it becomes insufferable the minute he starts writing people? Meat's commentary is the only thing that makes the following story tolerable, and even then I dropped it partway through.

I suppose I could accept that The Red Tower was written as such to make the fictional narrator out to be a bit of a blowhard, but then seeing the style repeat in a more traditional short story format shows that, no, that's just how Ligotti's writing all of these.

Because the narrator in the red tower is more abstract, he isn't really a character and his main purpose in the story is to paint a picture with words, so purple prose fits. Meanwhile the other stories have actual characters so the purple prose representing their thoughts and speech, makes them (and the author) seem incredibly pretentious and dweeby.

Since I don't think there are dedicated Lore Lodge or Red Thread threads, as kind of a Red Thread post-Wendi update, Aidan Mattis was a guest this week and it's been pretty fun so far. His sperginess balances out Jackson's dullness and he's pretty knowledgeable on the topic (Donner Party) which is something Red Thread is missing a lot of the time.

Kinda the rhythm they're hitting is Jackson has his script like usual, he makes a broad statement of fact, and then Aidan spergs out for a bit on stuff he knows and goes on tangents that lead to more talking points, and then they have the new host (Friendly Jordies, idk him at all) to offer a layman's opinion and prod for more information. Much better than the previous host balance where it was (usually) three layman (occasionally they'd cover something Wendi was knowledgeable about which were the better episodes imo). Aidan brings both some energy and some knowledge which is nice.

I mentioned thinking he'd be a good replacement when Wendi left and at least based on this episode I definitely agree with myself lol. Seems like he's having a good time, hopefully he's available semi-regularly. I think it's the longest episode by a pretty good bit, almost four hours

Red Thread post-Wendi update
They lost ANOTHER host!? Jackson is batting 0-3 on keeping co-hosts.

Nah, just let this podcast die, the main draw hosts are long gone and Jackson is dull and isn't good at research. Besides, the show was flawed in it's format and premise that made a lot of episodes awkward to listen to.
