Wendigoon Thread

Finally finished the episode. If I could visit a world where that exact same story had been written without the cringy "MAN BAD RAPIST, WOMAN POOR VICTIM" throughline and the intolerable 20 minute long GI Joe PSA at the end about consent, then the horror bits throughout and the writing style would make it one of my favorites. It is INSANE that Hollywood thought they could turn this into a movie without completely gutting it. They must have bought this at the height of #metoo hysteria and then been saddled with an unfilmable concept because they'd get crucified if they try to take out any of the rape stuff now.

Like, you could have done this with any other trope of shit that will get you killed in a horror movie other than cheating, and it would work just as well. Make it a story of excessive pride or vanity or just plain covetousness and it would work as well as rape. But I get the feeling the story was built from the ground up by the author to be an extended analogy about how, "You should believe all women who regret sex because it's totally like this story about supernatural rape bells I wrote." At least, that's how the vast majority of the YouTube commenters are taking it. Well, the ones who aren't repeating stupid "I'm up creeping my cast in the rape spires in dead Meat Guy's woods but we are so back, Chat" retardation.

I had thought this was middling episode for the first two thirds of the video. Story seems good, but held back what I assume is the "Social Programming" that the author has inserted into what would have been much better. Good enough of a story to keep Hunter and Isaiah from making it entertaining with rampant mockery, but not so good that I'm captivated by it on its own merits.

But I just got to the part where Kerry has lost ability to speak in complete sentences and Hunter has been reduced to shouting single repetitive words in the manly character voice he gave her and now I can't stop laughing. I'm fucking dying.

How did Hunter and Wendi react to that part?
I remember the story pretty fondly but the whole "he raped me" part genuinely made me stop it for a minute.
Although I do remember parts where he described kissing her and the she was crying, so it might hold some legitimacy if the author wrote it well.

I skimmed back and it’s a well done mix of what the guy is thinking is going on and what’s actually going on, and at the time I thought the intimate scenes were sketchy with all the crying and obvious fear from the girl.
The twist doesn’t come out of nowhere, at least.

Fair enough.
I remember some parts that, when I was still a little shit, didn't really register to me as red flags.
It was mostly the spooky stuff that kept me hooked, can't wait to see how well the story aged.

I prefer both of them on their own. Wendigoon's content is inoffensive albeit not the best researched, I can put it on while I do chores. And I like meat's animations, but I don't like his other content. I really don't care what the RAPIST BUGS BUNNY guy has to say about movies.

They make a great combo.. but not all the time. I like them. I actually prefer Papa Meat to the Meat Canyon channel because the animations are just "REMEMBER DIS THING? IT'S A RAPIST NOW"
I don't hate them, but I feel it would appeal way more to a 15 year old me. His Papa Meat channels, like his recent one on uncontacted tribes was pretty fun. Hunter seems boring as fuck if you ask him about his personal interests, but give him a topic he'll be more entertaining.
In MC his creations are front and center, in PM his creations (Winslow, Margaret, that bed thing I actually fucking hate) are more background characters and it made me realize his creations are much better as background characters than main stars.

I won't advocate it, but I also wouldn't boycott Hunter's remake of Labyrinth. Though I expect he's going to make Jareth's bulge at least 3 times as large.

after the cryptic iceberg fiasco he really should stop making promises like that and just stick to doing his own thing.

yet to watch the video so I'll hold off on my dooming for now. Probably wasn't the best to start out with something sportsball related, even if the story was pretty wild. This setup could work, but definitely not with a weekly release release schedule. Calling it now, they're gonna go a couple episodes before they drop it cause its dumb and unsustainable.

He mentioned he was getting writers to help cover topics he didn't have time to do a 99+ hour video on, but still wanted to cover and that he would be putting these lower effort (on his part) videos on his Wendigang channel.

The video was fine, but the background music grated on me and it was much more stilted than his typical rambling excited story telling.

Having finished it earlier today, the story would've been way, way better if it wasn't so on the nose with theming throughout.

That being said, this is the closest thing I've ever seen to leftoid-oriented social messaging done well.
If it was just a slight bit less obvious, by dropping the early "gurrr horror stories about man killing wife because she cheat=misogyny" bits I would've gone as far as to go as say it's been done good.
Because (and I hate to actually be siding with a retarded lefty talking point, call me a faggot if you want) judging by some people in the comments & the guys' slowness in putting pieces together, there's still a problem and the story for better or worse succeeded in laying it bare.

The more I think about Spire the more I dislike it. It feels like the author just trauma dumping his guilt over raping a couple girls. That's genuinely how it comes off to me.

But what really gets me is Meat and Goon. I'm usually just dumpin on em when I say they're retarded, but holy fuck. They spend so long thinking this obviously creepy rapist is some teenage Chad Thundercock. Nevermind that the MC is a pretentious cunt who's into morbid shit to a weird degree; how about the fact everytime he tries doing literally anything with the Alina chick she has a meltdown? That's not normal. I don't care how horny I ever was as a teen, that's the biggest, reddest "STOP" sign right next to a girl screaming "NO DO NOT TOUCH ME I DO NOT CONSENT THIS IS RAPE HELP ME".
And then their non-stop redpill shit and the gay little PSA at the end. Fuck me.

I genuinely think Wendigoon and Hunter would be quicker to pick up themes and incongruities if they didn’t stop after every paragraph to commentate or goof around, but that’s part of the fun of a podcast I suppose.
Like, if you just want to listen to a story you get an audiobook, if you want something fun to put on you pick a podcast.
