My issue with modern pastas and NoSleep stories is they're mostly just competent
Precisely my issue! The biggest issue is that a lot of these episodes are just filler sludge, because the stories arent bad enough, nor good enough to listen to. The issue is that makes it such a detriment to the format is that theres no trade-off. I can listen to Penpal or Borrasca and be fine with the lack of commentary from the hosts because the story makes up for it in and of itself. I can also listen to Happy Appy or The Sandman because, while the stories aren't good, that lends to the hosts being able to lampoon and take the piss out of the stories, which is also entertaining enough to be worth a listen.
With many of these episodes since the start of 2025 it's just Lips and Fat reading a story that's "fine" and having no input because Fat's style of comedy is inherently degrading and Lips has seemingly put himself in the position of Tranny Hypeman. As a result it feels like in between every good story (or, preferably, good
episode), theres three weeks of filler content.
If I was either of them I honestly would just outright not publish these episodes and I would (horrifiyingly enough) take viewer suggestions over what they're doing now, which is having some gook pick and choose stories for them. Harry obviously doesn't have the taste nor interest to pick stories that make interesting episodes and hasn't for a while. It's crazy how good we had it just a year or so ago, going from back to back readings of Left-Righr Game, Borrasca, Penpal... then stuff like Smile.jpg, Jane the Killer, etc...
Although, that would take more effort, and any more effort than sitting down and being able to banter with your best friend, for a five digit pay, four times a month is too much!
I dunno, it feels like they're trying to cater to an audience that doesn't exist. They seem conscious of the fact that the videos they get worked up and angry at do the best, but then you can hear them actively try to sabotage a "crash out" before it even occurs? I don't know why, but they seem to be under the impression that a majority of their audience wants to use their show as an audiobook review format of horror stories, rather than the advertised "a nerd and an idiot tackle internet horror." I would assume its a loud minority or the paypiggies considering a vast majority of user suggested stories always tend to be awful (happy appy, my property, etc...)
I don't mean to make an essay on the Creepypasta grift podcast, but I've been listening to them consistently since I started a new job a year back and my job naturally has a lot of dead air, I also grew up on Creepypasta tumblr as a kid. As a result, I havent missed a single episode since last November so I naturally have a lot of thoughts on the matter.
