Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

some.... bald guy? (I only watched the first 2 seasons of korra like many others have but that was seriously the best non-korra korra character you could put on the big character announcement?),
henry rollins wanted more money

Berenstain bears both the 80s and 2000s versions. You can't go wrong with them, and while I know you said "no iPad kids" episodes of both versions are plentiful on youtube.
I would recommend that, those shows still feel very pre-2000's to me with kids still going outside doing things we don't see often anymore.

See the problem isn't the device itself it's the way parents just let their kids have one then just let them do whatever they want with it. It's the 21st century equivalent to how millienials were plopped in front of the TV and the DVD player. You need to supervise what your kids watch.
Pretty much. Some parents just can't take it dealing with children.

I watched the latter a lot as a kid. The opening is probably one of the only country music songs I unironically like.
It will be $30 and have 12 playable fighters. Korra really got the short end of the stick with only 2 characters being playable.

I love how a character who only ever appeared in flashbacks and spirit Zoom gets a spot over any of Korra's friends.

That's Zaheer, the main villain of the third season, and the first evil airbender.

Interesting TikTok pull lead me down to watching a video from Lil’ Toughy. The owner of the channel is Emily Brundige, a former animator/creator for Cartoon Network and Disney who made multiple failed pitches and is now selling a book on creating pitches for future animators.

So far she has two projects that actually made it to development - Goldie on AppleTV and her indie project Strawberry Vampire.

Wanted to share her recent video going over her former CN/Disney pitches as they are something… By her account she got into both studios early in the 2010s for a cartoon that is everything we take note of in this thread, that being a cartoon about puberty of a young girl which includes queer themes and has the girl wander around with period blood on her overalls. In the video, you can see pitches for other CN and Disney originals, for CN there is a show about three telepathic children going to school, while for Disney we see a pitch for a series revolving around a boy and his feral sister.

I’ve got some recommendations that I was putting together for my brother, since I know he wants kids someday but doesn’t want iPad babies. Forgive me if there’s some repeats from other people in here.

Maggie and the Ferocious Beast
Oswald (Grannie loved that octopus)
Clifford the Big Red Dog (Toddler Snowfall loved that dog)
Wonder Pets
Miss Spider’s Sunnypatch Friends
Charlie and Lola
Ruby Gloom
I know it’s live action, but LazyTown was also so damn good

There’s probably more that I’ll eventually remember or dig up from my childhood.
I was gonna say at least half of these! We can't forget Franklin, Madeline, or Bear in the Big Blue House either. I'm not sure if Bear counts as live-action or animation, it's one of those Jim Henson puppet shows.
Yeah, I kinda forgot about that. Probably should have been more specific and said “no brainrot”. I’ve heard plenty about how Cocomelon is basically junk food for the developing mind. And the less said about YouTube kids the better, especially with foreign channels pumping out those weird gory, fetishy AI cat cartoons. IYKYK.
I remember seeing an interesting video where a psychologist broke down how the Kidtube slop destroys kids' brains. I don't recall all the points he made, but one of them was that older media was slower, quieter, less overstimulating, and had narrative structure. Cocomelon is the exact opposite of that, and it's why kids "go into a trance" when they watch Cocomelon then freak the fuck out when it's taken away. I think he said that if a kid was sat down in front of the TV for the same amount of time as an iPad kid is sat down with an iPad, the TV kid would probably fare better since the TV has regular commercial breaks and there are still stories, plus the kid doesn't have the ability to immediately shift the content on a whim like the iPad kid would.

Above only shows 10 characters, so there are two hidden, plus 5 DLC. My guess is Tenzin and Asami would be in base as, Korra does deserve to have something? DLC will likely have Suki, since they choose Kyoshi for some reason. My hope would be Mai is also playable, but she is in a background.
I think that IS showing all 12. Avatar State Aang and Korra might be separate.

There’s going to be a DLC vote, and 5 new characters a year, though, so if this goes on long enough you’ll get a fair few eventually.

Who was asking for an Avatar fighting game?

Just make a hack and slash adventure game about Aang's adventures across the nations during/after the show. The abilities he has access to would be great for fighting variation in that context, it'd be like DMC style-switching but with elements.

It goes to show you, for every Genndy, there's like 20 Micah Wrights. People who are also talented and have a vision but just get shafted by the network or can't scrape together a good pitch to get their series off the ground. Or worse still, amazing people like Maxwell Atoms who get sent to the scooby doo mines after the network screws them over.

I don't know that I would have liked any of this gal's shows but I feel bad for her. A hack would have given up when her first show got rejected but she had multiple pitches, all different ideas that just couldn't get a foot hold. To me that says she has a passion for cartoons and wanted to get a show made at least once.

We take indie animation for granted these days, imagine the days before the internet where you were at the mercy of executives who didn't give a shit, or god forbid a toy line that was a flash in the pan.

Did anyone watch Ewilan's Quest? I was following its development for a while, but they changed to a worse art style at the last minute, and I roll eyes at yet another apparent black man/white woman romance.
Another one for the ambiguous blob files bc I thought the white one was a long haired guy and the black one a short haired woman on first glance

Yep, sad this wasn't meant to be.

Love to see these new guys struggle under committee-voted decisions.

Gotta love how raffish ralph and weasel mscgreed (names up there Angus mcnasty and awful be bad from poumd puppies and little clowns of happy town) were created because it was pretty much an unwritten rule that every 80s kids show needed a bad guy. Even if the source material was as mundane but wholesome as berenstain bears.

Oh well I'll give it credit stan and Jan berenstain still had enough creative control over the show so that it never got AS lame snd cheesy as the aforementioned examples.

Bonus; Mark Evanier writer on Garfield and friends, created the buddy bears because he hated working on the getalong gang another example of sickly sweet 80s kid show writing.

There's a new episode of Dinosauria that came out a few days ago.

No quirky dialogue, no realistic panic attacks, just dinosaurs doing dinosaur stuff. This is one of the better indie animations out there if you ask me.

I like Dead sounds, His Dinosauria, Autodale and Sauria series are dope. No quirkiness nor tranny shit in them. Just simple story telling.

More on the Avatar fighting game, looks like costumes may fully change character animations. Check out the difference between regular and crazed Azula:
