Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

edit actually quoting Saxxon and the image shows up perfectly fine in the quoted text. Weird.

Also found a Twitter cap of her apparently taunting him over his obsession.

It wasn't working for me before. But now I can see the picture.

Holy shit that's creepy. I wonder what else Alex has hiding underneath.
He apparently also has sister issues. I am curious if that is true too

This would technically fall under western animation given that it’s an adaptation of Avatar; Bryke is officially off the live action reboot:
I know many people aren’t Bryke’s biggest fans but I had zero hopes for a live action show to begin with, so seeing the original creators jumping ship just confirms it’s going to be shit. You’d think they’d learn their lesson after the movie.

Who knows? Maybe Netflix will put Aaron Ehasz in charge (since they renewed his other show for 7 seasons, they've clearly got faith in him) and it'll be at least somewhat decent.

If he’s busy running his own show, I don’t think he would have time to work on this, especially if Dragon Prince is renewed for seven seasons.
And to be honest, that’s probably for the best; why would he come back to a show he wrote for over a decade ago (only this time in a more constraining medium), when he seems comfortable creating new ideas for a new generation?

Fleischer Brothers were the real pioneers of adult cartooning. I imagine "Swing You Sinners" would terrify young children. I know it surprised me how dark this one is.

Those were the lawless years in animation. Witness, say, any given cartoon with Betty Boop and Cab Calloway as well. Crazy-ass shit at its best. Then the Code ruined it all, but for a while it was heaven.

I just love that this nightmare cartoon just ends with poor Bimbo getting eaten by a giant skeleton head. If it were Disney they would have ended it with "It was just a bad dream!" as they did with "The Mad Doctor." Fleischer Bros just defiantly states "Catharsis is for wimps!"

You can see a lot of these guys in Cuphead.

I went to look this up to see if I recognized the musicians. I actually don't. "The soundtrack was composed by W. Franke Harling, with lyrics by Sam Coslow."

But no surprise the creators of Cuphead specifically cite this cartoon and Fleischer cartoons more generally as influences.

But then I had to see this:

"John Kricfalusi named it one of his favorite cartoons and played during a retrospective of his personal favorite animated shorts." Fuck you quit creeping into things.

The sheer variety of fucked up things, animated objects, and oppressive atmosphere almost reminds me the original Evil Dead. A lot of the tormentors aren't even identifiable as even categories of things that exist. They're like D.T. hallucinations.

They wrote the song that you hear at the beginning of the cartoon, which was widely recorded in 1930:

I don't know who's playing the music for the cartoon. Maybe some of the journeyman musicians who were on the recording dates for cheap dimestore records. One of the voices is Billy Murray, who was one of the first recording artists and was hurting for work by 1930. He also shows up in a lot of the early Screen Songs (see "In My Merry Oldsmobile" for an example).

The Fleischers had one thing most cartoon studios didn't at the time... celebrity connections. Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway most famously, because they showed up in great Betty Boop cartoons, but the Screen Songs feature a lot of well-known celebrities of the time.

Just watched Justice League Dark Apokalypse War. The film was... something alright.
It's basically a bad future film where the Justice Leage gets BTFO'd by Darksyde and make a last attack to save the planet. I haven't seen the other Dark films beforehand (which is apperantly a plus since some of the decisions contradict those films). The film is fun and there's some weird entertaiment watching known heroes get twisted or killed horribly. There is still annoying focus on the Bat family though at least other lessser known characters get screentime. The final third of the film is a blast.

And then there's the final scene, where the film shits all the good will away. The earth is saved at a huge cost, so the film has a character go back in time to avert the future (we don't see the new future, just the world changing). This is EXACTLY the reason why people don't read comics anymore. Broken heroes at a broken world is a really interesting setup for new stories and characters. But we can't have that because it doesn't satisfy normies who don't read comics anyways, so we gotta waste all the effort of the heroes just to make an ending that's not bittersweet and returns to a status quo we won't see anways. Everything is fucked up so we're gonna move someplace new and do the same shit again hoping this time things works out.

At least it works as an apt political metaphor.

Was gonna put this in recommendations but Im not sure if it's THAT good yet. Started watching 101 dalmatian street on Disney plus. It's ok I can even forgive the toon boom style cause I've reluctantly accepted it and it's not that bad the characters at least look different enough from each other. The only problem is the young characters voices, if they're using actual little kids for the young puppies voices they sound way too much like Peppa pig and Georg and are just plain annoying, but Dylan and delliha sound fine.

I thought Flash had to do so because the Earth was literally dying due to the core being mined, and even if the heroes managed to fix it, most of the world population was going to die before it was fixed. Plus I think Flash caused that version of reality because of the Flashpoint Paradox, which from my understanding is because he tried to change the past once, the Earth is completely and utterly fucked no matter what because of the butterfly effect. So they can rest back to normal, but things are just going to go to shit in a completely different way.

Also I think him going back in time is what they did in the comics for their next massive reboot/reset.

The "why" is understandable, but Superman says there's still hope and it's not like world shattering events are rare in comics, there are probably ways to still save some of humanity.

True, but it probably had to follow the comic or something. Not saying it’s a good excuse, just the excuse.
