Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

So trying to not see color automatically makes you a white supremacist now?

This is why these "people" are losing viewers to YouTube and Netflix. When they're stuck coming down on desperate virgins in a McDonald's bathroom while people of all races become paranoid that someone everyone not of their race wants to rape them with their own intestines, they'll have nobody to blame but themselves. Dipshits. May every one of these twats get hit by a truck.
The rage is a little over the top but the sentiment is agreeable. It’s just bizarre that MLK’s teachings are not woke enough for today’s audience.
I imagine the pandemic made them double down on the money spinners since it's a safe bet. Either that or CN is just being typical CN. Pick the one you like more, personally I'm a fan of the second.
While I’ll always understand that CN is a corporation first and foremost, it’s tiresome to see them be so blatant about it. CN was at it’s best when it let artists do their thing within the boundaries of S&P

Sorry for the double post, but new information requires it. The Gumball movie is now officially in production

EDIT:
AND Book 4 of Infinity Train just got announced. When it rains, it pours!

EDIT 2:
There is actually a ton of stuff announced including a Craig of the Creek spin-off, two new seasons of Total Drama Island, new Ben 10 crossovers (including a 44min one with Generator Rex) and a Teen Titans Go! spin-off. I recommend following CNSchedules for the full update

I wonder how those people that complained about the cease and desist of Total Drama Reunion will react now

A Gumball Movie announced on the same day that there’s a Craig of the Creek and Teen Titans Go! spin-off, along with the fact that Total Drama Island is still ongoing while there’s a Ben-10 crossover in the works?

Something tells me that this is not 2015 anymore.

Generator Rex? Wait, is that a new one or are they rerunning the one they had before?

silence is violence mate, if you're not constantly showing your allegiance you're against them.
it's the last step before a red armbind and markings on undesirables to make easier to distinguish who's who.

I'm so glad I'm not part of this generation of kid's shows. I just made the cutoff.

Teen Titans Go is getting a spinoff, watch all the sperg tears.
At this point, CN is just following Nick’s formula for SpongeBob; in this case, make spin offs for their dying cash cow after failing to capture lightning in a bottle twice. Not like the rest of their line up is better.
Everyone is better off checking out what new indie works there are at this point. At the very least you’ll get something new.

Why would a TTGo spinoff even be about? It's unfocused enough that you could do episodes about any of the other non-TT characters or whatever and it wouldn't be that weird
Apparently it's based upon the Night Begins to Shine episodes. I don't know how they're going to stretch it out, but those episodes were the best episodes of the series.

Ok The Night Begins to Shine 'verse is admittedly much more serious in tone and fantastic like you said, so I could see that getting a spinoff where you could do more serious stuff without cutting into the comedy of Go. I'm concerned if the team can actually keep a consistent quality for NBTS for that long, but if they're gonna spinoff something, at least they picked the good stuff. They've shown they can have a serious story when they want to, let's see if they can keep it up

I'm surprised by TTG's staying power, but in the end I guess a decent comedy show for kids is a good thing. Real shame about that Titans tease turning out to be a crossover though, the flash animation did the OG series characters no favours in the animation department

The first Ice Age was actually a decent movie, and they honestly should've stopped after that one. Their adaptation of Horton Hears a Who is probably the best out of all the modern Dr. Seuss adaptations (quirky ANIMU LOL ISN'T JAPAN WEIRD jokes notwithstanding), and The Peanuts Movie is honestly the best-case scenario for a "modern" Peanuts revival (seriously, I had low AF expectations for it, and I remember being blown away by how faithful it turned out to be, not only to the spirit, but the animation, in its own weird way). Dunno about Robots, haven't seen it yet (also, that is a damn unimaginative title). But aside from those, they ranged from "meh" (Rio), to "ungodly awful" (the aforementioned Ice Age sequels). Still, RIP, I guess.
Ice Age is I think the last kid's movie I saw when I was still a kid (or at least last one I saw in the theater as a kid), which is too bad actually because I barely remember anything about it, I just remember mostly being bored, it's a mediocre at best movie and pales in comparison to Monster's Inc, which I still remember the first time I saw that very vividly.

It's crazy that it spawned so many sequels to me, still it's always sad to here about people losing their job.

They do encourage it, though. Just look at the Voltron Fandom in the Community Threads to see how much the creators of the show tried to engage the shippers and give them what they wanted, only to fail because IT IS NEVER ENOUGH.
Narratively I can understand what a lot of shippers get up in arms about. I mean, essentially there whole schtick is that they believe that two characters should/would get together thanks to some kind of perceived chemistry. Creators feeding into that, hinting, implying etc is definitely going to create some large narrative dissonance for them when it doesn't happen. Writing and narrative has cause and effect. I doubt shippers are banking on some light misleading flirty scenes right. If they want something specific, hinting at that thing eventually happening and then not having it happen is just bad writing. It's weird that this is what shippers want out of the things the read and watch, but it has to be some massive let down for them. This just goes for some cases though. some blame needs to be on the writers of such fiction when they feed into a narrative implication with no payoff.

‘Transphobic as f**k’ Futurama episode leaves a sour taste in Disney Plus viewers’ mouth

A ‘transphobic’ Futurama episode landed with the series on Disney Plus Star, leaving a sour taste in fans’ mouths.

Disney Plus‘ Star launched in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, bringing an entire slate of more adult-themed content to the streamer.

This includes 10 seasons of The Simpsons creator Matt Groening’s sci-fi comedy Futurama.

While fans were largely excited by the new additions, a few highlighted a particularly problematic anti-trans Futurama episode.

The “transphobic as f**k” episode follows Bender, a male robot, transitioning to compete as a woman in the 3004 Olympics.

While people in the comments were quick to point out that this is a cartoon about a man who was frozen for 1,000 years and wakes up in a future filled with robots, others insisted it is an issue.

One fan of the show admitted there is “problematic content” in Futurama which he was “not sure why it was ever considered acceptable”.

One viewer, who is trans, said it was “baffling” that another episode of Futurama featured a “tentacle monster that used neopronouns, and they didn’t make fun of that at all” but that “every trans person in the show is a hideous caricature”.

In Futurama‘s fourth season episode “Bend Her”, Bender, a licentious male-presenting robot, attends the Earth 3004 Olympic Games. He feels that he should compete as well, but feels emasculated by the male Olympic robots. So he decides to pose a “fembot” – female robot – named Coilette to compete.

Coilette easily defeats the female competitors, winning five gold medals.

However, the medalists are called in for gender testing before the awards ceremony, and Bender decides to undergo an operation that will turn him into a fembot. As the fembot Coilette, Bender starts dating robot actor Calculon, who falls for Coilette instantly.

Bender originally wants to rob Calculon of his money with a divorce settlement, but he is moved by Calculon’s deep love for Coilette. Ultimately, he stages Coilette’s death and undergoes a second operation to return to his male identity.

At the end of the episode, Bender claims to not have been changed at all by the experience, but he whispers a heartfelt goodbye to Calculon.

While the cartoon was meant for comedic purposes, one person on Twitter rightly pointed out: “Harmful stereotypes are still harmful regardless of what it is”.
