Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

The Owl House fandom is having a fuckibng stroke right now because Luz (who is stated to be bisexual) spoke to a b o y.
Now they convinced themselves they're siblings, because they can't admit he's a better character than Amity. :story:

edit: shoot, this was supposed to go to the shipping thread, but we were discussing TOH anyway. The recent episode is actually pretty good, maybe the show will redeem itself because stuff about the convent and the emperor are more interesting than romance shit. Hunter is a good character, but it's fucking hilarious how hypocritical Lumity hos are.
What if Dana's been baiting us all along?
edit2: Fans are rallying on twitter to save the show but looking through the hashtag it's mostly Lumity shit. Literally all they care about.
So they're blanking the fact the Luz has been confirmed to be bi by the creator and indeed in the second episode was salivating over "the teen prince of Angstmore." Like someone already posted, more fun bi erasure.

Also the constant "sibling energy" shrieks is both creepy and a further reminder that some of these people really do not comprehend the existence of non-sexual relationships between friends. Guessing Hunter is the Emperor's new golden boy? He had some interesting energy in the episode he already showed up in so having him be interacted with as a person is not bad. While I would say that making them siblings could be entirely viable given Luz's father has not been mentioned (neither was Anne's in Amphibia now that I think about it, the internet though informs me he exists). it would seem like an odd choice especially with a show without much run time left. But hey, it's a children's show about magic.

I still consider Owl House okay, and I would say pretty darn harmless to show to children with the lessons it teaches, but a lot of its fandom need to bathe and stay the hell off the internet. And they should all accept that for all their shrieking adoration of the Amity pairing;

This is pretty much as creepy as most of what Dipper said about Wendy in Gravity Falls. And if they'd had a male character doing it (unless it was about another man) Twitter would have broken out the pitchforks

even tvtropes interpreted this as a masturbation joke, that says something...
I originally liked Lumity (only because She-ra lowered my standards), but since the showrunner is too scared of being accused of "baiting", Amity now has to remind the audience she's gay in every episode. Lumity is 90% endgame anyway, they're literally freaking out over the mere possibility of someone shipping Luz with a boy, that's just childish. Also pretending the characters are siblings just so people won't ship them, like...isn't this "heteronormativity" they hate so much because they're implying a m/f relationship dynamic must have romantic undertones? Or any relationship for that matter, there isn't a character in this show who isn't labelled a "coded gay".
But at least in this season the male characters are actually getting some depths, the previous episode about Gus and his friendship with another boy was pretty good too. The show does have good elements, just ignore the fandom.

I've been watching The Emperors New School on Disney +. I forgot that this was was actually father funny. Most of the episodes focus on Yzma trying to destroy Kuzco who's usually to lazy and selfish to do his work and hitting on Malina, his love interest. Just like the movie my favorite parts are Yzma and Kronk. The two work great together and their voice actors actually seem to be having fun recoding the lines. It does get annoying on how Kuzco learns to be less selfish on each episode only for it to reset later. I thought he learned that in the movie. Some of the running gags like Yzmas plan or Kuzcos doodles never get old. I'd say it's one of the underrated Disney cartoons. It only lasted 2 seasons (some have claimed this was due to Eartha's death.).

Let me guess, the "I'll be in my bunk" trope?
Some of them will never let Firefly die.

In all honesty in general I find forced romance subplots to be fairly unnecessary in most mediums. There's nothing wrong with them but they can just be an additional time sink that the plot as a whole suffers from with time dedicated to them. Owl House seems to be handling it well enough but the obsessives online are going to make Disney snap one of these days.

It's been all right giving male characters depth before that, Principal Bump could easily have been much more of a generic character but they put the effort in. There's just so few such characters in contrast to female ones that I suspect the fandom got complacent. Age difference alone probably put Gus out of the running which left the field fairly open for Amity. Then in comes a single male character and suddenly it's the ravening hordes needing to be corralled back into their pits before they start harassing children online for liking the idea of a different pairing or accusing fan artists of homophobia for anything depicting that.

Getting Kitt and Warburton to reprise their roles for an already funny double act seems like an easy win for them. As for his selfishness in the movie I think the school predates him becoming Emperor (never saw the series but it seems logical) so I assume the Disney explanation is he got amnesia through an Yzma attempt or a blow to the head and forgot everything he learned at some point between series end and the movie.

Spongebob: Maybe we should tell our guy about the phony imposter

Mr. Krabs: You looney loofa! He IS the imposter! Look at him! I bet he never changes his underpants!

Spongebob: I bet he bites whale bubbles!

Mr. Krabs: I bet his mom Bought him that hat! If that imposter wants a krabby patty we'll give him one! *starts adding volcano hot sauce to the krabby patty* Join me boy or you're fired!

Spngebob: It doesn't seem right....but it feels so good!

Dana Terrace, please please please make Luz x Hunter canon. Or better yet, have it be a threesome between Luz X Amity X Hunter so we can see the Twatterati's heads explode like in Scanners:

Snap: RUDY! You gotta draw something! With he chalk Rudy! draw something heavy!

*Draws a horseshoe that barley hurts Bully nerd*

Snap: A horseshoe?

Seriously does anyone besides me remember Chalkzone?
I remember this TV movie of the show where all the chalk characters got some weird disease that made them blow up like balloons, which was cured with a giant bottle of soda.

Yeah.

You know these people didn't watch the series until Lumity happened, since Luz was repeatedly thirsty af for several random background macho male characters.

So, is that Alex Hirsch guy doing anything, or is he a one hit wonder who's washed up? Also Ed, Edd n Eddy is the greatest cartoon ever, you're wrong if you say otherwise; Thank you.
He's doing another "conspiracy-like" show. Also, insert 9/11 joke about the title here.

So, is that Alex Hirsch guy doing anything, or is he a one hit wonder who's washed up?
Yeah as the person above just said, he’s the producer of a new show with another GF alumni and did some work alongside another GF alumni with Mitchells vs the Machines, so he probably has some work with Netflix once Owl House is over. OTOH his attempts at breaking into Hollywood haven’t been as successful and he’s far from rising hotshot animator he was when GF was airing.
Also Ed, Edd n Eddy is the greatest cartoon ever, you're wrong if you say otherwise; Thank you.
You’re implying anyone would argue such a basic fact.

Correction: was.

Ed, Edd Eddy turned to shit in later seasons. The first 4 seasons were great but the last two were dumb.

Plus, the specials were kind of lame except for the Valentine’s Day one, that was funny.

And the movie was dumb. Did not make me laugh at all.
