Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

But militant shippers get too personally and emotionally involved in it that it almost feels like they're trying to live vicariously through a fictional character, regardless of sexuality.
That’s exactly it.

A lot of fans and animator are trying to live their lives through fictional characters. That’s why you see so many stans for certain characters.

I had a feeling the new Proud Family was doomed from the start. The animation gave me hope that it would be good but that feeling is gone now.

I remember it was stated that they were Republicans in the original. The reboot should have an episode where Oscar is revealed to be one leading him to being cancelled and being called an Uncle Tom. Penny then has to defend her dad's honor even if he's pushed out by the community. I don't think the writers would ever do that though.

Honestly I'm amaze of how many Black Republicans there were in media years ago The Proud Family, Uncle Phil, Carlton, the dad from Sister Sister. I wouldn't be shocked if Carl from Family Matters was a republican too. What's interesting too is none of these characters were protreyed as sell outs either

Off topic again, and I couldn't decide if this belonged here or in the "Grinds My Gears" topic, but does it annoy anyone else when you're looking up videos or articles like "Underrated Cartoons of the 1980s" (or whatever decade)... and the list includes a lot of anime?

I mean I'd be fine if it were stuff like Voltron or Robotech which actually did air on US television back then, but when they start including stuff like Fist of the North Star which never aired on US or UK television at all, its retarded and makes me wanna punch people.

I'll be looking forward to my autism and MATI awards, but I just felt like venting about this.

In fairness, anime is literally just cartoons from another country. Just because it has a distinct name doesn't mean it's not a cartoon anymore.

Did the original creators of the proud family have...anything to do with this monkey shined reboot?
Unfortunately... Yes

I saw it coming the instant they announced this and said the blond black girl would be "woke".

If this had been the original run, she would have been the butt of a joke. But given this is a reboot it was obvious she would be the "enlightenment" annoying brat.

Unlike that show, In real life no sane adult would care that much about literal kids playing the latest fad. But here we are...

Oh, and the white girl apologizes to her friends for dating the black guy. Friends do not apologize for talking about her the way they did, only that they didn’t invite her to the party.

Said black guy does not even have a voiced line, she breaks up with him offscreen, and woke girl calls him “Kanye” as an insult.

This was basically the writers room for The Proud Family reboot:

In this case, the black writers were trained by the higher ups to say this. They even know that black people do not talk like this in real life, even when going through resentment.

Prince of Bell Air even had one or two episodes about Phil and Carlton being considered sell-outs for acting too white (i.e being successful through completely legitimate means and being well-spoken) and pointing out how even your own people will trip you up for not 'acting as you people should'.

And then the reboot would go on to go 'No actually, Carlton and Phil WERE sellouts for acting too white!'

And in those episodes the black people calling them sell outs are the ones in the wrong. You don't see anything like that these days

Context.

Also, don’t look up the reboot.

I love this scene and Carlton's speech. It really fits well when you compare the fraternity to BLM in that scene. Everything Carlton says is what the "uncle Toms" say to BLM.
I know, that's what I was saying. Uncle Phil's frustrated speech was cutting.

Yeah the reboot ruins everything that made the original great!! Will Smith is the real Sell Out in the end of the day considering he was involved in that reboot and was fine ignoring everything that was said in the original. Same with the Proud Family creator. They became sell outs and ignore their original messages to pander to the BLM crowd.

the only good thing about modern reboots is situations like this where we can compare an original show and its revived husk to see just how much our society has regressed in-between both
