Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I'm actually tired of "bitching about wokeshit" for now. Mostly due to the fact all the places doing it are fucking cratering. Let them keep chasing rainbows and unicorns off a fucking cliff. 🚬

Art Style looks cool but it gives a loud house/casagrandes but heroes vibe.

Makes me wish Thunder and Lightning became a series

The DC Nation was so good. It was OhYeah! Cartoons good. But looking at all the wasted potential they left on the cutting room floor, tricking old TT fans into thinking voting for the "New" TT Shorts would bring the old show back and shaming them over time for wanting more action and less "comedy" back just bums me out. If they were honest about what greenlighting the "New" TT Shorts would entail, I would've wished, this, Amethyst Princess of Gemworld and Plastic Man get the go ahead instead.

Especially Plastic Man. He was voiced by Tom Kenny, animation was nostalgic yet new and had 6 fucking shorts and a whole pilot! Like a snappier, more focused Freakazoid.
(this is only 2 of 6 the rest are on jewtube soon to be pajeettube)
I wonder if this got the red light due to expenses? It's why we didn't get lots of shows like Korgoth.

I almost feel like making this

That's why whenever I pop my head in here I prefer to sperg about a classic.

On that note, what are some Kiwis favorite cartoons you never hear anyone discuss? Divide it up by decade (2000s, 1990s, 1980s, 1970s, you get the drill).

My particular brand of autism will make me pay most attention to anything from before 1998. Gotta be honest that was around the time I started hating western animation. People here are talking about the new Powerpuff, but I never even thought the original was all that good (even if the girls were kinda adorable). I just never liked how suddenly Western Animation pivoted towards three-shorts comedy format (this also being why I never liked Spongebob). Stuff that had more serious drama was my style. Give me Thundercats or Jonny Quest any day of the week.

..... (Skykiii says he never liked Powerpuff Girls, and yet he can never forget the one monkey who was gonna conquer the world using sinister sauce).

Early 2000's stuff really spoke to me. Megas XLR was my jam back in the day. Shame it ended so soon, but I suppose it's better than wearing out its welcome. Also, double shame that there's no home media release. I was actually thinking about watching it again for old times sake, but I think in order to do that, I'd have to take to the high seas.

Sure. I mean we already brought up puppets so why not?
Then, yeah, the show above is heavily underrated. Made by Danger Productions, the same guys who'd go on to help make the first Clayfighter game and Claymates - spawned from a series of bumpers ABC aired on Saturday mornings:

And honestly, for a series with that kind of origin, Bump in the Night is awesome. I wish more series were made with claymation.

Good times are here again.

i wish could share your optimism, but im an old crank now. All i can do is hold the pices of what once was in my fingers and...try and visualize those times as they were. even if the mind does a little...embellishing to suit ones wants.

While on topic anyone a fan of Celebrity Deathmatch?
Ahhh man that show. It can be a little hard to rewatch some episodes though. Sure some celebs like jack black and Steve o are still talked about case they're still acting and some like siquorney weaver and Linda Hamilton are...kinda still big names but who's gonna know who lil romeo and lil bow wow were unless you where there when they were still relevant?

I hate that when these shows make these characters, they have to make this their ENTIRE character. They never have any other imagery or activity associated with them.
The problem is that the people working on stuff like Moon Girl don’t know how to make interesting, compelling, or likable characters.

Most of those people are narcs with no hobbies or interests and a giant ego to compensate for that.

That's why their OCs are more than often sues and self-inserts.

Same here. Last year when I heard there was finally going to be a Chip n Dale's Rescue Rangers movie, my reaction was skepticism... no way a movie coming decades too late was gonna hold up.

Then I heard that movie apparently did a Who Framed Roger Rabbit deal...

..... I never did see that movie, by the way. So can someone spoiler it for me and tell me exactly how bad it was? Did it even have the classic theme song?

Literally the only thing anyone remembers about the Chip & Dale movie is that Zipper impregnated Gadget 42 times. And now has a black man's voice for no reason at all.

My niece actually told me that in the new movie "Zipper and Gadget have kids." My first reaction was like "Wait... you mean... with each other?" She laughed and said yes, and I thought she was joking.

Like, of all the people for Gadget to end up with.... the fly? Not to bring back Scooby Doo discussion but that would be like if Velma ended up marrying Scooby.

That and the speculation that if Chris wasn't in jail he'd be watching it religiously and using it for more "da merge is real!" Bullshit.

(All the English 4chan thread vids got [OMITTED] for "violating YouTube's policy on hate speech")

It's not just that though. It's the bizarre spiteful mockery of what happened to the voice actor of Peter Pan or that scene where a bunch of uncanny lifeless 3d models all voiced by Seth Rogan insult Robert Zemeckis's movies for being uncanny and lifeless.

Who was that poster who was worried about the Lilo & Stich live action remake?

Because I’m sorry.
Ffs, It's a shame to have this film ravaged by Disney's lack of creativity pandering with endless remakes, reboots, cash In's sequels but considering how they seem to be adamant about doing these all of there major movies sadly this is something we're going to have to put up with it for a while. At the very least the negative reception of the recent Pinocchio film could indicate that at least public interest has waned so they might be staving of it but its still shitty.

Quoting myself from months ago:
Fuck it, here is a comprehensive list of all the references I can remember in the film because this is likely the only reason people are interested.
  • Movie begins with a school scene. In the school you can see character designs reminiscent of Mickey Mouse cartoons, The Simpsons, and Daria.
  • In the school scene, Chip has a Knight Rider lunch box
  • Talent show includes a Transformer.
  • Chip & Dale get their start being dancing extras on Full House
  • Chip & Dale get split up because Dale stars in a James Bond spoof.
  • Convention includes Rey and Kylo Ren rats, an anime girl, and I believe a Transformer.
  • Dale is at a convention, here we get 4 prominent character cameos. Ugly Sonic, Marvel’s Tigra, Beauty & The Beast’s Lumier, and Bloo from the live action Jungle Book.
  • Cut to Chip’s home which has a few references. The most obvious is live action Alvin & the Chipmunks playing, which Dale scoffs at as they are selling out with CGI and rap, this becomes a plot point later. His fridge contains items with Fog Horn Leghorn and Ice Age’s Scrat. Here we also see Flounder from the Little Mermaid go missing.
  • Dale leaves his play later in the film and we get a bunch of references. Chun Li and Squidward have stars. Baby Fast & The Furious and Batman vs ET are on bill boards.
  • Batman vs ET gets a full scene in the film. Mr Natural is also a billboard.
  • Police scene has cars designed like the Pixar characters
  • Police chief designed like Dumby and extra cops are the donut characters from Sugar Rush in Wreck It Ralph.
  • Scooby Doo name drop when Dale tries to convince Chip they are detectives.
  • Cut to the uncanny valley scene and there are Cats, the CGI abominations, fighting in an alley. A line about the Polar Express is present.
  • The evil facility is melting Shrek shampoo to create port-o-potties.
  • In the sewer, a Rapunzel toy is used to try and save the duo.
  • A LEGO LesMisarables build board in background after sewer.
  • Duo meets up with black girl cop who name drops Nickelodeon, Peppa Pig, and Paw Patrol in her backstory. Simply put, Peppa went missing and Paw Patrol attacked chief.
  • The bathhouse scene has two. Randy Marsh and Scrooge McDuck are bathing when they go in the vents.
  • Cut to the first bust, and more references galore. Police chiefs name drop Rugrats. They find an image of Garfield. Machine can transform characters into the art styles of DC animated films, Rick & Morty, and the Simpsons. Wall of parts includes Jimmy Neutron hair, Samurai Jack’s Sword, Ahh Real Monster’s Ickis’ mouth, a Smurf hat, Sora’s hair and key blade, etc.
  • After leaving Police Station, a political ad for Beavis from Beavis & Butthead can be seen.
  • Chase scene back at the convention has tons of references. Cosplay of Pickle Rick, Fat Thor, and a LEGO man are present. Voltron and Indiana Jones have booths. He-Man and Skeletor are signing autographs, and MLP characters are running down the hall way. When Seth Rogen’s character is knocked out, he first meets live action Pumba, then Kung Fu Panda’s Mantis and Monsters Vs Aliens Bob do the Seth Rogen laugh. Paul Rudd is also there for the awful Aunt Man joke.
  • Peter Pan gets transformed by machine to have Woody’s leg and Wreck It Ralph’s arm. Potentially also Iron Giant’s leg and head from an Aristrocat.
  • Bootleg films include Winnie the Pooh, the Simpsons, and Aladdin staring Pete.
  • Jurassic Park reference as monster Peter roars while a torn banner falls.
  • when they free the toons a few things can be seen: Bambi with a color palette from My Life as a Teenage Robot’s Jenny, an Adventure Time design, a Fred Flinstone inspired design, a Johnny Test design, Peter Griffin’s legs, and a purple Gumball Waterson.
  • Darkwing Duck makes a cameo to shout about how he wants a reboot before closing.
  • Credits have Vin Diesel Star in a Rescue Rangers Fast and The Furious, a Disney Afternoon Smash Bros., Aunt Man starring Paul Rudd, etc.
Please feel free to add if I missed any.
