Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I was recommended a bunch of Disney Channel shows from the new era and I looked into them and this is probably weird but wtf is up with these clumps of hyperspecific nationalities?
Big City Greens is pretty nice, they don't get all weird like that. Kiff is also pretty inoffensive, no real nationalities whatsoever because they're all animals and other weird creatures.

Molly had a breakdown over not being "Thai" enough, but doesn't seem to give a shit about her Irish half.
Her dad also comes off as a massive cuck, so it's not surprising he doesn't give a shit about his own side of the family's culture.

I also did autistically notice Molly was super involved in the Hanukkah episode with Libby and it got into the religious background of it. But in the Christmas episode, Libby the Jew didn't even bother to show up and the episode doesn't even remotely touch on the religious aspect of the holiday. That second one is assuredly nothing, but you just never know these days.
I think a similar thing happened in Amphibia, where a character talks about Christmas without mentioning The Nativity

Goddamn, I miss the old days of Jake Long; American Dragon, and Juniper Lee.
I feel you, dude.

People today have no idea how to make a diverse cartoon or diverse characters without woke bullshit.

I can name four cartoons that do it better:

1. Captain Planet

2. Static Shock

3. Codename Kids Next Door

4. Kim Possible

God, I miss those shows.

I think Velma was the point where a lot of people really started wondering how often cartoon creators are self inserting themselves and use their creation to live out fantasies or vent over people and other personal experiences they hated.
Which is honestly very dumb.

The whole self-insert thing to live out your fantasies or vent out your personal bullshit is just lame.

He's incredible at consistency and movement, but, I think a problem with a lot of his movies is that nothing ever rests. The characters and the props never stay still unless they're painted in. And on top of that the colors of his movies were always way too muddy and desaturated, it makes them nauseating to watch sometimes. Like we can't just have a character answer the phone, it has to be balancing on four books and they have to get their neck caught in the wire and then everything falls over.

He fixed this in his later stuff but by then it was too little too late. Also did anything ever become of that Dragon's Lair thing or is that just stuck in limbo forever? I don't even blame him he's pushing 90 but I never heard anything about it after a while.
The problem with don bluth movies imo is that he wants to make 6 hour epics while giving 0 fucks that he's limited to 1 and a half hours. A lot of his movies have the issue where they are ultra compressed and blaze through plot points and character progression at lightning speed leaving a lot of it implied to be happening offscreen.

Everytime I watch one of his movies I'm left with this weird hollow feeling that I just watched the highlights reel from a much larger story, kinda like an anime movie compressing 100 episodes into a 2 hour flick.

I think he'd be much happier if cartoon miniseries were more popular for him to reliably work on.

Oh I remember that episode, it genuinely felt like disney was taking the piss on purpose, the entire b plot is HP asking to know what christmas is about and getting 800 different answers none of which involve christ.

I'll add on to that list.
  • Teen Titans (the original animated series)

  • Justice League and its sequel Unlimited
    • I fucking love these show btw. You can imagine my immense displeasure with what Young Justice evolved into.
  • Hot Wheels Battleforce 5
    • Though I have always found it funny that the Asian kid from Thailand is called Zoom Takezumi. It's a bit like Joe Higashi from Fatal Fury for me, who is actually from Japan. They are both silly lovable goobers though.
  • Total Drama (Not the reboot because it's shit)
Edit: formatting.

That’s one of my favorites, my dad and I watched it all the time when I was younger.

But I did see you type out El Tigre
Changed it, because Kim Possible had a slightly more diverse cast.

Acceleracers is better

Well if it helps i enjoy the Acceleracers series just as much.

Will forever be sad that they canned the last two films.

On the other hand, Team Hot Wheels or whatever the fuck it was called can fuck off..
In all honesty I never thought Battle Force 5 was bad, I just could never get into the whole “Power Rangers in cars” thing the show had going for it. It had some pretty nice computer animation, though. The whole BF5 vs WR/Acceleracers thing is just too funny.

Also I heard we were supposed to get 4 more movies, and one of the plot points involved transforming cars (which were repurposed into Battle Force 5 and its toyline), Banjee Castillo and other World Race drivers like Alec Wood and Dan Dresdon being Silencerz, and meeting Porkchop’s Mother.

Also I get the changing of times and all that, but Hotwheels cartoons for kids now are just painfully generic looking. I genuinely pity them for any kids into Hotwheels will think of that as definitive Hotwheels media. Hell, I pity kids for all the cartoons they’re growing up watching now. You never know how good you had it until it’s gone.

True. As an 80's kid, you can understand how I feel.
