Guys, remind me, who was the moron who green-lighted this show?
Cannot specifically say, but it is nothing more than a vanity project for Mindy Kaling. I believe her family is pretty well connected in Hollywood, so she had some weight to throw around in addition to her comedy career. Said career got rejuvenated thanks to Netflix acquiring The Office in 2019.

That same faggot who cancelled Coyote vs. Acme and other things just for a "tax write-off" had approved comedian/actress Mindy Karling's idea
I said this back when. Velma first made its rounds around here but if they wanted a "mature" and "darker" take on Scooby-Doo why didn't they just adapt the Scooby-Doo apocalypse comic

I'm not the biggest fan of DCs Hannah barbera beyond, most of it was either try hard edgy crap trying to cash on on trends, *Cough wacky Raceland cough* or gladd award bait (huckleberry hound and the openly, blatantly gay snagglepuss) but having read read the comic I see why it lasted longest out of all the HBB books, it's both so over the top ridiculous that it's actually funny but also surprisingly gripping and well written.

Velma takes itself too seriously while being a run of the mill "adult" cartoon, that thinks all you need to appeal to a modern audience is tons of sex and nudity, with some gore for shock value while also ticking the woke boxes (hates white people, blackwashed characters, strong independent woman lead)

Apocalypse knows its a stupid concept that shouldn't work so it just rolls with it and goes over the top in a fun way. Plus the characters are much better written than their Velma versions.

Probably because Velma was never meant to be a Scooby Doo project. It had the license hastily slapped on because studios will not fund original IP. More than likely, it was just a cartoon Mindy Project where Kaling plays herself, a struggling Indian-American women who had to confront the sexism and racism of her “progressive” industry. It is also probably her living her high school fantasy of getting white cock seeing how Fred was handled and her history of sexually assaulting male co-stars.

The entire series is the ultimate celeb vanity project. The only odd part about it is that Kaling herself is really not a big deal for such an honor. At least Mike Tyson or Amy Poehler had long legacies/were big at the time of their celeb shows, Mindy has her show which seemed to just die off and the fleeting The Office stardom, of which she really wasn’t a huge player in.

Don't forget the time they had a shitty "realistic" Flintstones comic about modern day civil wars. I just cannot stand modern DC publications past 2009 altogether
Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson's Mysteries is a show I still miss, but I miss Norm MacDonald even more. (:_(

Was that the one with "Barney, we participated in genocide." and Fred's catchphrase being a way of dealing with PTSD?
Yes, and when I first heard of it, I thought it was some fanmade shitpost, but it's real. Like how Fred's iconic catchphrase, "Yabba-Dabba-Doo" is now being used as a martyr

There is a reason for all that though. Unlike Keith griffin and jm demitess who might have been fans of Scooby-Doo as kids the writer of Flintstones beyond admitted they he openly hated the Flintstones and only took the writing job to mock both it and be his personal soapbox.

Like....wow say what you want about Seth MacFarlane and yes the guy does have his head up his own ass a lot when he's not singing or working on the Orville. Vut at least he liked the Flintstones as a kid and saw them as in influence on his type of humor later in life.

That Seth MacFarlane Flintstones reboot never happened so we'll never know how good or bad it could have been...but at least it wasn't made ti deliberately shit on the Flintstones out of schadenfreude.

Somewhat tangentially related to the thread, but a trailer for Zachary Levi’s Harold and The Purple Crayon was uploaded a few days ago. Given that Harold was known for his animated shorts, thought it should be posted here:

According to some YouTube comments, a veteran from Blue Sky (Ice Age, Rio) will be working on the film. Upon looking it up, the director is Carlos Saldanha, who did all the Ice Age and Rio films. He is also bringing in Jemaine Clement, who played Nigel in Rio.

So it's going to be absolute ass and shit on the memories of anyone who actually cares while simultaneously being absolutely boring to anyone who never heard of it. Great jerb homsar.

He actually directed the two Ice Age sequels (both the Meltdown and Dawn of the Dinosaurs). He was the co-director in the first, and was never involved in fourth and fifth as he was busy with both Rio movies and Ferdinand during these times.

Still, the new Harold movie looks bad. And it's a shame that when Blue Sky closed, people have wasted their development with utter garbage

Seth MacFarlane's incarnation of The Flintstones would've been kino, but sadly that's a never ever (:_(
