I don't think the average person cares about or even notices the melaninization of media. The average American will call out trannies in media since normalfags don't care about being called transphobic and sometimes even homophobic. However, they are sensitive to accusations of racism. For them, criticizing miscegenation is racist, and racism is blasphemy to modern society.

The style's trying to appeal to too many specific groups at once, riding on the backs of Millennial nostalgia, Gen Z seminostalgia/memes, and Gen Alpha being children. Like Megamind 2, the film itself lacks merit and the story doesn't have much of a reason to exist beyond corporate greed.

Visually, they've pushed the eyes closer together and gone excessive with the high saturation. It does appeal to kids, and to be honest if that's all they did then it would be okay, but they're clearing trying to push as much 'relatable' humour that dates it painfully. The mirror bit is just 'haha social media! haha shrek! look shrek looking sexy haha!' And the forced introduction of Zendays in one of those specific 'has to look like the actor' models. Her ogre doesnt need highlights, or an actual troll head, it isnt cohesive with the design of the ogres at all. She's clearly being used as a marketing ploy on, of all things, sexualisation. In an actual children's movie about ogres, where the whole message from the first one is looks don't matter.

The only character I have faith in is Shrek himself. He looks tired, unhappy, he looks like the kind of dad who's disappointed in what his family has become. If its going to take any direction I hope they go Toy Story 4 and have Shrek just flat out leave, go find another swamp etc.

Because it is. It's the same reason people would have got sick of the MCU even if they hadn't fucked it up completely: when you refuse to let your characters have a forever after and keep ass-pulling reasons to bring them back it removes all stakes and the audience can't engage.

I think that's exactly why she keeps getting roles. She's the irl equivalent to all the fucked up female character models in video games, where they have to be just ugly enough to not re-enforce "unattainable beauty standards".

Damn, these designs are such a mismatch mess, thank god the idea got scraped all together. The head is too big for the lean body, makes me think it's like a mask or something. Again #NotmyShronk

If this is Shrek's canon teen look then it makes me wonder how he got such a glow up later on. Could it be that he got super buff thanks to the special ogre diet that consisted exclusively out of human eyeballs? We may never know... :geek:

Hit the nail on the head with why "the chart says" should have died last decade. The hacks behind this crap probably browse or ask the interns from colleges, "you there! What's trending on that darn ticking tocker?" They get a cursory response of the latest flavor of the month influencer, a compilation of 90s/y2k nostalgia photos set to aquatic ambience, and celebrity gossip so they scramble to cobble together what they think can make money.


It's frankly not much different that what hollowoo thinks ai will replace them with. Only ai can process a spit out modern script faster than a team of writers.
