My theory is they want DEI writers because they think it makes them more money somehow. After eliminating more than 50% of their hiring pool for arbitrary diversity reasons, combined with any of the good "diverse" writers being snatched up by other companies due to their high demand, it becomes very slim pickings. They have no choice at that point but to hire some retard with little experience writing shows. To make matters worse their idea of a 'diversity hire' also involves hiring people who are obnoxiously politically driven which tends to turn their show into the writers personal outlet for their opinions.

Focus group testing and committees. It'll be shit like
"By making a character non-binary we can get an additional 1% viewership based on polling"
"Single black mothers aged 20-35 said they were 2% more likely to watch if at least 1/3 of the main cast is black"
"wine moms aged 35-45 will be 1.5% more likely to watch if we make the male characters all incompetent"
"If we do this and this, male latino twinks between 17 and 30 say they would be 1.5% more likely to watch"
etc. etc.

What executives see is all of that shit adding up to a huge percentage increase in possible ratings, or "the modern audience". What everyone else sees is that these people are saying they're 1% more likely to watch the show than the 0% chance they were going to bother in the first place, and that by doing all of that they've made their original audience far less likely to be interested since the show/movie/game/etc is now no longer what got them interested in it to begin with. Combine that with shitty writers who have no concept of anything interesting because nothing actually interesting has ever happened in their lives or around them, and this is what we get. I guess somehow the coof was enough of a delay to knock some sense into the execs there to abort this shit.

I've heard people say Battle Angel Alita and Sin City movies were good, but I doubt those people read the original comic/manga or saw the previous animated movie for Alita. Still, I feel the same way you do for the most part.

I simply don't understand why you would make a live action version of something that wasn't meant to be realistic in the first place. That's part of the charm, and you're giving that up for nothing.
