The Runaway Pants episode of Billy and Mandy is probably one of the best episodes of the show. From the Twilight Zone reference to them having Grim be a replacement P.E. teacher because he scared the original teacher to literal death because of his body, it’s just a very great episode.
I think Rod Serling would have a laugh if he were still alive to watch this.
I have to admit, Bill Wray being on this reboot is a good thing. Having one guy from the original series will probably ensure it will not be all terrible.

The destruction of John K.'s reputation has, thankfully, led to a reevaluation of the Games episodes. It used to be nobody would dare to praise them. Now we can appreciate the fine work of Chris Reccardi on this, "Hard Times for Haggis," "Ren's Brain"...
The Hilda movie "The Mountain King" drops on Netflix December 30th. I really enjoyed the second season so this is something I'll definitely be logging into Netflix for.
I never saw this show marketed back when it was new. I still have the animation magazine issue that talked about it calling it one of the 'Ren and Stimpy' rip offs. I find it extremely odd that Kyle Carrozza likes this, but loathes Ren and Stimpy aside from the fact that this was Disney's half assed attempt of trying to cash in on that style of cartoon.

Considering he was also on board for a podcast discussing the series (which also included Kopp and several other crew members), I'd say so.
At any rate, I feel like the similarities between the two are rather surface-level. If anything, while the visuals have a definite Ren and Stimpy feel (mainly due to the fact that many R&S veterans worked on the show), the actual writing feels more like it's emulating the Golden Age cartoons of the 40s and 50s. The first two Pith Possum segments are actually parodies of the Fleischer Superman shorts, for example.

One Crazy Summer is actually a pretty underrated 80s comedy, if I do say so myself. These little animated segments are a somewhat large part of the reason why. Plus, how could you go wrong with Savage Steve Holland, the same guy who brought us Better Off Dead?

But the thing is, this show also had R&S people on it - including Lynne Naylor. Whenever you see a show that seems to rip-off R&S, look and you'll find there were Ren and Stimpy people involved.
(The other thing being that Disney was trying to diversify its TV animation division and took obvious inspiration from what was popular. Gargoyles kind of owes a debt to Batman: TAS.)

Aside from Lynne Naylor there was Eddie Fitzgerald and Mike Fontanelli - two of John's biggest enablers, incidentally - who also worked on such world-renowned masterpieces as Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and The Wacky World of Tex Avery.
How about that. One cat and dog leads to another cat and dog show from some of the same people. Interesting how working on a successful show would lead to others to work on something that people would consider as crap. I know people like Adventures, I know I'm one of them. There are people who hate Wacky World. There was a rumor that it was supposed to be similar to Animaniacs with Tex's characters(like Droopy, Wolfie, and Red) only for WB to not give them the rights to use said characters. Dic reworked the show with rejected pitches that DIC themselves tried pitching to other studios at the time. I haven't seen anyone talk about this particular bit to confirm or deny it if it was true.
