Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

On one hand, most of the shows that were axed by HBOMax look like garbage to me, ugly cartoons almost no one will miss. On the other, it proves how disposable animated shows are to the execs at networks and streaming services and that should alarm anyone who works in the animation field. The network execs in charge of overseeing animated series often seem to have the least respect for the medium and anyone who works in it.

There was no real animation industry in the USSR before the war. Soyuzmultfilm started up in 1936, but then the war came around and the animators had to evacuate behind the Urals. There was also no color film in the USSR before the war either - they took it from the Germans after the Allied occupation began. (Harsh, you may say, but when you go on a genocidal invasion some things are fair game.)

There are two reasons why these films were so good and memorable. For one, the animators had relatively free hands (there were still things you couldn't do, as there is here at Western companies) because their films brought in awards and prestige to the government. And for the other, well, everyone has to be entertained, and the officials in charge knew that. There were many fine comedies made in the Soviet Union that everyone in modern Russia still knows and loves, but you never hear about them in the West. Same with all the other Eastern Bloc countries.
Does anyone know about Nu Pagadi? Loved it as a child. It's about a wolf trying to catch a hare.

I gotta ask, just how fucked will the new season of Invincible be? Because the main concerns (at least for me) is that:
-The overall mystery of why Nolan did what he did is gone now, so the main hook and draw of the show is nonexistent.
-The show is popular as all hell, what with the help of that one scene becoming a meme, so it wouldn't be surprising if the writers started phoning in more (unsuccessful) comedic moments in the show.
-Mark's sheboon girlfriend who's name currently escapes me is bar none the worst aspect of what season 1 had to offer and was a completely unreasonable and unlikable cunt the moment she revealed she knew Mark was a superhero. So I would expect more dumb shit like that showing up in the next season in some form or another.
-There's a lot of side story setups for characters that (depending on how they handle it) could easily become cluttered and overbloated as the show goes on.

Currently keeping my expectations tempered as I've seen countless shows that were once considered "great" soon take a nosedive once they became popular or something happened during production that hampered their potential.

-Seth Rogan is still involved.

I have a feeling will go down the same way the Castlevania animated show went. Decent start with a big nose dive at the end wile shiting on the source material.

Rogen is like one of several "executive" producers on Invincible and other projects - most of the time "executive" producer is a title that just means you invested in a project. His importance and amount of creative input (which is probably near to nothing) in these projects is grossly overestimated by all of the Rogen defenders who pop up online to screech at anyone who has the nerve to say something like "Sausage Party was garbage." or making fun of him for saying having your car broken in to is just part of living in the big city so don't get upset "they left a cool knife in my car!"

Yet another crosspost from the HBO Max/Discovery Griefing Thread:
Batman: The Caped Crusader, The Amazing World of Gumball Movie, that one animated Urkel holiday special, Bye Bye Bunny (the Looney Tunes musical that they announced not even a week ago), Merry Little Batman, and The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie all got the axe.

What gets me is Bye Bye Bunny. Why even announce the fucking thing in the middle of all this, if it wasn't a sure thing?

The article states that they're still in production and will be shopped elsewhere, just not for HBO Max. I'm assuming Cartoon Network or some other streaming service will pick them up. Maybe.
What exactly are they trying to do to the service? It was fine the way it was. Is this a Producers-esque scheme?

Apparently all the cancellations are probably meant to pay back debt that Warner Bros has to owe, but in doing these actions, Zaslav pissed off lots of people in the industry. There's also the possibility that there would be legal troubles but I'll hold my breath on that since corporate assholes seemingly get away with anything.
