Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

It really does seem like they've wrecked the show in every possible way for every possible audience. Not even tumblr or the bronies are going to like this shit.

I've heard kids disliking this reboot. Kids as young as 6 years old. Their target auidence didn't like it. I've even seen posts on tumblr about it.

Thinking of the issue with not rehiring the original VA's for the girls reminded me of the late Joe Alaskey. Ever since Mel Blanc passed on, WB put in a set of rules governing how the LT characters would be voiced from then on that basically nobody could be the defacto Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and so-on. Joe felt since he had previously worked closely with Mel, such as on 1988's Who Framed Roger Rabbit, he felt he was more than qualified to do these guys, but was often passed aside for someone else. I feel like the same issue is happening here with CN simply not wanting to re-hiring those three people, possibly as a means to not pay more than they want by going with a new set of girls for the roles (however the union works).

I think one reason is because CN wants fresh meat, hence why the new voice actresses are so young and inexperienced. Not that this is much of a good excuse anyway, since Tara Strong, E.G. Daily and Cathy Cavadini are still plenty capable of voicing the girls. Of course, this also defies the logic of bringing back others and just not them.

That's the part that gets me. They have no problem with Tom Kenny and the others but immediately throw Strong, Daily and Cavadini under the bus simply because they want that "fresh meat" and whatever they feel the viewers would be into (now I'm thinking of Jetsons The Movie replacing Janet Waldo with Tiffany for the role of Judy Jetsons, of course that was for completely different reasons).

I feel like this reboot of PPG could go down as a litmus test for how bad a reboot could get based on several key factors. You could write an excellent oral/written essay stating the many kinds of reboots we've been seeing over the past decade or so and come up with the strengths and weakness each one had based on production, writing, demographics, etc.

Honestly, this happening feels like CN just being lazy, like they're doing with the animation (I took a look in the credits, it's not the same studio as before).

And the actresses, while not terrible, are far from good. And pretty much serve as pale imitations of the originals. Though it does make me question why they brought the others back and not the three for the girls. Yeah, CN's got their "reason", but it feels like it's covering up for something else.

I'm looking at a /co/ thread discussing the reboot. Despite being mostly despised, critics and parental groups liked it enough to were they might fund 2 more seasons by the end of this week.

Yes, but what about the ratings? Are people actually tuning in? Ratings are the measure of a show's popularity, you know.

I found them. Info is from this website.

0.3... Now, I am no expert in what TV ratings mean, but that ain't good...

But how does it stack up with other shows on the same channel?

I just rechecked the top 100 daily listings on that site which is where I found it. It was the only one from that channel on there. It made it into the top 100, albeit barely. And the numbers are dropping.

All that hype and it barely makes the top 100. They've ordered 40 11-minute episodes for this season alone, and word of mouth is spreading about how bad it is, because the numbers are clearly dropping. I can only hope them ordering more episodes is just a rumor, because I saw no sources for this so far.

If it made it into the top 100, then it was the most successful show on Cartoon Network this week.

They'll probably order more episodes.

I wonder how much of that was old fans checking in just because of the name, only to be disappointed. If so, those numbers will drop off when any residual hype evaporates.

I only have this Tumblr post to go on, but someone checked how the other shows did on that day. Compared to the other Shows on the channel, it did worse.

I don't know if it's the worst premiere but I just checked some other shows and it did worse than We Bare Bears (2.1), Steven Universe (1.86), Clarence (2.26), Adventure Time (2.5), Teen Titans Go (2.01) and Uncle Grandpa (2.16).

Well, there you have have it. It's a bomb. 1.5 million viewers.

Note: The decimal numbers are the general viewers as far as millions go, not the ratings. It's still lower than all of them, though.
