Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Since Scooby Doo's a recent topic in the thread, do you all have a favourite movie from the series? Hard mode: No Zombie Island.
Alien Invaders made me weepy when I was a kid, but I haven't watched it in years so I dunno how well it holds up.

But the 2002 live-action movie honestly weirdly holds up in some aspects. I think it's a fun teen-comedy mystery movie with a pretty good twist all things considered. It has an interesting production history, an interesting idea of "What if the Mystery Gang split up?" that I'm sure every fan wondered about while still expanding on character development (Daphne's "girl power" upgrade is not as cringy as it would've become now), and it was made by people who legit gave a damn about the IP even though it was originally written to be more adult-oriented. And hell, the original adult comedy might've actually been good had they kept it for all we know, but it was a different time, so I imagine it would've been more along the lines of American Pie than Scary Movie.

I dunno, I never hated the 2002 movie like other people did. I've just come to better appreciate it as time went on.

Witches ghost. watched it every Halloween as a kid. Tim curry as Ben ravencroft was his best villain rile after hexus in ferngully.

Though honestly I never got the hype for the hex girls....OK I know why now they're so popular as an adult but I mean in much more innocent days. They were okay, and I'm glad they haven't been overused in recent years they reappeared in IIRC what's new, mystery Inc, and one of the newer made for video movies.

Still I legit hope Velma doesn't get a hold of them that show will probably turn them into to total sluts and either tik tok or only fans stars instead of singers...or into troons.

Cause like the Sanderson sisters in hocus pocus the hex girls are insanely popular among troons.

Also I know it sounds weird but I have a soft spot for the crossover with kiss. If only cause it reminds me of all those cartoons based on celebrities hanna barbera made back in the day. (They actually DID work with kiss in their heyday but on a live action movie phantom of the park) I really felt like a throwback to the new scooby doo movies Era. "Today scooby-doo meets...Don Knotts, sandy Duncan, the three stooges, the addams family, the Harlem globetrotters, Sonny and Cher.

What about the sequel, Monsters Unleashed? I personally believe it's even better than the first, because it goes full bore into the whole campy "mystery" aspect of the franchise. The criticism of journalistic media (yes, really) is spot-on, and eerily prescient looking back. Plus, it invented the "powerful Shaggy" meme before it was cool.

Good picks. I've always had a soft spot for Reluctant Werewolf since I was a fan of the Wacky Races re-runs they'd show on CN, but I'm sure there's better picks out there. If you want some random Scooby content that's surprisingly good then check out the WWE films. Sounds shit, actually decent. I know, I was shocked too.

My favorite animated Scooby movie not named Zombie Island: Scooby Meets the Boo Brothers. The Boo Brothers themselves were pretty cool, if a little too reminiscent of the Three Stooges (which I think was the joke?), the police officer was pretty funny, the redneck dude who legit tries to kill Shaggy(!) is a highlight,

and his sister is a genuinely hot piece of ass for an 80s cartoon.

I still fucking laugh that Tim Curry was approached to be the villain in the live action movie, but refused because he hated Scrappy being in the movie, so instead he ended up being the villain of that 100 Frights game.

And they give a look to his sister who's remeniscent of Penny Gadget. Strange coincidence or is it a coincidence?

the Hanna barbera superstars 10 is what those were called. Among them included classics like the jetsons meet the flintstones and what is commonly called the Scooby doo trilogy. Which included Boo brothers, ghoul school, and reluctant werewolf.

I'd rate Reluctant werewolf last then Ghoul School and finally boo brothers. Honestly It's a shame we never say any of the superstars 10 characters again. The boo brothers haven't even gotten a cameo in almost 40 years and it wasn't until Ok ko did the ghoul school grimwood girls return. With all references to scooby doo removed of course....then again given the dunking on the franchise has been reciving and not just velma latley, maybe it's better off that way. 🤷‍♂️

Edit: we're almost at 500 pages we need something to mark the occasion.
