Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I would say the movie was the closest the show ever got to maximum potential but it cheats by effectively being a greatest hits of the early seasons, plus a genuinely great villain. The show killed itself when it decided the diamonds were misunderstood grandmas and not compelling villains.
I wouldn't say misunderstood, since they were still in the wrong and lost all their shit because of it. The joke of them being said overly doting relatives was certainly...a choice, though lol

Wouldn't that be what they call queerbaiting? Because it's not like they're actually gonna make any of them canon aside from lumity.

I think of Justice League Action as something akin to Batman Brave and the Bold. I get why some people may not like it but you cannot fairly say it just plain bad. It also gave us Mark Hamil Joker and James Woods Luthor.
It had a pretty fun take on Riddler. E. Nigma, Consulting Detective epidode shows that Riddler has gone straight and is now a detective. He's genuine about it but is still obsessive and egotistical. So you get him helping Wonder Woman and Green Arrow find Batman while insulting them at the same time. Aslo his reason to help is he resents that the Joker has stolen his method of leaving clues everywhere and wants to stop him.

God forbid we can't just have female friends anymore!
Totally canon….
Remember Tangled the series creator left to join the Daily Wire and honestly I see why.

Yep, something they actually did in the Batman comics for a bit (Riddler going straight and being a detective). No clue where that plotline went but it worked well in the cartoon.

As if I couldn't hate this day enough as it is.

Aren't they all underage?
It's not about the representation, it's about pandering to the coomer/troons.

Riddler going straight
Oh if only...given what I saw in that special...and apparently been a thing since the Gotham tv show.

And because i need...sonething positiveto round this all out.
"Oh, he'll come."
"Squidward I use your clarinet to unclog my toilet! "

"what?!"

So here's an autistic question.....

.... At what point does a show count as a Western Animation and what point does it count as an Anime?

I thought of bringing up a show called Dogtanian and the Muskehounds but that might technically be anime.

I'm also bringing this up because its something me and my sister debate about a lot. For example, she counts shows like Thundercats and Inspector Gadget as anime due to, essentially, the animation being done by Japanese people. But I argue that they're western cartoons because westerners do the majority of the legwork and really the only "anime" flavor they have to them is the visuals, while the plots and concepts and overall feel are entirely American.

Yeah, I know this is probably a stupid thing to even care about, but hey..... that's what the internet is for: overthinking retarded issues.

Anyway, whose side would you guys lean more towards? Mine or my sister's?

Hard to say. There are numerous Japanese Western coproductions that take clear points and influences from both cultures. In general I say who is target audience and who did majority of writing. Usually the best indicator of this is the original language as voice acting tends to be most important in setting timing, tone, jokes and so fort. It's the step when story really gets locked down and animation is based on it to match lip movement and other timings.

What defines anime to me are the story telling tropes and archetypes. While stuff like Inspector Gadget and many other cartoons where animated in Japan there storytelling is something that clearly came from the west. Things like Avatar The Last Airbender is sometimes called anime like but in reality if it was an actual anime there would be more violence, blood and fanservice.

It's kind of like comparing western theater to kabuki theater. Both are plays done on a stage but one is clearly a product of Japanese culture.
