Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Oh wow, at least when Teen Titans Go does it it's sort of clever (I'm sure not everyone will agree) but that looks like it's just trying to copy that style of humour but failing miserably.
They've been doing that since day one.

And honestly, as bad as TTG is. I'd still compare it favorably over neo-PPG because at least the actors are enjoying themselves. And (as much as I'm sure people will disagree on this) there's some bits of humor to be found.

EDIT: Since I don't feel like double posting, Imma plug TAS's riff on American Rabbit here:

This is kind of off-topic, but it does have to do with one of the greatest animated films ever made - and it is something I have to post here. I found this piece of news while trawling Reddit, and I feel disgusted hearing about this:

Fans, geeks and lovers of fantasy and animation - you need to hear this. Please spread the word about a predator in your community.

Seattle's Central Cinema is screening "The Last Unicorn" in June. The classic book and 1982 movie were written by Peter S. Beagle.

Here's how it's advertised: "THE LAST UNICORN w/ Connor Cochran. This special screening brings producer Connor Conlon to Central Cinema, including a Q&A with the one person who may know more about this film than any other breathing soul on this planet.”

Weird how it doesn't mention Peter, the creator, right?

Connor Cochran had nothing to do with making a 1982 movie that he gained control of in 2011. And while Cochran was Peter's "manager", Peter was forced to live in poverty, defrauded, and suffered physical elder abuse.

It's all in Peter's $52 million lawsuit against Cochran, which is being hidden from unsuspecting fans. There's 190,000 fans on a Last Unicorn Facebook page on lockdown, with all mentions deleted. They need to know.

Here's the kicker. The money from Peter's fans won't just fund Cochran's defense to block justice. He's also doing nuisance legal retaliation to double down on Peter's abuse. Cochran, a seasoned con artist and professional litigant, writes it with help from an ex-lawyer who lost his license for defrauding a literary estate.

PAYING FOR THE MOVIE PAYS FOR ABUSE. And believe it or not, it gets worse.

Cochran is working with Peter's kids in a bid to put conservatorship of Peter in their hands, under a pretext that he's senile. It's all about money. Peter's lawsuit gives records that Cochran tried to get doctors to fake evidence, and he is not senile, nor "alcoholic" (a unique accusation from Cochran alone), and in excellent health for age 77. He's sharp as a tack.

Peter continues to be an active creator. On May 28, he appeared as guest of honor at Balticon in Baltimore MD. He has a new novel coming out. He's not helpless - he's just a poor writer, while Cochran has the wealth of a movie and it's fans to exploit.

The screening should be picketed. At the VERY LEAST, fans should know about the predator among them. There's still time. Screenings start June 10.

Cochran is withholding Peter's share of sales of his works. People who paid should contact Peter's lawyer to help get an injunction.http://fansagainstfraud.com/peter-beagle-contact-lawyer

Peter's not alone. There's been numerous lawsuits against Cochran. The Last Unicorn Tour investors sued him when hundreds of thousands of dollars disappeared. There's 12 years of undelivered "pre-sales" to cheated fans - and Cochran is STILL doing it. This doesn't just hurt Peter. "Pre-sales" keep making new scam victims. There will be new victims at the upcoming screenings if they aren't told.

You write some of the best fantasy ever published... and this is what happens to you. Disgusting.

Peter never got his fair share.

Oh yeah, I heard about that shitshow when Dan from the Game Grumps did a cover of the song.

That is revolting. I'm sorry, but managing to get the writer's kids to turn against him is a dick move.

Fellow Kiwis who like and/or respect Western Animation, I have some actually great news for you:

iTunes, as well as Amazon's TV unit are now selling Disney Afternoon Shows. I don't have links, but a Google search and looking at the sites this stuff is on as well should be enough information, hopefully.

Spread the word and support this if you can.

Peace.

Given that Disney seems to treat its old TV shows (to say nothing of the 90s Marvel and Fox Kids shows they have) like redheaded stepchildren, it's a wonder this is even happening - I'd support it, but I'd prefer these things were on Netflix or Hulu or something. At least you don't have to buy an episode if you want to watch it.

Someone has to make money somewhere.

It's the movie for tryhards, written by tryhards.
Worst part is, the goddamn Annoying Orange of all things did the "talking food is murdered and eaten by people" better than Sausage Party did.

You know something went wrong when an old ass web series aimed at 10 year olds ends up funnier than a legit movie.

I'm not a fantasy fan, but this book is really good. It's really sad when artists get cheated like this, and even if he is in excellent shape, there are not many people who are going to believe a 77-year-old man. Several would just pass him off as 'senile', not knowing the stuff he has done.

I think this might be one of the single best shorts the Fleischers ever produced.

EDIT: I think I already posted this... but whatever, it deserves to be posted again:

You see why Charlie Adler is the greatest voice actor of his age?

I not sure if been talked about here yet, but any of you seen the loud house?
I seen it not like the greats or even like that funny but I still like it quite a bit if for two reason, the first for that great comic strip like art style that reminds me of alot of newspaper comics I used to read. The 2nd being the fact I find it sort of relatable with the middle child in a large family thing.

The creator of the series, Chris Savino, stated the work of Cliff Sterrett as his inspiration (the name "Sterrett" even shows up as a speaker I noticed).

Given the recent #brexit results, I'm reminded of an film produced by one British studio in the 1950's, calling for a united Europe during the early days of the Cold War, while obviously dated and obsolete (itself, a product of the American Marshall Plan in action), it's still quite a interesting, historic piece of what people had strive for, not to mention the artwork used...

Back in the 80's, my introduction to cartoons of my parents' generation came in the form of VHS (when it wasn't aired on TV). The UPA cartoons of the 50's was one of them, and one tape in particular had four Mr. Magoo cartoons from the Cinemascope era, which meant they were either pan & scanned (terribly) or presented in some sort of "Distort-O-Vision" simply because they couldn't be bothered to pan & scan them at all, so they just left them un-scoped (for years I thought Mr. Magoo was that thin). Now with the DVD set that had came out a couple years back, we can finally see these cartoons as they were meant to be seen, this one in particular always bugged me how cramped and awkward everything seemed as you couldn't make out everything happening on screen too well.

There's an interesting interview with Doug creator Jim Jinkins in the podcast Nick Animation that came out a few days ago, you don't really hear much about him these days:

I don't have time to watch the whole thing, but I heard he thinks the Nick version of Doug was better than the Disney one.

Does he say that here?
