Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I knew - IMMEDIATELY - as soon as they mentioned the French Revolution as the setting that literally no person on that writing staff would be able to:

A. Contain themselves and their POC fetish.

B. Handle it with any shred of deference or nuance to the complexities of that entire conflict in any of the small ways that MIGHT have been entertaining.

I was getting myself ready for a full on Marie Antoinette Draculina manipulating an incompetent Louis versus Robspierre the Vampire Rebel manipulating the boiling over of France's socioeconomic degradation just for the sake of some token 'Fuck bougies/#Resistance' plot. It was all RIGHT there. It would have been an entertaining eye-roller but not offensive in the least. Instead we got some dreamy nigger uprising. I should have known the very moment I saw they'd race-swapped Anette to play up the Caribbean heritage ( which at least made sense ) that they wouldn't be able to lay that card down and just let it be what it was.

I knew lightning wouldn't strike twice, but man...why the FUCK did it have to be MY favorite Belmont? Fuck this gay earth.

Little bit hard given who's the director for this

You know..the castlevannia series DID have entries that moved the setting from medieval Europe to the distant future. They were the really obscure and not so fondly remembered entries of the ds and gba but still if you wanted a castlevannia with pop singing jungle bunnies you could have used THOSE games to justify their existence....I'm not saying it would have what you're describing better just...more justified than fucking up the setting of Europe before America was even discovered.
But no one remembers those games. Everyone remembers the NES games, SNES games, and Symphony of the Night, so naturally instead of playing with those obscure concepts and making them cool like what Bruce Timm did with Mr. Freeze in BTAS, they'll wipe their girldick all over the settings and characters everyone already likes and shit up the series because they have a story they want to tell, and damn the consequences.

I think if the Castlevania animated series did happen in the mid-90s on something like HBO, it would've been way better than the Netflix shit we got. I'd imagine a 90s HBO series to be more like Gargoyles or Spawn TAS

Pibby, that one animated short by adult swim that got Theorists and Essay YouTubers to jizz themselves because "CROSSOVERS!!!!" and "LORE!!!!", had their creator announce it's probably not gonna become a full show.

The original trailer was actually neat, and I’m not going to fault the series for a terrible fandom.

What I am going to fault it for was all the leaked content saying that the actual show would have taken a dive into the real culprit of the “glitch” apocalypse being… “toxic online culture”. Give me a goddamn break, glad that it’s dead if that was the goal.

Wait, THAT was gonna be the overarching plot to this show? I thought it was just gonna be Pibby and a couple of other parody characters teaming up, growing a sack and fighting back against the Glitch and stop it from infecting other shows. What a gay reveal if true then.

Thinking on it more, that may be the reason why it wasn’t greenlit. Whether the creator likes it or not, Pibby’s fanbase, annoying as they are, is literally the exact kind of fanbase the show appeared to be explicitly and overtly against. According to a leaked animatic and the original pitch bible, the corruption was going to just basically be “the internet” and use terms like “cringe” or “lit”, etc, while a script leak that hasn’t been 100% confirmed to be legit yet is still worth noting ended with a couple teenagers making crude memes out of the characters, which is implied to start the corruption.

WB is dumb, yet I think even they would realize that that kind of show wouldn’t be received well when the entire audience excited for it is doing exactly what the show is literally flat-out calling you a monster for doing, in this case “corrupting the original creator’s vision” or some other bullshit like that.

How sad is it that captain N of all places had a better dracula and castlevannia in 1990 than netflix in 2023 can do....and by better I mean cringe but in a retroactively funny cringe.

If that castlevannia is gen xers looking back at old photos and saying "I can't belive I thought neon tights were cool." Then castlevannia nocturne is a zoomer Tombstone that reads, "I can't belive I cut my dick off."

When DiC Animation can do a better job with the Castlevania lore (albeit in a Captain N episode) than Powerhouse Animation and Netflix, then of course these two companies have done fucked up.

Yeah it looks weird, but for a Disney show it's surprisingly inoffensive. Not a single faggot or troon I've seen.
The faggotry in Disney animation reached a peak with owl house. From the supposedly "always gay bi and nonbinary" characters in the second first season to them all wearing pride pins in the token 3rd season Disney was kind enough to grant Danna dumbass. Maybe there is a hint of truth to the claims that they plan on rolling back on that sort of thing...and maybe Tyler Bryan Jewart will become born again and find Jesus.

At least with Disney Channel/XD, I think it's more creator-dependent than anything. Some of the shows are pretty decent (we particularly love Big City Greens; Hamster & Gretel and this Kiff show are pretty decent too), some are borderline (Miraculous comes to mind), and some are woke trash (Hailey's On It, Moon Girl).
Disney Channel's live-action more or less is borderline-to-trash these days, nothing really that good.

Castlevania Nocturne was fine animation-wise, but excruciating in every other way. Total letdown with the story, characters, but in the end, nothing new for Nogflix (let's race-swap everyone). Definitely not coming back for S2.

I expect the Tomb Raider series to get eviscerated in a similar fashion.
The animation studio making it is known for grate animation but shit story telling. Which is kind of sad really :(
