Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Well yes, it's a very decent, well written show. Granted it's not diehard hilarious and it has its flaws, especially when there are points where it shows some zoomer technology, but take away that and it's still a pretty funny show, and that can be contributed to series co-creator Mike Scully, who in my opinion, is the most underappreciated showrunner for The Simpsons during the late-90s through early-2000s
See I didn’t even give Dunkachinoville a chance because I see these retarded Bob Burger-esque designs and assume it’s shit.

And again the sign of a shit star vehicle is “Look our show has has-been aging celebrities. “We got Amy Pohler! And Mindy Kaling. And the Napoleon Dynamite Cast!”

I’m sure it’s only a matter of time that we get a Pete Davidson cartoon.

You can definitely tell where scullys writing stops and pohler's takes over. The first episode had the black love interest say she spits in papa John's pizzas because "they don't support LGBTQ causes" quote unquote. They don't even make a joke about how just cause the COMPANY doesn't comply with your opinions doesn't mean you potentially posion innocent people who buy their products.

But aside that it at least writes the family as getting along and the parents happily married and not total idiots who should never have gotten married in the first place. The only show that does that being bobs burgers.

Unrelated but I just recently watched Igor from 2008. God what a sweet little movie. Clever jokes, self contained style, and just low budget enough that they had to be creative with the visual style in order to make it work. I would not be surprised if someone from Psychonauts did concept work for it.
No other movie looks or feels like it, and I think that's both good and bad. Bad because I think it has qualities that a lot of stuff is missing now, but also kind of good because it means what makes Igor special hasn't been ruined by 500 derivatives. As it is now, it's just a very nice, if not flawed movie.

in other news, exploding kittens got a cartoon on netflix. if you're confused thinking "isn't that a card game?" then your confusion is warranted.
because its "based" on the card game.

also there's a new witcher cartoon called "The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep" with an "legend of vox machina" anime art style that no one would give a shit about.
untill you hear geralt, because they got Doug fucking Cockle to voice him.

for the non-gamers in this thread, he voiced geralt in the CDProject Red Witcher games and his performance of him is fuckin mint.

the smooth, emotionless, logical voice he does for geralt fits the character perfectly. you know that that thing where a voice actor and a character fit each other so well that its impossible to imagine someone else doing the role?

doug is geralt in my mind.

i for one am excited for this show.

I am very tired of fantasy cartoons being clean and sterile, things need to get back to the gritty shit like we had with heavy metal and Conan and motherfucking Korgoth.

I think western fantasy art needs to get back to its western roots. Most anime is designed to be sleek appealing and colorful, fuck that. The Witcher is full of blood and guts and weird pagan druid stuff. I don't think an artstyle like Vox Machina can do it justice.

Why yes, I like the Tyler the Creator album

But seriously, the 2008 movie was pretty comfy. It's sad that journos wrote it off as a "Shrek ripoff," even before the movie's initial release.
What’s wrong with glitch techs
Yea, Glitch Techs was pretty good.

The show is more well written than most of Bob's Burgers. I'd say this is a rare case of "don't judge a book by its cover."

This is something that Mike Scully also utilized in the Simpsons when he was a showrunner for the Simpsons from the late-90s/early-00s. I'd say that era of the Simpsons, despite having blunders, still had surprisingly good episodes, and that's because they made Marge more fleshed out of a character, despite being a little bit similar to Peggy Bundy of Married with Children

I heard that the pilot isn't canon, probably because the tone doesn't align with what the show currently is. Which is yaoi.
Even though the pilot is longer canon, you had an earlier episode in the same season where Blitzo threatened to kill a demon child (and his mother) because the child used a slur to describe Blitzo.

Nostalgia is gay and not healthy at all, but sometimes I still like to watch Youtube videos of programming blocks from 2002 Cartoon Network Cartoon Cartoon Fridays to remind me of a time before everything in the world became completely fucking gay and unbearable.
I'll always remember 2000s era of Nick, CN and Disney Channel.
I keep saying this over and over and I will die on that hill by saying that the 2000s was the final great decade. It was a decade that, despite its horrifying shit in the real world, was still proven to be a simpler time before all the globohomo bullshit
