The Elgin Marbles thing actually makes sense but not just because the Greeks are good with their artifacts, but because not only were they arguably originally stolen, but the Greeks still have the other part of the collection so it's basically broken. The overrepresentation is a consequence of the sort of people who make mainstream mediaslop today: They are all overwhelmingly from either Los Angeles or New York City, where basically all of our pop culture is produced: Two cities that have insanely high immigrant populations. A lot of them are even born and raised in these areas, so they genuinely cannot fathom that most of the world is not a cloaca gentium. Cultural revolution basically sacked and destroyed a bunch of imperial sites because they were remnants of monarchist "four olds" ideas. Did irreparable damage to the country, archaeologically speaking.

HOWEVER, the CCP only ever ruined their own country. They didn't conquer half the continent to go and rape/pillage more. That's what Islam did, and that's why Islam is frankly worse. The cultural revolution lasted a decade. The Islamic destruction of culture has lasted 14 centuries. Mao couldn't even come close to that level of damage.
