Confession Time:
I really like this Sam Kessler's work. His animations are quite something else.

Talk about damn smooth. The way the characters gesticulate their hands, the perfect stretch and bounce, the personality extruding from every minute movement. Beautiful. Just wish the dude wasn't modern Western animation in physical form. (Warning: his bluesky is seriously gay and you will contract AIDs upon scrolling through it.)

Is Fixed a great movie? No it’s average to mediocre. But with that said all the moralfagging about a dumb movie where dogs fuck each other is really stupid to me. Nothing in Fixed wouldn’t be over the line in an episode of Family Guy. It’s tame compared to Family Guy at its edgiest.

The animation is really good and it made me laugh a few times.

The complaints were less about it's morality and more about it being beneath Gennedy.
Then again he also did the hotel Transylvania movies so

I was actually waiting for reviews, but hearing that it isn't really that interesting is assuring. The trailer once again overhypes it.

Dexter's Lab wasn't above potty humour. Gennedy is a man of varied tastes.
Samurai Jack had an entire episode about a dragon with deadly farts and Jack goes inside its asshole. Genndy is absolutely capable of scatological humor lol.
Imagine you work your ass off for however long animating a movie and a bunch of zoomers tell you it's beneath you because they've seen maybe 2 shows you've made.

Okay I can get that. It could have been a little more highbrow but damn it was just nice to see some well made 2D cartooning again. The way the dogs were animated with different expressions just almost felt Golden Age quality again.

If you can accept that this is the same studio that gave us the piece of shit that is Sausage Party it was alright.

I had a lot of eye roll moments but I sat thru the whole thing and it gave me some chuckles.

I saw "Kpop Demon Hunters" last night with a couple pals over. Maybe it's because I'm a chick but this movie really did it for me. I haven't had this much fun since maybe "Wreck-It Ralph"? Or even "Megamind"? It feels like a long time! no shit not everyone is going to like this. This is one of those flicks that you can decide from the trailer alone if you're going to play it or pass it up. I welcome the sequels but not the live-action.

What are your guys' thoughts about the recent cartoon reboots and revivals, like Phineas & Ferb, King of the Hill, Fionna & Cake, etc.? I personally think that they are all very mediocre and slop worthy, just not as unbearably cringe as shit like the Proud Family Reboot, She-Ra, and Teen Titans Go.
I watched the new season of KotH. It's a return to form only slightly updated for obvious reasons. I was hesitant on having to deal with Bobby still sounding young in a young adult body, but they also did that with Connie and somehow it worked for both of them.

My only critisim is no more Luanne. While the charcaters that are still around make it work along with the new additions, Luanne's (and by extension, Lucky's) absense was felt a few episodes in. The writers pulled Luanne's fate into so many directions that to not have a single solid answer as to what she ultimately became (hopefully better than her mama) sucks.

That's because brown is the anti-neon.
Neon thrives on contrast, that's why so many things paired with neon (neon lights, glow-in-the-dark stuff, laser tag, raves) are on black or very dark blue. I think that principle makes neon work on black people, but they need to lean into the contrast. You can't just have dirty-ass Hot Cheeto Red weave in your grown-out braids and rock the look, that's ghetto. These looks off of pinterest are thought out, high contrast, and done well:

(and on white models so I'm not cherry picking)

Problem is, in animation and in real life, most things aren't contrasty enough to make neon work.
If they wanted to make a neon cartoon with brown people they should've made it as contrasty and stylish as Urbance or Spiderverse:

The problem is they pussed out and didn't push anything hard enough. They do that all over in animation, they make everything blobby and safe and mediocre. If they actually pushed the colors, maybe like...

Obviously it's still blobby brown lesbians, I'm not redrawing the whole scene, but it looks way better imo. The neon colors pop because there's a lot of dark to contrast it! Plus, darkening the scene and leaving the important elements (the starry sky, the main characters) bright makes them stand out while less important shit fades into the background. I don't know when "put more detail into the most important things and less into the less important things" became arcane knowledge, but here we are.
You don't know when "put more detail into the most important things and less into the less important things" became arcane knowledge"? I'll tell you when. When more and more artists started bitching post-production about their work going to waste in the final cut. They share it on social media and get fans bitching along with them, making the studios look bad. Whole entire animation shots getting axed or cut down is one thing (so many good Simpsons animations left out), but background minor details getting lost in the color scripts? No fucking shit that'll happen! BG artists in all forms should know this is standard shit and those who don't got into the wrong job role.

Your analysis is great but I'm afraid your "fix" isn't too much of an improvment. You gave it that "bisexual lighting" that's been all over the place these past few years. Not your fault the colorist is color-tarded.

Phineas and Ferb and Fionna and Cake were all actually pretty good, I haven't seen the KOTH one yet and I'm scared to watch it in case it shits on the original.
Be a pussy scared no more. Go watch it or dont.

Oh they KNOW it's shit and are trying to salvage it
:story:
The Shrek/Sonic the Hedgehog connection is strong with this one. Fingers crossed they cut out Zendaya for an actul voice actress. (revenge for Kath Soucie getting cut as Lola from SJ2 for that overhyped goblin)

Something about an animated movie beating out real k-pop singers just makes me :story:
>second song from an animated film to reach #1 in this decade
I almost thought "Let It Go" was #1 but it's not it' s"We Don't Talk About Bruno". The Mouse still keeps his crown.

Genndy has just wanted to make a Popeye movie for the last 10 years and no one will let him. But he makes an honest to god traditionally animated adult movie and no one wants to see it.

Loving Vincent lost to Coco at the Oscars, Adi Shankar will continue to get work, Rick and Morty is still running while Ballmastrz and Tigtone got cancelled. Animation fans aren't kids anymore, the market is what we make. And this market sucks.
No the market is what the market's moneyholders make of it. The consoomers/audience at large is just the other half of that. Lead a horse to water, can't make them drink and all.

Cases in point: They wanted us to love "Wreck-It Raplh 2" to the point it could win an Oscar and not be bullshit, but we said no and "Into the Spiderverse" deservedly got it. They gave us "Elio" expecting money and praise, they got less than that and "kpop demon hunters" got it instead.

There will always be kids that are animation fans. Adult animation fans get catered to less and less as they age. It's the way time works and you're a fool to think it's not. The market does this all the time and they won't stop because "muh masterpieces got no hekkin moneiez but lots o love from da art cummunitee". It bums me out too but do you really want the likes of "Loving Vincent" to be constant landfill consoomer crap like "Nightmare Before Christmas"? Treasure the gold you dig up pal.

Little OOT here, but I read this as bodycon, which reminds me of a hentai dragon quest clone for the FDS called Bodyconquest. Not a terrible pirate game, but it's more known for its dual-sense name (Bodycon Quest or Body Conquest).
dude get some glasses so a misread doesn't make you curse us with this trashcan knowledge again jeez zeus.

That's because he is a Jew, but alright. At least he can entertain, I guess.

Maybe it's because I'm a chick

The people crying about Fixed the hardest are the sort of people who believe the likes of Bojack Horseman are examples of "mature and intelligent" adult animation. They champion the worst, ugly animated sitcoms written by obnoxious women where all of the characters are sarcastic and snarkily sassy until they suddenly have moments where they try to be "emotional" and sentimental but it's just sappy, overwrought nonsense.

Mind if I ask what makes the writing overwrought and sappy? I might have a feeling but I don't know.

Rick and Morty is a good example of this. Sure I find the show obnoxious, the Roiland seasons were unfunny but even I'll concede it had a coherent gimmick. When the "new writers" i.e. "women" came on board, they pushed this really sappy emotional crap that wouldn’t be bad for a "serious" cartoon but just didn’t fit the show’s vibe. They only doubled down on it as time went on, especially post-Roiland. I really have a problem with shows in any medium that want to be sarcastic, cynical-cool, etc. with sassy characters but then try to go for unearned sentiment. You can't have thin characters that are mostly delivery vehicles for sarcastic one-liners and/or the scripters' screeds and/or cynical posturing for what feels like 99-percent of an episode and then try to wrench heartwarming moments from them that are so sappy they lack only a studio laugh track dropping "awwws".
