Samantha Kays with a welcome nuanced observation.

Seems to be the case. Is there any good Western animated show that's action-themed and NOT Cal Arts bullshit or anime-inspired?

I don't think there's something like the Justice League being aired these days, right?

okay, so you have to have a bunch of robots fighting other robots
and you NEED have the most cool and the most epic fight scenes with those robots, with robot lazers and robot katanas, and then stretch that out for a full season.
and its okay to destroy them, too, because they're robots, dont worry about it, it'll be even cooler
things like plot or Character development is secondary, add it in if theres space for it, but the priority HAS to be the epic robot fights. That is the only reason why people will care to watch the show.
They want young gen-z men to watch their stuff? thats all they need to do. Its literally that simple. watch them fuck it up somehow kek

Oh look, the CalArts defender.

So ya like them mouthbeaners, huh?
I don't get hung up on artstyle unless I personally find it to be exceedingly ugly, or if the animation is particularly terrible or inconsistent. I don't know why that counts as "defending" anything.

Not that hard to see why.

I brought this up in the DC thread a week or two ago when discussing the company’s downfall, but the reality is that America lacks the proper infrastructure for animation. The main source of revenue for cartoons, especially action, is toys sales. This comes with the unfortunate side effect that you have to deal with toy manufacturers who are extremely rigid in what they accept, with audiences needing to be primarily boys 7-10 years old. Have a property that skews older, it is dead in the water. Have a property that seems to have a glut of females make up the audience, also dead.

If you want examples, look into DC cartoons. BTAS was consistently changing to skew younger for toy manufacturers with additions such as Robin (Tim Drake) and later overhauling the series to be Batman Beyond. Young Justice was another victim as, despite high ratings, the show having a pretty unique 50/50 split of boys/girls lead to its cancelation with the girl market being cited as the reason for the decision. Samantha’s point about shows skewing younger has been a rumor surrounding TTG for a while given the high density of females 03 and YJ brought in. It simply made more economic sense to market to a vague younger demographic than try and spin the wheel again and have toy companies rape Warner over a demo of women and older men.

There are other DC fumbles with similar tales that you can follow if curious. Wonder Woman has a long history of being rejected over the female demographic, and there is even talks of Static Shock’s troubled development as toy companies wouldn’t accept a black hero.

Compared to anime, America just doesn’t have the right outlets to make boys action cartoons a success. Japan is willing to invest in adult collectibles like statues, pillows, etc.. Regardless of age or gender, you can usually find anime merchandise that matches you. Meanwhile, America is stuck with cheap toys that only appeal to a singular demo, so unless your series is popular within those boundaries it will not last.

Get ready Owl House bros, Dana’s here to drop a new series reminiscent of every mascot horror of the 2010s

Seriously, getting some real FNAF vibes from this…

The trailer intrigued me a bit at the start, but once it cut to the cyberpunk shit, I can feel myself losing interest. I was sort of hoping for an American McGee vibe, but it quickly lost steam.

Sensing some anti Disneyland sentiment here. Look at this website:

I remember seeing the teaser and was admittedly interested in where the show might be headed. After having seen the trailer all that interest has all but left me.

Was hoping for some sci-fi space horror or something similar, not what effectively amounts to FNAF mixed with “Disney is evil and I hate them”.

Oh, goodie. Another cartoon about badass girls with quirky hair colors. We needed another one of those.

The initial setup of the princess being kept in a coma was already lame enough, but the plot turning out to just be cyberpunk fnaf because the person working on it is still mad at Disney is even WORSE.
