Like I said on the GLITCH thread, in Dana's case- Disney did absolutely nothing wrong.

Her show just wasn't reaching kids. The Twitter/Tumblr/ Reddit crowds that likes her work are old enough to have jobs. She was hired to entertain kids not get reddit upvotes and articles praising how "progressive" she is.
I don't know the full details of how the Owl House got canned.
I think in terms of professionalism what's important is that the show made Disney's money back. Because even if you don't care about that, there are people who have to sweep up after your mistakes, it could be some accountant's job if the show can't break even with the money entrusted to it. Same with the crew for the show, if you can't keep your head in the game they could lose their gig and have to find a new one.

If the show was cancelled for being too gay, that's a shame but I'd have to know what the loss was. Although knowing Disney, I would not be surprised if they buried the show and rushed it out with weird airings so they could write it off. This is a big no one wins situation which is why I'm sympathetic but not as sympathetic as most would be.

Going to back to KOG, I have a problem with Dana Terrace having a spiteful attitude towards Disney, cause hey guess what, not EVERYONE gets to make a show for fucking Disney. And 2 seasons and a finale is way more generous than how they handled some of their other projects.

Honestly wouldn't it be a better fuck you to Disney to make a better Disney product than modern Disney would be able to ever make? No? Shitty mascot horror, okay, you do you Dana!
Wouldn't that just be another straight-to-video fairy tale movie with a cult following, like the Swan Princess?

Got recommended this animation that's essentially "silly furry animals having such #relatable life issues with oh-so realistic talking video that won some awards apparently" #84846846 with, frankly, some pretty good animation.

It's about some bird and a lizard (that the creator states in a pinned comment is a trans woman and is voiced by a trans woman but has the most male sounding voice in history; you can't make this up) and the bird dude is getting ready for a date, only to realize that date didn't go as planned.

Final few minutes end with the bird and lizard dude smoking a bong while said lizard dude talks about whatever that I do not care to go in detail with. I don't know.

I'll give it this, at least the characters did feel natural. Creator did a good job expressing them at being just characters who so happen to be LGBT and not characters that are queer. Still doesn't excuse the pinned comment. "Transmisogyny" my butthole.

If you listen to the first few minutes of the video prior to the bird going on the date and after the date, then it's literally two gay dudes talking and no amount of gaslighting will change that. Getting real tired of winning the easily clockable game.

Would it kill for these so called trans characters to actually sound like their gender? And not in a stereotypical way either that makes the clocking even easier? But again, it's 1000% valid to not sound like your targeted gender whatsoever and still demand people to refer to you as a true and honest woman or man. So that's cool.
Furry shit aside, the animation is very impressive. The writing leaves a lot to be desired though. I haven't seen MTV Downtown enough to accurately pinpoint if that was the inspo, but Downtown gets away with this kind of dialogue because it has a very strong cast. This kinda lacks that but it's a thesis film I guess.

Sorry for the random question. This isn't a piracy question.

Has anyone been able to find a streaming version of Fantasia featuring the Deems Taylor narration? All I can find is the Corey Burton narration. Maybe I'm retarded.

I have literally never heard a tranny voice that genuinely passes. I've heard a couple that come a little close, that your brain will default to hearing as female, but you still subconsciously know that something is off.

And those are still rare edge cases. Most of them just sound like adult men doing that breathy falsetto that five-year-old-boys do when mocking their female classmates.

Mhm. I'm pretty sure biological dudes or women who train to sound like the opposite gender do a better job because they're not trying to sound like a MILF or a linebacker but rather, a woman or a dude. That simple.

Though, in terms of those "girl voice trolling" videos, they tend to treat sounding a MILF in front of horny people in VRChat or COD for a woman's voice. Just annoys me a lot. Sound convincingly female? Nah. Let's sound like an OnlyFans model or a generic anime girl instead!

Which, ironically, is what trans women try to do but fail horribly. That's why so many of them nowadays just sound like linebackers or college fratboys and still demand to be seen as a real women.

if it doesn't sound like a dude doing the equivalent of black face for women, then there's no point to it.
that very clear "wait this isn't a woman" feeling is what these freaks get off to.
it wouldn't be a statement if they sounded like women, they want you to accept the shitty voice and say that's enough to be a woman.

Cross post from the Rebeltaxi thread. Pan just uploaded the trailer for his new web pilot, Loki IRl.

What are your thoughts on it?

We spoke about this months back, so will try not to reiterate.

It looks fine, if not very derivative. Good on Pan for following his dream despite making an ass of himself on the Adult Swim panel. Personally, I feel like this would have been a bigger deal had he gotten it going ten years ago as opposed to now, but better late than never I suppose.

TOH always stands as a prime example of wasted potential. Wasted setting. Wasted concepts. Wasted character ideas.
Everything felt rushed and/or suffered for the sake of pleasing the Tumblr Lesbian fujo cat lady crowd.

The crazy part is you can look at it's "sibling" show in Amphibia and see a show that is alot more solid in it's writing, presentation, and the story it wants to tell (even if there are some minor hiccups).

How would you guys rewrite Steven universe and other tumblr shows
I'm really late on this but just deliver.

Like TOH, it was pure wasted potential. The show’s first season was very atmospheric had vibes. From Lapis, to Jasper and Peridot coming in, there was always this promise of something bigger on the horizon. Except, up to, and past, the Diamonds, the whole thing was a big letdown; even things that were delivered ended up getting barned or made into parodies of their former selves. In the end, White Diamond got upset because Steven was hella sassy, and that proves she does have emotions after all. When Steven’s hella trauma caught up to him and he turned into Barneyzilla, all everyone had to do was give him a big hug and everything was okay 🤗. Not to mention what everyone else said, that Beach City got too much attention for how much impact it actually had. “What matters is the journey, the friends we made along the way” don’t mean anything when the journey is ass, the friends are boring and go nowhere, and there are no real consequences for anything these characters do. Like fucking move, shit or get off the pot.

The first season was great because it paced itself and focused on what mattered. We don’t need to know why there’s a big crater in Russia, or even how the gems came about, but ultimately I think Steven Universe couldn’t answer the questions it posed. It was storyboarder-based, and obviously these storyboarders did whatever. (Edit: Intent does not matter when you put in "emotion" after setting up important, world-ending stakes, and ignore these stakes while telling people not to care about them. Slice-of-life matters work in purely slice-of-life contexts, which Steven didn't have. It wanted sci-fi weight lifting slice-of-life cookies. No dice.) They basically hand waved everything away, and they (mostly Sugar?) tried to tell the audience (through Peridot) not to take it seriously. So which is it? Do we take your characters seriously because of their trauma/emotions, should we care about their lives and the world they live in? Or are we supposed to ignore everything going on because the narrative would rather jangle keys in our faces than actually go into it? Either we should or we shouldn’t. You can’t have both, you can’t pick and choose, that’s how you ended up a laughingstock with your audience crying “What if Hitler said he was sorry?”

Basically, to actually answer your question: tighten focus, deliver on promises, and keep them. Steven being pseudo-homeschooled would be okay-ish given his circumstances, but the narrative made it clear he never had to do much until he discovered his shield, and even after that. Things fell on Steven's lap, and that's not fun to watch, whatever you are. Have Steven actually learn from both Gems and townies (even people beyond Not-Delaware, perhaps? Maybe? Since these things affect the entire planet?), have him live in the real world and act on what he’s learned. Don’t have the Gems cycle in these trashy lesbian dramalationships, actually include Lapis, Peridot or even Jasper so the Crystals are more well-rounded. Have Greg actually be a dad; you don’t have to completely change his character, but clearly his relationship with Rose would give him some perspective on the kind of person she was.

Steven's premise needed focus to live up to its full potential, something a storyboarder-based production would never allow. Get together, figure the basic shit out (like how does Earth actually see these Crystal Gems?) and set course from there. The balance between emotional parts and action was good in mostly 1-2. Keep it. Just focus more on the alien civilization than the blob people no one cares about. Be methodical with progression, none of this jackrabbit Steven bomb shit. You even have a good endpoint with the Diamonds, and good minibosses through Peridot and Jasper, so even if you don't want to Vegeta them, resolve them quickly. Don't let Jasper stomp around in the background making the four/five of your main characters look like chumps.

Shit or get off the pot.

Just shit or get off the pot.

Alright I'm putting out a request to all you niggas: I wanna make or get made a plush or crochet version of Jay and Alice. Is there model sheets online for those two in their Season 2 designs? Or has someone compiled at the very least an album of references for them?
Putting here for more exposure

The problem with Pan is the problem with many creatives that never make it and that's that they're married to one idea. All of the successful shows and pilots typically aren't people's first pilot. If Zach was married to Hellbenders he wouldn't have made Smiling Friends

the pilot is out, I already posted in the pan thread
https://youtube.com/watch?v=gLVU2jHUBeIit's not bad but man pan is not a great voice actor. doesn't help that he voices 3 characters and they all sound the same
The pilot was fine, I still can't see it getting picked up into a full series, but I prefer the world with the pilot to the one without it.
That said, pilots ending on a cliffhanger feel like tempting fate.
Also why do so few indie animators take the Tamers12345 route? Pre pony that is.
