I'm not a fan of Pan--he's just not on my radar--but I actually kinda liked this. It held my attention for the full runtime. Needs polish.

It's derivative, yes. Reminds me of an old trend of drawing OCs in comic tournaments on Deviantart. Seems like it would do well as a crowdfunded series on Newgrounds, but not as an Adult Swim show. It's kinda juvenile.

It is a Cartoon Network series through-and-through. It would have done well a decade ago when CN was still in their renaissance and Pan was basically the go-to animation person on the internet. Had he had an opportunity with CN back then, it would have slotted right in. Now it is the 2020s, CN is a dead brand, and Pan seems to mostly be just coasting off an established audience as he progressively devolves further into neetdom.

Yeah. It's very outdated. He should hang on Newgrounds. This is right up their alley and could easily grow a community of dedicated fans there. Does he even have a Newgrounds account?
 
So this interview with Genndy Tartakovsky came into my field of vision and boy is it depressing. It's one thing to believe that the Western animation industry is dead but listening to a long-time dues-paying veteran in animation admit the industry IS basically dead... US animation is in a really bad place right now, it's worse than most people realize.

That's mainly for the children's shows. That's why we have weird identity issues going on with these "children's" shows being made for man/womanchildren, we have these childless activists trying to indoctrinate children, and thankfully children aren't getting suckered into it and parents are waking up to it more. But as a result, it's killed the market and so there's no new IPs being made for children because it's "too risky". And then they wonder why they have lost their minds over how much anime has kicked their asses.

Adult animation, in the meantime, is still too childish in behavior and outlook on top of being too nihilistic, which is so fucking baffling that no one can make adult animation without that type of mindset because the two do not mix, like have you ever met a child with such negativity and soul-sucking cynicism about the world? (If you have, that child's been abused or is a psycho in the making.) Fixed sounds like it's more inspired by fratbros locker room humor than "hehe you said 'sex'", however, the premise is definitely alienating even if there's more to it than what marketing would make you believe.

(Also somewhat unrelated but the host is such an ugly bitch. She has awful tattoos, it's all fucking random, they don't flow together or make an artistic statement. She literally just stuck iconography in random places because she's all about the CONSOOM, and then there's the bad mismatched clothes she's wearing there and her nail polish. She's just so unattractive to look at.)

Id Rather something be outdated and stuck in the newgrounds flash era, before the likes of vivziepop and woke indie writing took over....im crossing my fingers pans loki irl series doesn't got the same route as vivs work. But I won't hold my breath over it.

(Haven't sat down to watch it yet so idk just how bad ir even good it is.)
 
Part of the problem with "adult" animation in the US is that it's been straightjacketed into the "animated sitcom" format by the sort of people who think "cartoons are junk for kids" therefore it's bold and subversive to make an "adult" show where the main points are swearing and "Big Mouth" style sex jokes. A lot of the people at the executive and producer levels involved in animation over the years are the people with the least respect for the medium. They think of it as a gimmick and treat it as such, or as crap they can use to sell crap.

In many ways, the current age of animation is an even darker time than the 1970s-80s "Dark Age of Animation". Too many people in the industry are fine with the current dead end status quo because it's a milieu where hacks and no-talents like them can thrive or at least putter along.

It's also more bittersweet than outright depressing, with an ending that's somewhat hopeful (one that shows women as hypocrites to boot!), which is surprising.

then the episode starts like nothing happened.

Smiling Friends is at least a small flicker of hope in a dead landscape for animation. I'm not sure if it'll really pave the way for anything new or exciting, but it's sobering to know this isn't a show made for and by tumblrfaggots that's been plauging the Industry for far too long.

Greg Cipes, the actor who voices Beast Boy on Teen Titans Go!, has taken to social media to air his frustration over claims he was fired.

Replying to an Instagram post about Cipes’ firing from the Cartoon Network series, the voice actor alleges he was unjustly cut after sharing personal health news.

“Warner Brothers literally fired me on Valentine’s Day right after I publicly shared my Parkinson’s diagnosis,” Cipes said.

In a second comment, he added, “It’s like a death to me that only the fans can bring back to life.”

It does reference the 03 show, they just fucked up the date.
Cipes has voiced Beast Boy throughout the show’s nine-season run so far, starting in 2013, which is currently airing on Cartoon Network. The actor had previously voiced the character for Teen Titans (2013), which ran for five seasons.

I'll take any excuse to dunk on WB, but this doesn't add up. He got fired because of this and is trying to change the narrative.

LK in particular barely even counts as a VA these days.

I have never heard that particular type of (lack of) animation rereferred to as "Jackbox," but I both kind of love you and hate you as that will now henceforth be a permanent subcategory in my brain because it is spot-fucking-on.
