Aw that's cute. You're just now discovering who Ralph Bakshi is.

Yeah he's jewish, and is probably the most fearless person who ever worked in animation. Dude puts nazi footage and tits in a movie for kids, and black face in a movie about Uncle Remus' stories.
Dude's a legend. Not to mention the guy rubbed shoulders with Frank Frazetta, Robert Crumb, John K, a shitload of artists.

His relations to Crumb seems to be strained at best though.

Not to sound like a fucking normie but I just learned not too long ago that it was Guillermo del Toro who was responsible for the "Animation is cinema" meme. That makes a lot of sense to me, he's a pretentious fag and a lot of his movies are just "what if da real evil wasn't evil but FOOSHIZAM?" he can't imagine any other villain outside of certain Italians and Germans(or in grinding Nemo's case old military men) that make good villains. It's why I refuse to watch his Pinocchio adaptation "It's good because it misses the point of the original story" is bullshit and so it makes me grin that a "movement"(meme) he started was overtaken by self serious Autists that use it to defend the slop they consume as a 45 yo man on Twitter.

Guillermo's Pinocchio is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I had to stop and start it over the course of three days to finish it. Outside of the sphinx, everything was ugly. The story was ugly, the music was god awful, unlikeable characters, Christianity mocking... Like, I hated the Shape of Water, but Pinocchio ripped the wool off my eyes and brought me to absolutely detest Guillermo. Totally sucked the whimsy out of a fairytale.

Tbf it’s a better adaptation than Disney’s live action

this last shot tells me the entire thought process on why this bitch looks like a disgusting Timmy Turner for 99% of the pilot:
I'm going to make things intentionally shitty and ugly.
Then contrast that with traditionally appealing characters.

but I'm going to make these intentionally ugly characters soooo relatable and quirky, that you'll look past this ugly creature, and love her more than the traditionally appealing characters.

(this is all the same character if you're too lazy to watch it.)

TLDR: if you have a funko pop collection. and suck dick for cock. you'll really like this pilot
Honestly Wreck-It Ralph* pulled it off better so that design does suck dick for cock. You can have an "unconventionally attractive" character with an appealing design, even if it sounds counterintuitive. And
>company whose business model relies on selling merch has series about Evil Disney and how oppressive factory work is
>they already have merch
>those acrylic stands are real

Are these people serious? Even without Dana's employment history, no one in the boardroom realized how ridiculous that is? Come on now.

*It is. It's female Wreck-It Ralph, made by Temu!

The build, hair shape(s), the overalls. It even has that sliver of a complementary color near the head. "Just change it up a bit so it doesn't look obvious you copied" ahh design.

Ralph's design is still appealing at the end of the day,
it doesn't hurt the eyes to look at him when he's on screen
Not-Timmy does.

I fully believe the premise they're going with the ugly ass real world, and the pretty thing being the thing they intend to criticize,
While they sell the merchandise of the ugly thing alongside the fucking Pretty thing DAY 1.
goes against the point so hard, that it's more insulting than anything else I've seen in the pilot.

You know what I thought would had been a lot more interesting to see an "indie" studio explore?
Contrast unfinished rough gesture animation drawings for the real world, with refined finished animation for the disney bitch.
they already more or less did this for a single frame,

incorporating those red pen correction notes into a constant motif is something I would had enjoyed seeing explored,
NOT FUCKING UGLY BITCHES.
NO, I DON'T WANT YOUR FUCKING HAT THAT SOME FAT FUCK WORKING IN A CHINESE SWEATSHOP WORE.

There's a reason why it was a big deal when Jimmy Hoffa "disappeared."
That "disappearance" is even referenced in The Simpsons:

"The Simpsons - Missing Union Representative"

- AreaEightyNine

It's "Last Exit to Springfield" (the "dental plan" one).

I couldn’t find the picture, but it definitely reminds me of some irl notes for how Janine’s design was changed in between seasons for The Real Ghostbusters. Right down to her pointy nose and glasses being considered “too violent”. Kinda interesting to see that.
I’ll admit that I haven’t watched the pilot, but from what scenes I’ve glimpsed I think it’s kinda weird that they’re ragging on Walt’s Disney. Wouldn’t it be more fitting to make a caricature of Bob Iger, like how Lord Farquaad was based on Eisner if we want to go for the Shrek comparison?
