It's really honestly something else, as predictable of a pattern as it is. Surprised they didn't do the shit other "indie creators" do the last 5-6 years where the moment a whiff of gender identity gets claimed by the "fandom" the creators go "YES YES IT WAS ALWAYS INTENDED".

Never read Homestuck past page one.

Yeah I opened up Moby Dick but when I read "Call me Ishmael" I had to stop reading. The name sounded too Jewish, and I don't consume (((their))) media.

Then were was completely random shit like the clown in the box and the comet which came out of no where and existed for no reason, not even to move the plot forward. Plus the profanity was in it just to be edgy rather than adding anything. When I write my stories, characters only cuss under extreme circumstances to add to the emotion of what they're saying. They were saying "fucking" non-stop just to have edgy characters.

I sometimes wonder how much of that is growing up and how much is it that gratuitous swearing just isn’t transgressive anymore.

It's the latter. Post 2020s time is a bizzaro world where you can say fuck but can't say retard or fag which used to be more minor swears you'd hear on tv (and still hear on tv) with fuck being the one that got bleeped. Swearing, specifically FUCK has morphed into the corpo "safe edgy" adult humor crutch the last decade or so and it's a massive shame upon the funny swear word ecosystem.

I remember reading the entire thing in college. And homestuck doesn’t work for an animated series. The format is a comic based in MS Paint art style presented in a flash format that imitated an old IM era of the internet.
The thing with homestuck is that it only works as a webcomic. The jokes, the pacing, the visual styles of text, and the style is immediately lost.

Also the characters are not faithful.
John doesn’t curse a lot and he’s a goofy fuck who likes crappy movies.
Dave is more low energy and reserved. He plays into the “cool kid” motif.
Rose is very stoic and sly.
Jade is a furfag

Actual homestuck fans from the past aren’t gonna like this and is probably gonna be memory hole’d by next year.

I dont remember if it was in the og comic, but all the profanity definitely fits the chatlog format better, it feels a lot more natural reading it than hearing them say it out loud.

I mean, what terminally online 13 year old (which these characters are) doesnt type like a total cringelord in a way theyd never actually speak in case mom hears?

And this is before the character actually known for swearing has shown up... god help us all

Characters swore a lot casually in the comic, but it wasn't this frequent and certain ones did it more than others (dave and karkat as examples). John swears more than dave in this pilot. It's not that john didn't swear in the original, he just did it a lot less than this and talked more like someone would actually talk.

Reminds me of an old x-men story where magneto had a nightmare of Der furher's zombie ghost rising from the dead to congratulate him on being a fast learner.

See, I find it real suspect that they had merch already at the ready before dropping the pilot so they could release it in-tandem.
