Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Something about canceling his own subscription to Netflix for his kids sake, over all the trans slop like dead end paranormal park. Makes sense give one of his kids became a flatscan and has turned on dear Ole dad for the sake of following the mob.

Ever since Netflix stock has plummeted, subs are down, and every right wing pundit from Benny Johnson to Matt walsh has addressed the cancelations and the shows that promted people to leave the service.

Pointing out everything from the so called "trans berry" and crossing dressing gay boy in strawberry shortcake, to the gay dads in cocomelon, the non binary cow in some show, prowlswipe a TRANSformer going by they/them pronouns (and Optimus prime apologizing like a bitch over "misgendering" prowl) and the dyke kiss in jurassic park camp cretaceous.

Yes those are all real amd they ALL happened in Netflix shows. And everyone from Elon, to the farms, to the mass of normies are fed up with it...all of it.
The real issue is that they are all 10 years late to the party (if not 60 years when Hollywood was overtaken by commies and socialists). If they wanted to have it out about all the far left political garbage in media, they should have been in that fight decades ago.

You're never gonna convince anyone on the idea that hollywood has been shit and communist since the 60s because people really like Jaws and Star Wars and Ghostbusters and whatever an awful lot. This became a thing because the right wing ceded all ground on artistic fronts and told their kids that universities were gay and commie and liberal, and now it seems unlikely to change

It's said the floodgates for Hollywood to live up to its name. (The Holly wood trees pegans reverie) was when Mccarthyism died at the end of the 50s and lead to the societal shifts in the 60s. Mainly because public opinion had moved away from all the red scare hysteria and jingoism of the post war years. Not helped by things like the rise of the beatnik and later hippie movements in San Francisco.

To stay on topic it's ironic that of all the mediums that did change during the rise of the first culture war in the 60s, animation was the one that changed the least. Walt Disney's work remained almost completely unchanged from when he first made snow white in 37, with only the techniques and artistry changing towards the end of his life and for some time after his death, hanna barbera left mgm to form their own studio and that led to the rise of tv animation, hell one of the last looney tunes cartoons was called injun trouble and it was relased as late 1970 iircc.

Not entirely animation related, but thought this was a cute callback for those of us who grew up with the NickToons crossover games.

If only Tak and Zim were in the game for a more complete reunion.

Is that Schaffrillas guy on twiiter the same one as the youtuber?
Yeah he is. I've grown sick of his content honestly I hate when a youtuber known for something bitches and cries when they're expected to keep covering the thing they're known for. The past two years he's whined about not wanting to be a cartoon channel anymore and wanting to talk video games and musicals.

The modern never ending culture war has made all media very unfun to engage with. There can't be nuance that's meant to make you think because everything that does that automatically must be part of some ploy from the deep state. It's all very tiresome.

I cannot imagine a modern audience's reaction if something like Æon Flux or Coonskin came out today. Everyone is such a baby now.

I don't understand the insistence on making the main characters as unbelievably fuckugly as possible.
that's the whole point of show.
to make the point that the beautiful shit is actually bad and evil, and the ugly shit is good.
she's perfectly capable of drawing appealing characters, but it's a case of "it's bad on purpose"
her specific blend of visual diarrhea narrative just leads to attempting to change the definition of beauty.
It's a very shallow attempt of trying to be deep, that shit is for these retards

I'd like to remind everyone once again this isn't even her own idea.
every god damn billion dollar company did what she's doing now
fat bitch.png
Like what? Make every shot have an unfinished and finished version?
shit you would see in style guides for animators, or pencil tests if you don't know what gesture means.
where the only aim is to get the drawing to feel right and staying loose as possible focusing on movement.
the entire idea being that both the thing she is attempting to criticize, and the thing she's trying to prop up is both pleasing to look at.

I think the problem is that Dana Terrace's art style emphasizes weird details in the eyes.

Characters will often have creases and bags around the eyes that make them look tired or irritated. Frank from KOG is no exception.
The point, I assume, is to express more about the character with simple facial details. Frank herself is just a very fugly example.

I don't like it personally, but given the character's background and bodytype, yeah she's not going to look very good by most standards. She is an adult woman that's worked an industrial job for a long time, she's a beanbag. And a woman doesn't have to look attractive just because she's a cartoon.
In fairness to Dana Terrace this is an incredibly difficult balance to strike, how much detail is too much? What's important and what can be abstracted for ease of animation? What details give a character immediate appeal? Terrace isn't Frida Kahlo, she knows how to give her characters appealing features.

The bigger problem is that the politics surrounding this show are retarded. There are fans that have raised their expectations to unreasonable levels just because they have tied their identity to the success of the show. To them, the show getting big means an independent studio is sticking it to Disney, even though the creator would not have the status in animation she does without the clout that comes from working with Disney. By that same token you have people wanting the show to fail because the creator is a woman and gay annoying retards on tumblr like the show.
Under these circumstances the show is not allowed to exist in its own vacuum. God help the poor saps working on it.

Why didn't you drop him after he murdered his brother

In fairness to Dana Terrace this is an incredibly difficult balance to strike
when you're making something, anything, you have full control over how its going to look.
this idea of "this is an incredibly difficult balance to strike" isn't that hard to dismantle

imagine if I were making a scary movie, should it be not scary enough? or really scary?
if my intentions are to scare people, I'm going to always lean towards the movie being too scary.
intentions are key to making anything, looking at this is telling me very clearly that her intentions were to make an ugly ass character.

I know it's for a narrative reason, just contrast that shit above with the last 10 seconds of the pilot.
The point I'm making here is this isn't a profound idea, it isn't challenging anything, and it hurts to look at it.
the ideas this dana person is playing with are inherently ugly by design, it makes me sad people would rather
explore ugly ideas, over something positive and inspiring.

yeah, I think they did that occasionally to flex shots they wanted to brag about, like Tarzan's Extreme Sports. or The Spinning Camera during the dance in B&tB, Grinch Stole Christmas behind-the-scenes with Tro- Phil Hartman had a bit too
that would be cool, I recall something similar with the storyboards for Ghibli R2 dvds

it makes me sad people would rather explore ugly ideas, over something positive and inspiring.
People who once looked to our heroes as symbols to aspire to now see them as an unflattering reflection of their own weaknesses and failures. Rather than try to better themselves and their lives through hard work, courage, and sacrifice, they instead find perverted joy in tearing down anything that stands higher than them: bringing everyone and everything down to their level instead of the harder but more rewarding task of raising themselves up. The end result of this way of thinking is a small, petty, envious view of the world - the kind of thing that belongs in the minds of small, petty, envious people who hide their dark intent behind a façade of compassion and fairness. The kind of people who hysterically preach acceptance of everything, no matter how ridiculous, harmful, or pathetic because once you accept everything then there's no need to strive for anything.

And instead of the inspiring heroes/heroines we used to look up to:

1759753611834.png
1759753809010.png
1759753851196.png
You end up with stuff like this:
1759753951189.png
1759754114095.png
1759754169267.png
1759754217193.png
1759753921989.png
Now ask yourself: who exactly is going to be inspired and motivated by any of the latter?

You know, even Quasimodo had a certain charm that that fugly woman lacks.
I think it helps he doesn't make funko pops for a living.
Frank on the other hand? You just KNOW this bitch has a subscription to some shitty lootcrate service,
on top of a streaming service, and a music app AND A FITNESS APP

just look at this fat fuck and tell me she inspires anything other than wanting to look away immediately
