I don't know why, but I thought his hat was supposed to be some kind of wig as a kid.
When I was a kid, my friend told me a rumor that Double D always wore that hat because he had a literal HOLE in his head, and there was a single frame in an episode where you could see it, but that they took it off TV so now it was just an urban legend.

God I miss being a kid.

Ed may be retarded but in the words of spanky ham from drawn together.

"He really is delightfully retarded."

I will never not laugh at the fact all three MCs voiced characters in the Cardcaptors Nelvana dub:

Early Ed Edd n Eddy was such a unique vibe. It was like a modern take on looney toons slapstick humor.
It makes me wish more cartoons attempted humor like this without having to layer it with metahumor.

As a kid you find Double D annoying for his cowardliness, but as an adult you can only admire the patience he has for the literal retards he hangs out with.
Off other 2000s Cartoon Network shows, Double D is honestly comparable to Blossom from the Powerpuff Girls (the original one, obviously) and Bubbie from Flapjack.

You find them annoying as fuck and incredibly bossy when you're an irresponsible little kid just wanting to see action and destruction, but when you grow up and mellow out, you realize, "Holy shit, they're actually in the right most of the time", and it's just them trying to be responsible and look out for the ones they care for. As a result, they really grow on you.

Cartoon shows used to frequently have characters that even adults looked up to without any overt political agenda or leanings whatsoever. It's honestly sad to see what happened two decades later especially as a 2000s kid myself. American animation is now a total shell of what it used to be, completely and rightly overtaken by anime after it faltered so much over that period of time. This picture comes in perfectly handy for describing my feelings exactly about its current state.

Downloaded Ed, Edd n' Eddie for some nostalgia, it's astounding how much better Cartoon Network animation used to be, before cal arts.

My parents didn't allow me to watch Ed, Edd, n' Eddie, but let me watch SpongeBob for some reason

Was this 90s to mid 2000s spongebob or post movie but prior to hillenburgs passing spongebob? Hard to belive it but We didn't start getting the really inane, asinine (and for some foresaken reason sexuallized) spongebob till fairly recently with search for square pants and it's infamy being the absolute lowest point.

My mom was not a fan of Ed, Edd n' Eddy either. I think the trio just irks parents since they are mischievous and everything is based on scamming people. SpongeBob is a much better icon for kids given he holds a stable job and has a sound moral compass.
