I'm an Ed Edd n Eddy season 1 purist. I hate using this phrase but I find it super cosy how relatively grounded the characterization and plots are there compared to later seasons. Edd isn't constantly nagging, Ed fucking speaks and his lolrandumness is toned down a lot, and Eddy is actually a sort of confident leader figure for the group. Only thing you really miss out on is Rolf who is undeniably funnier and used better in the later seasons, but I will happily accept that trade for absolutely everything else.

The final 'school' season also has this weird trend of constantly having the characters look bruised and dirty and crying, its kinda fucked up.

Oh yeah metv toons, I remember watching it on day 1. And its mostly full of hb-slop, you had to be up at 6 to 7:30am to watch looney tunes or wait for it later at lunchtime or the evening. and sometimes they played other things at night like the gerry anderson marionette shows or really early on weekend mornings they would play things like histeria, the mask, the ace ventura show and weekday wise they play stuff like beetlejuice and the real ghostbusters.

In much less important news, somebody bitched to IanJ about OK KO getting cancelled for the upteenth time, and it unintentionally led to people learning Invincible Fight Girl has been mercy killed.

No wonder Squidward is how he is, dealing with all those people like that as a cashier, I'd be mad too.

To be fair, Squidward is also the type of person that thinks his shit doesn't stink, specially when it comes to any form of art (especially music), so he deserves to be knocked down a peg or two.

The shows always been inconsistent with how squidwards talent with art is. Sometimes he's talented enough to make sculptures of himself in every medium from topiary to wax figures. Other times he can barley draw a circle right.


You're right about him strutting around like his shit don't stink though.

I think this show suffered from the same error that was commited with unicorn warriors eternal alas putting it on adult swim despite not being that edgy or mature, resulting in a diminished audience that could been bigger if they just put it on the regular network

Not to sound like Mr Enter but they took that concept and really turned it on him.

Like people forget, early Spongebob himself had moments where he got mad, got upset, became the straight man, and they make for surprisingly funny moments.

It's the same with Squidward he got episodes where his efforts got rewarded because he wasn't being his usual cynical self. When Squidward isn't being full of himself or is actually putting in the effort to do something the writers used to give him a break. Best example is Band Geeks, he earnestly tries to get a band together and isn't a pretentious asshole. Seeing how much it meant to them drives the characters to put on a good show.
