Gotta love how the title is "when times were simpler." It's almost like they're mocking what fans the franchise has left at this point.

But all jokes aside why bother rebooting he man AGAIN? between how hated the she ra and Kevin Smith he man were, and the fact that 80s nostalgia is pretty much dead given gen xers are a decade shy of being able to collect social security by now. (Just see the failure of starnger things season 5 beyond the "I don't like girls" debacle) this franchise has nothing left.

Let it rest in peace as filler om metv toons or 3 hour compilations on youtube.

What was even the last even moderately successful reboot of an 80s property? There are only two that I can think of. Stallone's conclusion to Rambo with last blood and that's mostly because Stallone has creative control over Rambo, and animation wise ducktales 2017. Yes 2017 a full 9 years ago, every other 80s reboot has either been woke sellout bullshit, or lazy rehash mediocrity that barley manages to turn a profit.

Regarding He-Man, I think this is sending up a test balloon to see if there really is money to be made off appealing to white, straight men again like the '90s had never ended. All the CGI lets them skimp a bit on the budget, and the actors they hired are (mostly) either known quantities, cheap nobodies, or has-beens they got for a song. Look at the cast:

Adam/He-Man: a white, ostensibly straight guy openly mocking the soy latte life with the He/Him pronoun nametag. He looks suitably power fantasy-like in the He-Man getup and it really looks like they're going to let him not be saved every five seconds by a minority or a chick.

Man-at-Arms: Idris Elba! It's the modern Morpheus/Mace Windu safe black guy we all still love and he's here to earn some minority points without alienating anybody.

Teela: an actual hot chick! Holy God! She's not a big black boss bitch or a muscle-bound dyke with a sidecut! It's a woman I'd actually want to kiss!

Evil-Lyn: Alison Brie! Young guys will go all mommy dommy mode with her, and old fucks like me are still rather attracted to her.

Jared Leto is... Jared Leto. Maybe they're trying to curry some favor with the Morbius meme community? It's Skeletorin' time, perhaps? I've seen weirder Hail Mary's.

The cynicism runs so deep at this point the average straight white man is going to feel pandered to in a bad way and secretly wait for the other shoe to drop and see where they lied to him this time.

I was just reminded…

This movie is part of a new cinematic universe isn’t it. After Barbie, Mattel is going all in on a universe involving all their toy franchises. This was slated to be part of the universe:

We are unironically going into the He-Man/Barbie Universe, I swear to fucking god…. Can’t wait for peak autism when Thomas & Friends is set to crossover (I’m not joking).

I wish we lived in a world where doing this as a boy was not only no big deal, but also appreciated by the girls.

Still, there is still media from this point in time, and since it wasn't that long ago, one can only hope that the more sensible times of our world will return and reign supreme! :)
