Someones already thinking about Gen Z men which is the problem for disney.
Shonen anime like jjk, bnha, demon slayer, etc are extremely popular and trendy with Gen Z boys/men (and girls/women) and sell a shitton of merch. Which makes sense because shonen is basically just a term for manga/anime aimed at young men.

Which means they now have a massive alternative source of fantasy/action/scifi entertainment, and for animation in general. Dont need to watch the new star wars slop shows to see space cowboys and alien titties anymore, or marvel to see good guy punch bad guy hard, etc etc. Its getting more common to watch anime movies in theaters, even. No need for crunchyroll or shady pirating sites to gain access to anime anynore either, most of the big ones are dubbed in english and easily accessible on netflix.
And the genz men who dont like anime generally dont seem to watch much fictional shows/movies at all tbh because theres other shit out there to entertain them.

Now disney cant easily squeeze money out of them with shitty sequals to old IPs and new boring shit even with them having so much monoply over western media. Its like they realised theyre mostly banking on nostalgia baiting the millennials but cant keep up that grift into the future if gen z and gen alpha have no nostalgia towards them because they didnt appeal to them... in 20 years more 40 yo men are gonna remember Gojo or Bakugou than whatever characters are in the stuff disney has put out recently.

The thing to understand about Matt Braly is that he has never had an original creative thought. He is one of the laziest of the 2010s industry creators, it becomes more apparent once you look at this work, everything involves a Thai or ambiguous Asian girl struggling to adapt to a Western lifestyle. Heaven forbid he would at least try to do something interesting with elements from hundreds of years worth of Thai culture instead of yet another "diaspora-dweller is sad because of living in the West" tale.

According to his filmography the only thing he fully directed is amphibia with the rest being storyboard/small directing work for stuff that doesn't sound like that, did everything else get cancelled lmao??

I entirely agree with your post wholesale and anyone who disagrees with it is an idiot, but quoted this in specific because Disney still pulled off the stupid move comic books did in banking on childless, now-no-longer-young adults for their short-term disposable income.... and thus becoming chained to them both in negative reputation ("Disney Adults", natch) while still needing their income (what with those losers polluting the parks) and forced to keep appeasing them since they aren't appealing to kids and families anymore. Which means their growth, if it follows comic books' trajectory, is going to become more and more limited as time goes on.

That they didn't even try to keep the boys' media they purchased in Star Wars and Marvel tilted to men in any form in general was an even more baffling decision as part of that shift to childless adults' income.

>it was a very personal story for me as I was diagnosed with a....
OH MY FUCKING GOD, NOBODY CARES. YOU'RE A FUNNY DRAWING MAN, DRAW FUNNY THINGS GODDAMN IT. JUST ONCE, I'D LIKE TO SEE AN ANIMATED MOVIE THAT ISN'T THE DIRECTOR'S PERSONAL THERAPY SESSION.
I agree, all this ethnic trauma slop bears the paradox of "mystically exotic minorities are heckin' rayciss!" but also "my culture is super spiritual unlike those boring white-breads!", the result is homogenized self-indulgent mediocrity.
An old ad for Samurai Jack from a Philippine cable network which also showcased WWE programs

Dubbing must be hard

Funnily enough most of the new stuff they make doesnt really appeal to women much either, its just kinda made for no one.
On tiktok I recently got multiple posts about how cute padmes outfits in the star wars prequals (which ive never watched) were and how hot anakin was, when i havent heard shit about the sequals in years atp.

The only impact it had on the culture was adam driver being the resident ugly-hot actor for a while, i dont even remember what happened in those movies and I actually watched the first 2. Same with acolyte, even the women it catered to didnt care about anything except the filipino abs, which they easily couldve used in something that appeals to men as well...

I can see gen z girls having some nostalgia towards disney in the future because their heavily female-oriented stuff (disney channel, some princess movies) is occasionally decent still but they really dropped the ball on not just male-oriented but even just unisex media.

Tell me about it. The rat hasn't given us a good Pooh movie/show since Christopher Robin. And I HATED Brad Garrett as Eeyore in that one--literally just watched it for the characters and Jim Cummings.

Play date with Pooh will not be acknowledged whatsoever

Andrew Marshall (the person Marvin in Hitchhiker's Guide was based on) would have made a great Eeyore.

Loud House confirmed cancelled.
