So far I've been enjoying Owl House, hoping episode 3 will be good. Has anyone seen recently allot of "Christian journalists" have been freaking out about The Owl House since it's come ou? Some have before it even came out. They also cherry-pick an interview the creator had trying to make her look like some kind of monster conveniently leaving out she is Catholic herself.

Here one such article for you all, get ready to laugh. http://archive.ph/YWytI

One of the main characters is a witch who lives with a cute demon. I'm not religious but I understand why some religious people might object to it. I doubt they'd like some of my favourite manga/anime series like Gabriel DropOut (which features several friendly demons not to mention angels corrupted by humanity) and Flying Witch (self explanatory) either but I'd understand their objections.

Wow, I don’t know what to say except, wait, the creator is catholic? then how is it demonic?
I know they at least went to a catholic school and was raised as such. I know she was apparently made fun of in school for wanting to make cartoons and reading harry potter for some reason. From what I can tell its simply the fact there are demons and witches as protagonists here and appear to live in a place that looks like hell. For some reason, Luz wanting to become a witch and befriend Edna and King equals teaching kids witchcraft to these kinds of people. Its all rather silly how much people are blowing it all out of proportion. It reminds me of growing up and people calling Harry Potter and Pokemon things of the devil despite John Paul the 2nd, the pope at the time said it was fine so people would shut up about it. Sadly it seems to be coming back from exceptional Catholics and Christians alike with the Owl House.

I also just remembered there were people who called many cartoons and toys back in the 80s of the occult as well. History repeats itself once again.

That's not all. Rebecca Brown, perhaps one of the craziest fundies alive, says in one of her books that many children's toys are in fact statues of demon gods.

Oh, this I got to see. Had no idea she was this nuts. I feel bad for Dana Terrace and the rest of the cast and crew who are being called monsters by people like this. I imagine being told your show is a product of satan can cause depression to anyone.

Oof, if she thinks that, she must think Mannequins are just demons hiding in plastic shells (I mean she's not wrong, they're fucking creepy).

Still, people who complain about drawings on paper really, really need to rethink their lives and maybe realize God probably doesn't give a shit if you watched He-Man or Owl House.

It's the same as the fear of doing/saying/watching/reading X will turn you conservative/gay/autistic/etc. It's good old fashion fear tactics. Really now, if you're an adult who's secure in who and what you are (you should be by this point), I GUARENTEE you another cartoon product via asian sweatshop workers will not change much. It's entertainment, calm down. 🚬

Catholic kids should be reading Warhammer 40,000, not watching this "witches are friends, not faggots*" nonsense.

Yeah, all this extremist fundie crap just makes the product they're against even more enticing, which is the exact opposite effect of what these idiots (which is what they really are) truly want in the end. What they're doing only pushes people away from religion, not into it, unless it's by wrongful force, which is never good for any side of the argument, especially their own.

A Catholic (Dana Terrace) making a cartoon about witches and demons is about as big a deal as a Christian (J.K. Rowling) making a book about wizards secretly living among humans - in that it isn't really such (nor should it be seen as such.), honestly. What really matters is if these things are actually fun and entertaining to watch; these fundies are just looking for something to complain about, because no one wants their brand of "religious help" forced on them anytime soon, or hopefully anymore, in this case. No one who's actually smart, anyway.

Hell, you could say the same about water being wet and full of fucking chemicals, which is an actual thing people like this should be fighting against and encouraging others to do the same - as in, some actual good in the world for once, instead of whining about how people, especially easily impressionable beings, which children are (and we all were such in our pasts) need to be forced to do this and that "for God".

Furthermore, I'm wondering where these idiots were at when Star Vs. Was still a thing... You know, the girl who wears devil horns (her signature headband) on her head everywhere she goes, that is.....

I have to say, after an entire decade of dangerhairs screaming how something isn’t gay enough, black enough or just plain woke enough, it’s almost refreshing to see the Christian fundies and soccer moms back in action with Owl House.
Takes me back to when Pokemon was Satan’s gift to children and Harry Potter was the guidebook to hell.

Oh no, not chemicals!

Moral panics are never good.

Not really, not if you take the Christian cosmology that ultimately informs these things in any way seriously. Witches and demons aren't biological races, after all: they're states of being resulting from consciously choosing to embrace rebellion against God. One can no more have a "friendly" or "misunderstood" demon anymore than a friendly or misunderstood child-murderer. 🤔

Worry not... Never said they are, because I know from exposure: never have been, never will be.

These idiots (again, that's all they are.) just need to find something to do that actually helps people for once - something that doesn't incite or encourage fear, to be specific. Excuse me for not being more blunt.

As it is, I'm just waiting for episode 3 to come out soon and hopefully continue seeing this show get better from there, admittedly. Watching fundies try and scare people in comparison isn't (and will never be, unless it's to laugh at their idiocy.) fun; more like just wasteful.

🤔... 🤔... 👿... 😈.
Can't argue with that at all, excuse me if it came off like I was, because that's not my aim here. I have to agree with you wholeheartedly that it makes perfect sense. After all, no one (in fictional media (if it's actually GOOD, anyway.), nor especially IRL.) just chooses to be good/bad without an actual reason behind doing so.

All that aside, I'm just waiting for episode 3 to hopefully entertain me soon - and to see if these fundies are still gonna talk shit just so I can laugh at them like anyone should at someone being an idiot, honestly.

You know, this begs the question- Did anyone ever consider Jesus a wizard because of his described abilities like the whole "water into wine" thing?

I wondered where these people had gone. Glad to see them back in a way.

No, nobody would say that. It's one thing if you're God incarnate and another if you're a human.

But it still strikes me as hypocritical in a way. Like, it's okay if Jesus and God can have supernatural powers, but no one else can with these guys.
There’s a very distinct different between calling on God to perform miracles and drinking ram blood to place a hex on a man. One acknowledges your own humility and need for God to help you, the other places yourself in a position of power and superiority over God and man.

I can understand why some fundies have an issue with the show, it does seem a little over the top with the demonic elements imo, but overall somewhat harmless from what little I’ve seen akin to Harry Potter. Though the demon king thing is a little suspect 🤷‍♀️

but let’s not delve too deep into religious arguments here 😗
