Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Seriously, fuck the Oscars. You should not have to manually introduce people to high quality material in order for something good to inspire future generations rather than have kids be exposed to generic mediocrity and corporate trash.
And the Oscar ratings are down again, I guess it'll be a while before they got a clue.

Well.... This looks cool

Another show I keep meaning to watch. Alas...laziness.

I got to catch up with the show. Looks like these are getting intense
I genuinely recommend Amphibia, it's one of the better shows on right now, funny because when it was first announced I disregarded as yet another slice of life show but once I actually took the time to see it I realized how charming the characters, the world and the writting in general is, the humor is fine too, there were moments that got a chuckle out of me. Mind you, it still has its flaws and it might be a little slow in the beginning but the show knows how to balance it out by having some really nice moments.

Oh I agree. I have seen season 1 and the beginning of season 2. I just have to watch the second half of season 2. I really enjoy the show more than I originally thought I would

Even though it borrows way too much from Coco.
There’s a reason they call it the Pixar formula.
I actually really liked Soul, but the Oscars are dumb regardless.
Yeah I think people are being kinda harsh and hyperbolic over it winning an overrated award show, even if I don’t think it’s a revolutionary film. It’s perfectly reasonable to even like both for different artistic reasons.
And to be clear, I think all current award shows are stupid across the board.

What do people think about the new Pixar trailer?
Looks ok but I haven't watched a Pixar film in a while for obvious quality related reasons.
To be honest it looks like Pixar remade the Little Mermaid but placed the story in Italy, Ariel as two mischievous boys, with a strong independent girl as their sidekick; who's father repeated failed quests in trying to catch them will be overused, I bet. All in all it looks much better than Brave and Inside Out.

As usual the story is unoriginal but it's about time they set it in a country as breathtaking as Italy. Tootsie Bear is right that it looks better than Brave but could be shaping up to be another Brave. All sugar and no substance. Not to mention genderspecials are already hoping this is a gay metaphor and the boys bumfuck which is very creepy but typical of them.

When is there going to be more Long Gone Gulch?
No idea. The creators have been drawing random stuff on their social media and the kickstarter has been radio silent since they hit a million views.

Anybody familiar with superhero cartoon/glorified toy commercial Ben 10?

The original series from 2005 is okay, aside from the writing deteriorating with each successive season. It’s pretty clear they were making things up as they went.

The sequels shows have... issues. For a superhero show that opens with a strong season-long story arc, the continuity is terrible. It retcons key details of its predecessor because the showrunner never actually saw the original, and then goes on to retcon itself several times.

The reboot is able to work with a clean slate, and I like some of the ideas it introduced, but it still makes tons of poor decisions. The animation style is... uh. It turns up the comedy to the most obnoxious degrees and turns the characters into caricatures. It removes key parts of the original mythos such as the Plumbers.

Ben 10 is obviously one of those toy franchises that will need multiple reboots before we finally get to a show with both a coherent continuity and a respect for the brand.
