Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

What an absolute shitshow the Amphibia season finale was. For those who don't know: the finale was programmed for this Saturday but Disney being retarded decided to pull the show for an unknown reason but many think is because they are censoring the episode over a particular scene, how I know? keep reading and the worst part is that they decided that in the same fucking day that the episode was going to air, even the showrunner was taken by surprise. Guess what? the episode leaked thanks that iTunes wasn't informed of this and uploaded the episode which was good for the most part despite the obvious pacing issues so now the fans are pissed, the creator is pissed, the crew is pissed, hell even people for other channels and shows are pissed and to add to that currently the unofficial version is that the finale will air 3 WEEKS from now like everyone and its mother wouldn't have watched the spoilers by now.

Oooooh, that sucks entire ass. It's funny to have a studio shitshow and not an in-show shitshow for once. I don't watch this cartoon (heard it was much better than Owl House) so I wonder what marketing cronie told them to pull this jackass move thinking it'd be good? At least it was only one episode and not scrapping the entire show.

What was the supposed censored scene? Bear in mind that I haven't seen the episode yet.

I was so piss off. I was prepared for the season finale yesterday. I'm happy I'm not the only one

From what I read on the disney channel wiki page they did it because they didn't want it to take away the attention of their halfway to Halloween mouth and the shitty under wraps remake (which they act like is a orginal movie and not a remake). Seriously this is the scummish thing disney channel could do to fans.
Holy shit that's dark for a children's show not even gravity falls did that!!!!!

Watching Invincible right now, on episode 4 still bur so far I like, it has the right amount of edge and the characters are mildly interesting. I like that they don't try to force humor that much and instead concentrate in the plot.

The creator already unconfirmed this, which puts more emphasys on the fact that it will be likely censored in the tv version. I also heard that they tried to pull a fast one on the execs to sneak the scene but they weren't happy at all.

Invincible can feel 'realistic' and gritty but it keeps the core of light-hearted super-hero media. Few people are outright villains, and those that are get acknowledged as crazy assholes. It makes the actual horrible moments and people have impact. The heroes are flawed but most of their mistakes come from trying to do the right thing, their duty, or what they think is necessary.

Also, it's got some of the most savage fights in the medium ever. That was barely a taste with newbie Viltrumite Mark. Kirkman is on board with the animation and he is fucking killing it with most of the changes.
Started watching it today, from someone mostly coming over from anime the 40 minute episode runtime seriously threw me off. Felt like it was taking forever to crawl through the first two episodes.

Fortunately, it definitely feels like the rest of the story will move very quickly once the setup exposition is done. I had seen the Omni-man vs. fake Justice League fight as a clip but I was expecting it to be something that happened halfway through the season, not at the end of the first fucking episode. Definitely interested to keep watching especially since you’ve said it picks up after the first couple eps.

Can confirm that episode 3 is basically the turning point.

The story gets pretty good, with the exception of Robot's subplot which I just couldn't make myself care about. The finale more than makes up for it though. And credit to the writers for giving us a better
Batman v Superman than Zack Snyder.
. Also Omni-Man looking and sounding exactly like Jonah Jameson makes his lines hilarious.

The Mauler brothers were worth it.

Did you at least see how the comic ends? Pretty damn good.
I honestly hope no one reads ahead. Kirkman seems like he's going to do everything better. Fuck me, next season alone is guaranteed to be amazing without foreknowledge now all the setup is finished.

Best we can hope for, knowing how this goes, is the pacing is fixed and some certain special things are changed. I have faith in Kirkman: Invincible is his first born success after all and he hated what TWD's adaption turned into.

Just finished a full watch of Invincible with the boys and between the hideous 3D animation in the background, massive drop in CG/animation quality , the amazing QUALITY faces and keeping an active INTERRACIAL COUPLE COUNTER (we lost track but it was atleast 20+ over only 6 episodes) we were in tears the whole time
If the show wasn't done on a shoestring budget then all the rest of the budget was embezzled.

Omniman is too based to be contained by the boundaries of the universe and I will always remember:
Watching omni-man grab the back of the skull of some guy his son just saved and crush it directly into his sons face, followed immediately by him using his son to penetrate a heavily occupied subway train front to back, killing everyone

10/10 grab a drink with friends and enjoy it Mystery Science Theatre style and you will enjoy the severe downs as well as the ups.

Just got up to the Robot plot, and it’s funny how it’s literally beat-for-beat identical to Mechamaru from Jujutsu Kaisen.
- Is a robot with a super on-the-nose name? Check.
- Is actually a horribly crippled human piloting drone bodies? Check.
- Primarily motivated by love that he can’t have in his current form? Check.
- Working behind the scenes with the bad guys to build himself a new body? Check.
- Builds himself a giant fucking mech suit as a contingency plan? Check.
At this point all he needs to do is immediately die to complete the comparisons.
Makes me wonder if said character was explicitly inspired by Robot or if it’s just a coincidence.

Invincible has 15 years on JK. It's possible, westaboos exist. Not really a unique plot line either.

Part of me is wondering if it was being animated during 2020, when animation was getting affected by people working from home or running out of resources. I mean anime either had to postpone certain titles until later or outsource heavily to get their episodes done (or both). So I wonder if that's part of the reason why the show went downhill visually (though the CGI always sucked),

The other part I assume the animation looks bad is because the voice cast.

I think it's funny that nobody besides Rex seems concerned about
A grown man putting himself in the clone body of a little boy version of his teammate so he can bang a woman who's physically a little girl.
Like at minimum, that is not the guy you want in charge of your Justice League knockoff.

Several known names (mostly people at Disney TVA) took to Twitter to air their sentiments about the situation. Proudly subbed to spanish.

TL; DR:
- Owen Dennis starts a mega-thread talking about the standards of the industry today, which have not really changed since the 90s. Despite animation reaching its cultural peak, the studios still expect animators to tolerate senseless deadlines.
- The crews are offended that they rarely receive the same amount of respect they have to give to the studios and are expected to just stand it.
- Animators are becoming more well known than ever and as such people can reach them to make their opinions heard. That doesn't apply to executives, who can get away with anything.
- Animators get hired for their following counts and are expected to give free publicity to their projects.
- It is advised that you make your properties into comics first so you have leverage about how the IP is used.
