A bit of misnomer; unless a show is an international co-production, “funding” from other countries just amounts to ad space and scheduling. Similar net effect but not exactly what people talk about.
Could something similar have happened to Owl House. Possibly, and the other theories put forth as just as possible. As cartoons from the 2010s have shown, online talk does not translate into tangible success; it could have been something as ridiculously simple as “not enough kids are watching it”.

I dead ass thought this was supposed to be Owl House in the style of She Ra/Voltron before I clicked the link. And Jimmy is black washed yet again.
This all looks worse when you look at the Batman cartoon for comparison. Why does Supes always get the short end of the stick?

“Not enough kids are watching it” is a pretty big one, I’d assume. With so many other options, do kids nowadays even WATCH cartoons on TV anymore?

Because he's very weaksauce character-wise and it looks like a character driven thing.

He does look fucking adorable in that art style though,

Even setting aside the comics, Superman: TAS shows that it is possible to pull off a character driven Superman story with a good title character. Maybe this will end up being better than it looks but god what I wouldn’t give to have that Superman Family pitch instead.

From what I’ve gathered, they seem to watch YouTube videos and play video games. Kind of a chicken or the egg situation; do kids not watch cartoons because there’s nothing good on or is there nothing good on because kids don’t watch cartoons?

It's possible. He has a lot of villains to work with and his job requires some digging, though journalism isn't what it used to be. My favorite moments with Supes is just him being there for other people. Just not a lot you can do with an earnest character who can do most of everything.

In this case, I’d probably say #2. Waiting for something to air on TV has been completely obsoleted by streaming, if that’s your primary mode of content delivery (especially for a story-driven show) and there’s no easy and legal way to re-watch old episodes, then no fucking shit kids would rather watch Youtubers, play video games and watch Youtubers play video games.

Now the second party is a pretty legitimate criticism and some writers do take pains to nerf him (sometimes to the next extreme).
But in an era where cynical takes on the genre like Jupiter’s Legacy and The Boys have become popular and the evil Superman trope is done to death, a more earnest character might have some untapped storytelling potential.
Though really, being an honest journalist who’s good at his job is probably the biggest tough sell of his character.

Eh, Invincible did it best. Homelander just seems like a damaged asshole than evil. I watched Jupiter's Legacy, and Utopian is more a Superman out of his depth than anything else. Brandon hasn't been made to fit the bill like I heard he does in the comics.

Gods and Monsters Super Hombre was just an authoritarian who killed when he felt it necessary. Really wish we got more of that alternate universe as a whole.
